Amazing! Back in 2000, I once glitched by mistake Roast to Ryu. It became a weapon with unlimited Roast and normal attack hits every enemy in the battle. I used Cheat O'matic to change HEX values.
Yeah for whatever reason when the glitch is done the item becomes a weapon in a sense. The item doesn't get consumed when used in battle. However, the glitched weapon can't be equiped back onto the person. Using a hex editor, if you make the gold piece a weapon for Ryu (or I guess anyone) but the gold piece attacks all enemies (auto bow effect) AND twin attacks! Hits all enemies 2x! It also has a higher attack power (above the 64 of these weapons) I found some connections to how the game is reading the items as a weapon - kwhazit.ucoz.net/trans/BoF2/item.html towards the bottom of the page you will find flags for items (regardless if consumable or weapon/armor). on Byte 12 if bit 5 is on then hit multiple targets. Bit 0 and 1 are for holy and fire. byte 14 - (other items are always either x40 or x00) ho hex = 64 decimal so that might be where the 64 attack power comes from byte 15 mentions autobow and twin attack ------ Bottom line. The game is reading the data for the item as a "weapon" so whatever field the game would look at for the weapons properties, its just reading that data from the item. Which for one reason or another they have different values. Like the van ext and moondrop hits all allies, which might be why they have twin attack - byte 12 bit 6 = target allies (this is what those items are doing) byte 15 - bit 6 = twin bow. I'm not sure of the exact fields but the glitch makes more sense to me from seeing some connections to that webpage
I know I'm late to the party, but this is just amazing. I tried experimenting a bit myself with it. Apparently the "worm" or whatever item you use to do this glitch can never be used to perform the money glitch again. Even if you sell it and buy it fresh, it won't find the NatureWP anymore, and only gives you the value of the item that you used. Also, it doesn't have to be done with Ryu. It can be done with anyone, so long as their party position corresponds to the reserve party slot you want to alter. Last also, You don't have to select a weapon from the armory to perform this glitch. You can select an armor piece, and it will still work. I know because I tried to get Nina to have all of her equipment turn into items, and when I did the Joker battle, she only had an updated weapon.
TY for the information, just did the switch glitch on the Nintendo Switch version. Did it after building the hometown, went to an armor shop and did the Uni equipment. I just adjusted the party that's available at this time, using Ryu in slot 1; to modify the character in slot 5 which is the only member who's not active at that moment in the game.
awesome job! Just make sure to save the game. Sometimes they point to values (items that are invalid) and the game can softlock. This mostly happens late game (like after getting Bleu and a bit after that. Can happen to Katt when she can do it for the first time.
Sure thing, constantly doing 4 save states every time I play. Currently at the quest to make the queen lose weight. I'm following your speedrun at RPGLimit. Don't really speed run myself; but it gives me the opportunity to know where to go.
@@ObiJuanKenob Fun glitch even for casual. Can speed the game up and not rely on dragon spam or other spells. It's also nice in a way that it starts to wear off for some of the lower str characters so certainly doesn't break the game (also infinite ae healing!)
I had a feeling it could be done this way. But it is nice to do before you get them too since you generally have a boss fight to do when they join the party.
Can use in the start the game the thornWP with ryu character, has insta kill damage and of course, works in the SNES switch version (the game has lots changes in texts)
Doing the money glitch is easy enough, but for the life of me I can't do the "equip item" part, even though I can indeed increase how many worms I have
At 2:43 in the video you can see me saying "yes" to turning in the "treepole" which represented "item 01" That was the moment that it changed the item for the reserved character. Alternatively you can just have a stack of "6xworms" and when you turn in that you will get item 6 (the moondrop) on the reserved character. item 4 and 6 are the best (van ext) or (moondrop) Both have 64 attack power, holy element and twin attack. The other 7 weapons have 64 attack power, fire element and attack once

Ryu in slot 1 will change Nina at the start of the game. After you get Nina and get to WIndia. Ryu in 1 will change Rand (5), Ryu in 2 will change Bow (6) Ryu in 3 will change Jean (7) and Ryu in 4 will change Spar (8). After Terapin, choose all characters except for Katt. Go to Coirsair and do it from slot 1 (but beware! -- if it is a mirror the game will softlock) so save the game before doing this. If this happens I dont know a backup. I would suggest trying later on like when you get Bleu. Once you get Bleu to join -> say "yes to rearrange party put everyone into the party EXCEPT for Bleu. WIll will then be in the (5th spot) so Ryu can change it by being in slot 1. Now for changing it for characters now or at anytime during the game not mentioned above. When at a dragon statue, the 3 characters you pick will be slots 1-4 (plus Ryu. The remaining characters, starting from the top will become 5, 6, 7, 8, 9. Be sure to SAVE your game. You can put Ryu in slot 1 and get Nina the weapon now (or do it at coirsair Nina's is done when we arrive at coirsair for the first time and Ryu is by himself. (slot 1) We get Rand's when we first get to Windia from doing the glitch with Ryu in slot 1. At this point we can also put Ryu in slot 2, 3, and 4 to get the herb weapon for Jean, Bow, and Spar. For Katt, after the Terrapin fight and once we progress the story after talking to Ray at Township. Put Nina, Sten and Rand in your party. Have Ryu in slot 1 and do the glitch at Coirsair to get Katt's. Bleu when she joins say "yes" but put everyone EXCEPT her into the party and do the glitch in slot 1. She gets pushed into slot 5.
I just got Bow back in my party and I went to equip a weapon on him and he has the Herb equipped, I have no idea how I did this. I’m guessing I botched the shop glitch since I tried it much later in the game, but uhhh…huh. It says his offense is 99 with it, not sure if that’s accurate. He is doing decent damage for lvl 8 though. I just don’t know if I should leave it or not!
Sorry for the late reply. Once you unequip it you can't reequip it. weapon is 64 attack power so + any other offense items and his str to get you offense. If you do the glitch when you first get to Windia you will reference the naturewp (slot 1) and can get a bunch of money then. If Ryu is in slot 2 he will reference Bow (can put glitch weapon on him) 3 is jean and 4 is spar at this point in the game
