This was truly a special W&P. It had two W&P tropes that we haven't seen in a while, the absurd game that leaves you speechless throughout, and the quirky, charming game that's actually kinda good. But of course, we got to wrap up with the classic asset flip that would have been overpriced if it was free.
I originally caught this on the Twitch Vod, but I had to comment on here because I had such a strong reaction to this that I needed to come here and appease the algorithm gods. At 13:00 Alex opens the door to be surprised by a new enemy, and I cannot describe how VIVIDLY the memory of that EXACT moment was unearthed from the deep dark corners of my mind from when I played the original as a child. I very distinctly remember it being that enemy too. I doubt anyone else had the same moment, but I had to share because it was an absolutely WILD experience. This was a fantastic episode.
This might be the most twisted Watch + Play I've seen in a while. First: An HD REMAKE of a game we've seen here before... and they're both good! (For given values of good, but given what most games on Watch + Play cost vs. what you get... yeah, I stand by that good statement) Second: One of the most surreal Watch + Play games I've seen since Tomato Way. Tomato Way still has the crown, and you could argue there were a couple of others that would still place between them, but Beautycopter was up there. Third: And finally a game that manages to be, as Alex so eloquently put it, the NEXT LEVEL OF ASSET FLIP! How the heck was that even possible? But they did it, they actually did it. I mean, wow. What a lineup. I'm not going to say something stupid like "I don't know how they're going to top this" but believe me, even after so many years of Watch + Play showing it's always possible, I'm tempted.
Cleavon Little absolutely was corpsing in that scene. Gene Wilder ad libbed the "You know, morons" line, and Mel Brooks loved the spontaneity and Little's genuine laughter so he left it in.
I think the "that's what I call a sticky key" line was a mis-delivered pun referencing that thing that happens on Windows when you hold down shift for the first time.
Beautycopter gave me flashbacks to dropping acid before going to see whatever nonsense my friend's drama class was putting on when I was at uni in the 90s.
I am continuously surprised by LRRs ability to summon things from my childhood I thought were more obscure than they apparently are. The first time I tuned into Brave New Faves they had Race for your Life Charlie Brown running on mute, they've played Chex Quest twice now, and they watched Abott and Costello's Jack and the Beanstalk for the live vibe thing.
I watched the Buzz Lightyear movie this christmas. I had zero expectations but honestly really enjoyed it. It was surprisingly poignant at moments and had character growth and stuff. Way better than i ever expected
The problem with the "marry a wall" strategy is that it only works if you enter through the exterior wall of a maze and, with no intermediary steps, are leaving through another exterior wall of the maze (and there are no moving parts but lets assume that was a given). This doesn't work if you have to reach specific parts in the middle of the maze such as the exit being a set of stairs not attached to an exterior wall or, more relevantly, you have to collect one or more objects scattered within the maze. Not that marrying a wall can't work in these circumstances but it's not a garantee. Also, a big point of failure even in prime marry-a-wall conditions is getting engaged after wandering aimlessly.
Beautycopter isn't exactly a "bad game" it's just from a genre that I call "LSD games" because they make barely any sense and feel like you're on an LSD trip. But they've got a vehement following who really love them, so I accept that my opinion of them isn't all encompassing and just respect what they are. Weird little diverts from sanity.
Beautycopter seemed like a genuinely good game to me. Its clearly doing something weird but it was good about telling them what to do, and just seemed good in general.
I remember playing the original Chex Quest as a kid. It's extra memorable for being the only game to give me motion sickness, which at first I thought was just from the house being painted... but no. 😒
I think the thing with the Lightyear movie, is they already had a good setup for Buzz, and a movie/cartoon Andy could've watched The old cartoon movie and series, with alien crew But for some reason that entire thing got swept away
The mobile games were very fun to watch, don't get me wrong, but going back to Steam garbage for W&P just feels _right,_ you know? Like the break from them made me appreciate this stuff more compared to the tween'd PNGs we get in mobile games.
small correction the sherlock holmes game didn't have pathing watson just teleports while your not looking at him like some sort of weeping angel cause I guess creating ai pathing was too much effort for them and they hope no one would notice

Thanks for featuring my game!
the way Beautycopter made them spechless is fantastic
Alex's face throughout
It is so rare to have both of them stunned into silence

52:17 "I grill with the strength of 10 dads" is honestly a banger line

beautycopter has impeccable vibes
after watching them play for just 2 minutes i bought it, so excited to play!!!

Excellent, as always. Thank you.
Thrilled to see the Chex Quest remake come up.
1:02:44 Giggling hysterically at the scene change & their reactions, halp
What an amazing watch and play. Everything here was perfect, such a nice mix, and nothing over stayed its welcome.
Beautycopter gave me flashbacks to dropping acid before going to see whatever nonsense my friend's drama class was putting on when I was at uni in the 90s.
Can confirm, Burquitlam is basically a Skytrain station and the immediate are around it.
Making a sci-fi feature set there is....
Prayers to Todd

I love when these drops! :D Quality content!

There's a missing timestamp/chapter, 1:46:45 The Maze.
whoops. Thank you! I've added that in.

loved the fully five minutes of stunned silence at the start of beauty copter xD
edit: they topped it with alex's reaction to the maze
2:19 Snack life...such as Bugsnax?

I love that Frog Fractions was mentioned during Chex Quest but could almost definitely have a secret home in Beautycopter.

Beautycopter is profoundly bizarre
I love "Other Fred Jr" so much but I also want to call out Fredilina, a lovely name for a baby girl.
Beautycopter seemed like a genuinely good game to me. Its clearly doing something weird but it was good about telling them what to do, and just seemed good in general.
Richter Hammockslam needs to cover a fashion show in Nsburg from a Beautyqwopter.

Chex Quest was LITERALLY Doom. Hackers checking the files on the original disks found leftover levels from Ultimate Doom along with other relics.
Until the new season of QWRPLINE comes out, Watch + Play is a good substitute for strong G-Money and A-Train vibes
HD Remaster of Chex Quest makes me unreasonably happy. I am almost embarrassed by how hard I laughed at the General Mills joke.
As an Australian id like to apologise for this mans entire existence
Beautycopter may be the closest I've been to Disassociating from a video game
I lost it at "you may call me FFFFFFFF."
I hope we get to see Chex Quest 2 and 3. Or maybe the versus mode from HD.
Beautycopter is the -3rd wonder of the world
I'm so happy that 90's television's Super Fighting Robot Mega Man's Dr. Wily could find work, so far after his prime. 2:52
With the main character's voice on Chex being so quiet, I feel like I need to download the game and play it myself.
Ah, well, it's free.

The old cartoon movie and series, with alien crew

47:35 I hate that I had the exact same thought as Alex, damn you internet brain rot

1:54:44 Alex auditions for a Korn cover band as the lead vocalist.

Does Graham still take suggestions for W+P? What's the best way to sumbit suggestions?
yeah theres an email
It would be great if you got your hands on a bunch of old Game & Watch stuff so then it would be Game & Watch & Play
MOERE HELL YEAEY
The only way Chex Mix could have been better is if General Mills had got an early copy of Unreal 5
It would've been even better if the chex quest remaster was on the new doom engine, and included glory kills
TEETH, TEETH, TEETH
I wonder if there are any athiests in Fogshole.
Lydia Tär.. Maze Runner.
THIS is weird? When are you going to play one of the early 2000s (late 90s?) Burger King or KFC games?
This game is the platonic ideal of corporate sellout.
a classic watch and play, one good game, one existentially baffling games and two utter dogshit 'games'.
This is why you get the short keyboard with a numpad, not the short keyboard with arrow keys.
Re Beautycopter: D:
I'm not a fan of "reaction videos" but the genuinely puzzled expressions during Beautycopter...
And I'm quite grateful that I will never, ever have to play it.
it's $4.99 on Switch? For reals?
