    I think the creator of this television show never for a second really believed Truman could escape this illusory world if he really wanted to, but he had to justify to the audience what he was doing and that's why he said that without believing it himself, while he was always ready to kill Truman rather than let him escape, as you saw later in the movie.

      @@loganshaw4527You know, this movie doesn't need a sequel at all but I was thinking to myself one day if someone were to make a sequel to The Truman Show that's exactly what it should be about. The company trying to make another show with another newborn baby without it's knowledge, and the same thing happening to that person but Truman finds out about it and tries to warn the person when he or she grows up that his or her entire life has been a tv show.

    • @SebastienGendron-uk4po
      @SebastienGendron-uk4po ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@cavaughngrace1488 That sequel idea could work, but the new Truman would never figure it out since the crew behind the scenes would take extra precautions. By the time old Truman finds out it would be too late, the new Truman would have grown into an elderly man that's content with his ''life'', now new Truman is conflicted about telling him the truth because the revelation would have shattered him. The movie stands on its own, and I don't blame people for not liking a sequel but switching to a new Truman and having the old one noticing and going ''oh h*ll no, not again'' and start pressing legal charges.

    I had to analize this movie in my English class, and one of the many things I found interesting is that trueman is not the only person trapped in the world, other people who are also trapped is truemans wife and best friend and even the creator is trapped himself. and once trueman finally gets out they are free to leave as well. which makes me think that after a few years they started to belive in the reality as well so they can cope with always being there. even if they knew the truth they had to lie to themselves to be okay with living in the doom.

    • @ronfehr7899
      @ronfehr7899 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      But we're they really trapped? When they weren't involved directly with what Truman was doing, they didn't necessarily have to be on set.
      Marlon and Meryl were probably exceptions though, trapped, like you said. Even so, both characters didn't start out there. They had separate lives prior to joining the cast.
      Although Truman had known Marlon for a long time, I'm pretty sure it wasn't always the same actor. Remember him talking to Truman about him being sick and having to miss school for over a month? My guess is that was when the actors changed.

      But HOW controlled was the media in the world. He doesn't need to have "television show" explained to him, so he appears to know the concept and thus has watched tv, movies...... He has access to a whole slew of different types of magazines. That many magazines with that many different models, who definitely aren't from that town. It would be crazy to create them all just for this world. So they likely use tv, movies and magazines that exist in the real world existing in this one. They have to comb them for birds and make sure that none appear in any panels? And then you approve all these magazines and then issue number 45 has a bird in it. So issues 1 through 44 have all been at that stand, but then issue 45 never exists in this world? You can watch all the episodes of a show until a bird happens to be in one scene, and suddenly there is a gap in episodes. They use "Fiji" as a place that exists, and a map in his school is exactly like the real world map, Did they produce ALL the text books he ever learned from in all his classes, and all the books in the library, or did they bring in books that already existed, which would obviously have various birds in them.

    So there's a couple of other movies that came out around that same time that you might want to check out, but just for context, they came out right when reality TV first started become a big thing in the culture. Not like some form of it, or similar documentary/cinéma vérité hadn't already existed for decades, but at that time is when it became such a regular and popular thing in television, which has probably just always existed and been normal to you, but at that time was new and was a topic of conversation in the culture. So, after "The Truman Show", there was "EdTV", which was more of a straightforward comedy about a regular guy doing a reality show. It doesn't have a lot of the same elements, and isn't as good, but it's still a fun movie that's worth watching for more of an easier watch and a laugh. The other one came out around the same time, and isn't reality TV related, but "Pleasantville" is about a teenager brother and sister that are magically transported into the world of an old 50s/60s sitcom. So they know it's not real, but everybody else inside that world only know that as the only reality they've ever known, don't know there's anything else, and think it's real. It has kind of a different social and political commentary than "The Truman Show", but it's much better than how I probably just made it sound, and you should definitely check it out.

    1) Since they control the waves/wind flow, and Truman's boat is windsailing, they could've do it to make him go around.
    2) In that exit dark room, security dudes disguised could've trap/kidnap/drugged him so he would wake up un the hospital with his dad, and a new cooked up story. So when he wakes up, they can expect Truman to be properly gaslighted...again.
    3) Many people actually forget the 1st 2 minutes of the movie, the first time watching.

    When I first saw this film I took it to be an allegory of spiritual awakening (still do).
    In a nutshell, we come into the world and our training' (brainwashing) into the 'normal life' starts immediately. We're supposed to do what others do - get an education, get a job, marry and have children. Our lives become a series of repetitions without question. But sometimes 'reality' pokes through the facade (synchronicity, deja vu,, a peak experience, spiritual teachings, etc.) and we start to question things. The beginning of awakening is when we realize we have more control of our lives and the 'external world' than we thought (symbolized when Truman stops traffic by holding up his hands). We start questioning, investigating, and testing reality. Finally to escape from our self-imposed prison we have to be willing to give up everything we've been conditioned to value - safety, comfort, etc. and overcome fear. To take the final step into the true reality we have to be willing to give up our very lives. The final scene has several references to Christ - the apparent walking on water, the ascension up the steps, and Truman's final pose before he leaves for the next level (true reality): a crucifixion pose with arms straight out to the sides. I always suspected they chose the name Truman' because it shows the path to becoming a "True Man" (fully human). There are many other parallels and clues in the details including Gnostic references (the fallen star 'Sirius, Christof as the demiurge and Silvia as Sophia) , but you get the picture. Given an interview I saw a few years back with Carey talking about his own spiritual path and beliefs I'm pretty certain he sees the film that way too.

    A lot of people like to give Marlon a free pass in the whole deal, but he was a child actor ,just like any kid hired for a TV show. He knew it was all fake, his getting fed lines, giving the fake tears while spouting them to Truman. He did what he did for the production. Marlon was just as much trash like the rest of them,his wife, his mom.. he betrayed Truman on so many ways, this shows how people in general are a poor judge of character in life,why people have toxic friends,toxic relationships and stay in them,they want to turn a blind eye to misdeeds and betrayal of a relationship for those little fleeting 'good times".

    They audience is happy because we are the audience. You're watching the movie, aren't you? You were happy when Truman finally got to leave, right? And you, the audience, were happy to see Truman finally leave. Because they live in the Truman show, too. They haven't learned how to escape, even when you sitting there watching a movie explicitly about escaping the hollywood machine, you still just go "well, what else is on."

    We can't blame the "creator" or even corporations for what they did with Truman's life. I mean it's disgusting but I would say those ordinary people who watched the show are the ones to blame. When the show came to the end people only were concerned if there was something else they could consume and waste time on.
    And sadly in real life we are no different. People like to pretend that they care or think that they are emphatic. This movie also tells us a bit about human nature, not necessarily a nice thing and to be proud of.

    Love this story and Jim Carrey in a serious role (with some funny moments)
    Technically the "studio" made alot of mistakes. The light falling first and the rain not starting at the same time would clue anyone into the fact that something isnt right. Had they avoided that, no telling how long he would have been blissfully unaware. He wanted adventure, so much so that he told his friend and "wife" they should go to fiji. Had they just knocked him out, made another studio be his "fiji", and then travel back, he would have gone more years on the show. They tried to do that later on, but by then he was paranoid and didnt trust anyone. He didnt even love his "wife", but he thought she was innocent like him at the start.
