I bought this and I’m well chuffed! Been looking to buy an old GB for a few months and now I have one which I can be confident should be good for years! Cheers Elliot!
Some of the best 50 USD I've ever spent was on a bulk lot of nintendo products. The games were much to write home about: two gba video carts, batman for gb, and the non-gold ocarina of time, but the consoles? There was a DMG, AGS 101, and an N64 with cables and three original controllers. I'm convinced that I'll never be that lucky again
This is just me, but it's quite interesting that despite having those his whole life, those pieces of history were sold at an affordable price. Quite cool!
I actually did that with my saturn collection recently. I've got so much retro clutter I've decided to down size to just game systems with everdrives or their like. I was pretty emotional splitting ways with it but its one of those things where the memories will never go away and those moments can never be recreated regardless if you have the hardware and the game. That being said playing on real hardware versus emulation is night and day.
@@TheRetroFutureI definitely missed this style of video, with the relaxing music in the background. Please fix a few more handhelds this year, maybe even branch into some other handheld projects? I'd love to watch Retro Future fix up a crusty old PSP or Vita or something.
Crazy to think that one of your videos randomly came on one day a year ago and I've been following your channel ever since. Relaxing as hell watcing you dismantle, repair, reconstruct, and clean everything.
Dude. I love you channel, been watching all your videos. You got me into soldering and restoring old games! I have fixed japanese pokemon games, recently bought english versions and fixed the ROM chip on those since the did not read right. THANK YOU for what you do.
You make me wanna take apart Gameboys and clean them 😅 😂 and replace the batteries on my old Pokemon games. I have never soldered before so I'm a bit intimidated.
Dude. You're awesome. I always used to rip stuff apart and test it out similar to what you did. It's cool to actually see someone else actually put everything back together that knows what they're doing.
For some reason I was hearing it like a LA film noir tone: The dark night was draped in shadows, a murky Thursday evening when I sauntered through the market, hunting for a bargain. Sipping on a smooth wine snagged from a sidewalk peddler, I prowled the streets when out of nowhere, this listing slammed into me like the Titanic hitting that icy abyss on its fateful final voyage
If you notice the switch and pot feel very loose after cleaning with iso, this is because it's dissolved the dielectric grease used to lubricate them. Contact cleaner is more appropriate for this purpose.
That makes me remember that this month while I was buying my groceries at a flea market, right there in a small blanket there was a Gameboy Advance SP 101 that wasn't turning on, the seller was asking for $10.000 Chilean pesos or $12-13 USD most likely I was trying to not to lose my cool when I was learning about the price and without any hesitation I bought. At first the console was flickering after 1 hour of charging, but after another hour, the console turned on, I was freaking out since it was working, not only the console was working, the whole two lights were also in perfect conditions. Definitely the best deal of my life in 2023.
Friend's sister"s driving instructor's dad's brother's toothbrush... I don't know why, but the farther the connection's get, the grosser the brush gets! XD
I'm old so at least the oracle games are relatively "new" for me, so I still have mine in mint condition. Never had LA DX but I still have the original from my childhood. Sadly, the colors of the lable on that one suffered a bit over time.
I snagged a clear GBP with a random pirate multicart for a tenner on FB a couple of years ago, even had the manual and the clear plastic presentation case. Couldn't believe it and the guy was 2 streets away as well.
The time i was lucky i bought a gameboy dmg, 9 games with final fantasy and some other good ones. It also came with a carrying case. What I didn’t knew was that the seller also gave me all the booklets of the games and 2 old little handhelds including a game&watch for free! Bought all of this just for €25!!!
Maybe this isn't too well known, but the rom chip actually shares the 4 digit release code printed on the cover. Basically there is no need to turn the game on to match up the case with the circuit board.
I sold my PS3 a few years ago, which I got brand new the first week it came out before you could even buy controllers or games for it. Played only the PS2 versions of FFXI and MVP Baseball 2005 the first month I had it. The 60GB backwards compatible model (with an upgraded HDD) which I used as my main computer running Yellow Dog linux through grad school. Came with the first party carrying bag and the remote control. Had a game recap saved of an MLB The Show game I came back to win down 7-0 in the 9th inning. Lots of memories, excellent shape. I got $100 for it all. Only thing I kept was the PS2 memory card adapter.
HEY! That's super interesting... The Switch Pro Controller D-Pad is bad, mainly because the contacts are super wide. The solution is to put tape on the interior half of them... The GameBoy Color's contacts for the d-pad have solder mask applied on them from the factory? Nintendo knew how to avoid the Switch Pro Controller issue and they still messed up...
Man, I need a copy of Link's Awakening DX. I've been buying Gameboy/Color/Advance games lately, got my hands on the Oracle games. Loving going through Seasons again.
My 2 best deals were a red GBA SP and the 4 Mario Advance games for $25 on eBay and a regular GameBoy Advance with Link's Awakening, Super Mario Land, Tetris, Solar Striker and a few other games i cant remember for $30 on the local market place
Im glad to have all 3 of those games in great condition, i even have both version of links awakening, the original and dx, the original being the European version
I bought this and I’m well chuffed! Been looking to buy an old GB for a few months and now I have one which I can be confident should be good for years!
Cheers Elliot!
awesome purchase. how much was your bid?
Ooh congrats, how much was the winning bid if you don't mind me asking?
@5:00 that gameboy had 20 years of love. Glad It got refreshed and ready for 20 more years. Good job.
Oh, maybe don't rub the button contacts too much, you risk taking off more of the carbon than needed. A single swipe or 2 should be enough
Apreciate this video bro, some much needed relaxation was endured after a long many days of travel.
I am glad you enjoyed!

I agree, I still have my original gameboy and games and could never sell them, just playing it brings back soon many memories
Won't be able to pry mine from my cold dead hands! My OG Gameboy is priceless to me.
Same, I'd still have mine if my brother didn't take it from me and give it away to a friend of his
The guy probably knew what he had, an old gameboy with some sticking buttons and games that were drying up, so priced it accordingly.
I actually did that with my saturn collection recently. I've got so much retro clutter I've decided to down size to just game systems with everdrives or their like. "The three best Zelda games ever, I might add."
Subscribed as soon as I heard that. Good taste!
Watching this was so satisfying. Great work not just on the project but the video quality of capturing the process.
I love this channel. Proper relaxes me
What a wonderfully classic TRF style video to finish the year off, Happy New Year Elliot and everyone, may 2024 be a great year for you :)

Your friend’s sister’s driving instructor’s dad’s brother’s toothbrush really gets the job done 😂
Such a chill video. I could watch an hour of you cleaning Gameboy games and systems.
That toothbrush part caught me off guard
Same
always a part of your kit when you do soldering
Crazy to think that one of your videos randomly came on one day a year ago and I've been following your channel ever since. Relaxing as hell watcing you dismantle, repair, reconstruct, and clean everything.
thank you so much for sticking around and enjoying. I hope you enjoy what else i make this year. I have some really exciting projects coming up!
For all the use and years, even though it is dirty, the original owner did take care of it pretty well it seems!
I recently bought a Gameboy colour and Pokemon blue, it's my first Gameboy. I'm so excited for it to arrive, love your content ❤ Happy new year 🎊
what did you think of it?
@ amazing game 10/10!!!

Dude. I love you channel, been watching all your videos. You got me into soldering and restoring old games! I have fixed japanese pokemon games, recently bought english versions and fixed the ROM chip on those since the did not read right. THANK YOU for what you do.
Absolutely love watching you give old games a new life! You’ve inspired me to start a gameboy collection of my own haha. Keep up the great work man! 💕
I'm instantly sold on the gb operator
it’s so sick right
I was so happy to see you backed up the save files and loaded them back on the games. Glad the original owners save data will live on with the games
So cool that it is actioned for charity. The best wishes for 2024 for you too Elliot!
The gb epilogue has been fantastic for je as well. Managed to get a nice collection saved
You make me wanna take apart Gameboys and clean them 😅 😂 and replace the batteries on my old Pokemon games. I have never soldered before so I'm a bit intimidated.
The clean up vids are my favourites! Happy new year Elliot
Happy new year!

The music gave this video a fire side chat vibe, and it's appreciated.
these videos are like therapy
Love that you added the music here, so cozy.
Beautiful video, great content and enjoyable to watch - well done Elliot yet again! R

What a find... absolutely love the classic TRF vibr of this video. So relaxing. Thanks as always man. You rock!
Great video and I continue to enjoy your sense of humor and sarcasm.
At last a classic The Retro Future restoration video 😀 Thanks for this treat!
The music on your videos are superb
This felt like watching one of your older videos, and I loved that! Happy New Year!
This was a beautiful video for the final one of the year.
I thoroughly enjoyed this, proper chilled out now haha.
0:09 LMAO, nostalgia is strong with this dude

I am so amazed everytime that the rubber membrane can go for 20-30 years and literally still feel better than a fake one
Sooooooo satisfying as always :) love your work and Happy New Year!
I hope the guy you sold this to watches this video and appreciates how much you have taken care of it.
This is soothing and informative. Well done!
Love your vids mate
Friend's sister"s driving instructor's dad's brother's toothbrush...
I don't know why, but the farther the connection's get, the grosser the brush gets! XD
I had found a Gameboy color just like that at a thrift store for only $4 with Tetris!
You too Eliot, happy new year from Canada.
Your background music is amazing
This is the gaming equivalent to the Jerry scene in Toy Story 2
That scunge is what they call patina in the antiques business. It's worth more than gold and they drink it by the gallon.
Still have mine! Love them. Some of my favorite Zelda games out of them all!
The toothbrush part is such a classic quote from "the greatest Nintendo expert that ever lived"... And yes, this is also a quote ;-)
Always enjoy your restoration vids
This feels so therapeutic to watch.
Thank you Elliot for a great video for New Year’s Eve!🎉
Damn TH-cam. Not recommending me videos. I miss watching these cleaning videos. Thank you Elliot.
Those 3 Zelda games are PEAK. Love to see it.
Best Zelda games I agree my first intro to Zelda ( unless you count golden axe warrior on the sega master system). Beautiful games and boss video !
I really enjoyed this video. Well done, Elliott 🤘

Good luck to the bidders! That’s a really cool thing of you to do!
Whips out the iPhone first gen. What a legend you are 😂
1:23 i’d call it well loved and appreciated
The game boy storage room.. the Micro Center or PC part store of my dreams lol.
Damn Elliott!! Nice find!! I'm never that lucky.
ah yes i like the old tech used in the intro to give of the vibe of 15 years ago when such prices were "okay" good one.
Watched this while doing dishes looked down and they were done fantastic video
Great work, and happy new year!

A chill video to end off 2023
Couple years back, I got a Pokémon GBC both Zelda's, Pokémon blue, harry potter 1 and a case for £30. There are still bargains to be had
Awesome HAPPY NEW YEAR ELLIOTT
I heard that the aftermarket tabbed batteries are junk, so I went ahead and got the tool to spot weld new tabs onto quality cells.
I love watching all of your videos. That was an awesome deal for what you paid!😊
Have a great 2024, mate! Keep it up!
i am new to soldering, can anyone tell me if the batteries are placed correctly at 4:02? the first one looks differently placed than the other ones 😅
That toothbrush tho LOL
Great video tho!

Man, I need a copy of Link's Awakening DX. I've been buying Gameboy/Color/Advance games lately, got my hands on the Oracle games. Loving going through Seasons again.
Retro Jesus strikes again; another GameBoy given second life.
I love those kind of videos that you make❤
My 2 best deals were a red GBA SP and the 4 Mario Advance games for $25 on eBay and a regular GameBoy Advance with Link's Awakening, Super Mario Land, Tetris, Solar Striker and a few other games i cant remember for $30 on the local market place
Ive been trying to find a decently priced copy of Ages for some time now! Good find!
One time I found an E-Reader at a store for $25. That was last year (As in early January, 2023).
"Best Zelda games" thems fightin words... and you have my master sword.
must say the game and the gameboy got lot of love on them
Im glad to have all 3 of those games in great condition, i even have both version of links awakening, the original and dx, the original being the European version
#3:49 battery is upside down. The side without the writing is the negative
That was a really good lucky day!! Just one of those Zelda it costs about 70 dollars here in The US
