This is a major frustration. All of these locations, DCNR are of different sizes, and the ones which the largest legal width limit are Whiskey Springs and Bloody Skillet...I love all of them, but with a Honda Talon 1000R or other large ride, you're legally out of luck. I know some have bollard or obstacles to keep larger units out. There was some online chatter I read about that they were going to use some of the grants to make some trails available to wider units. I know everyone in PA pays into the fees, but with environmental concerns and the watershed considerations, its unknown when these changes may happen. I can reference an 2020 report, but if you search, maybe you can find more about the future of wider units being permitted: From: www.dcnr.pa.gov/Recreation/WhatToDo/ATVRiding/Pages/default.aspx Use of UTVs and SXSs on state forest lands: 35 comments expressed support or questioned whether larger vehicles such as Utility Task Vehicles (UTVs) and Side by Sides (SXSs) would be permitted on ATV trails and/or state forest roads. A few comments recommended increasing the width of trails to allow for these larger vehicles. RESPONSE: These newer classes of machines are clearly central to the future of motorized recreation in Pennsylvania. Since the great recession, the sale of multi-passenger machines has eclipsed sales of single-rider units for which the established system of state forest ATV trails were established to serve. In addition to designing any new connectors to accommodate these larger machines, it is also our intention to evaluate and upgrade existing trail systems to be sustainable for use by these machines. The Department will determine appropriate width and weight limitations for designated trails (not to exceed 64 inches and 1800 pounds)
SXS's and UTV are infinitely safer than ATVs with their roll cages and seat restrains - this should be of major concern/consideration to DCNR..@@TheBeatenTrail
I agree. Let's hope they make some improvements on the limitations. The ATV Regional Connector trail is also a good addition in the right direction for PA ATV/UTVs
Any plans you know of to make them more friendly to wider SXS - up to maybe 65"?
