This is a wonderful video, thank you! This is my fav movie of all time, and as a child the oboe music Disney used for Maleficent would haunt me in nightmares, but I always appreciated how impactful it was.
Also, side note I guess... the textures and colors in the stone walls and tree bark are so detailed and beautiful.

Because I love Tchaikovsky, I've know for a while that many of the scenes didn't match the music of the original ballet. However, because I've seen the movie so often I can't think of the music without those parts from the film. Sleeping Beauty is one of my favorites too. It's just so beautifully done and the art is breathtaking.

I’m so glad someone wrote a video essay on this scene and music. It’s also one of my favorite moments of the film. Such chills with bringing a classic faerie tale to life with enchanting animation and soul-clenching music!

This scene used to scare the fucking shit out of me as a kid, those damned green eyes in the fire place. It gave me nightmares (amplified by sleep paralysis with demons that looked like Maleficent).

Never knew that about the soundtrack, does show how music in different context can have a different effect!

I'm definitely in the "I don't care if it's flawed, it's my favorite, dammit!" camp. As for the music, when I think about it now, it makes an odd sort of sense. Maleficent in this scene *is* somewhat like a cat playing with her food...

oh yeah this scene was the best part of the movie, followed by when she cast the spell for thorns and her turning into the dragon.

I love how this channel went from meme-ing Tom and Jerry with lightsabers to long form opinion pieces on art and media. Truly the hero's journey here.

Actually, I've got a much longer history since I've been on here since August 2009. I started out making Bionicle stopmotions (which I'm not proud of 😅) then I moved to Clone Wars AMVs then I started just uploading whatever I wanted. Then I rebranded myself during the beginning of the pandemic and here we are.
      Little history for you lol

Boss themes in Sengoku Basara and many other video games also count as leitmotifs.

Very interesting analysis, a ballet school here in Ipoh, Malaysia is going to perform the ballet this month!
