Thanks to this video for bringing old photography memories while I was studying in Photography & Photo Journalism at Chamarajendra Academy of Visual Arts (CAVA) college at Mysore, Karnataka, India. I had been using (still lying with me) Minolta SRT 100 body. Then upgraded to Minolta X-300s followed with Nikon F80s and now using Nikon Z6.
@@julesvuottosphotofocus4696 Oh, they’re just fantastic! I love both color and black and white results I get using Kodak, Ilford and FujiFilm 35mm film with Minolta lenses as well as adapting these lenses to my Sony a6100 mirrorless! Just amazing and so much fun!
Simple, reliable and efficient. I was not aware of this clc light exposure mechanism. It s a pity they lost le mirror lock vs srt101 which can be useful. I would prefer the Ftb but Minolta got good optics.
Originally it took a 1.35volt mercury battery. They are no longer made. A 1.35 volt Wein zinc air cell will work, but it has a short life. someone once said to use a 1.55 volt S625PX silver oxide battery. If you go that route I would check the meter reading against a known accurate meter. You can even check it against a cell phone meter app. Thanks for watching.
This is a wondeful video that goes into great depth about this camera. However I am slightly confused about the battery. Is it only for the light meter or is it a must have thing to operate the camera?
Hello Jules. Thank you for the excellent tutorial. I recently purchased a 201. My problem is the film advance lever will not move freely. If I press on the shutter button, the arm will move correctly. Also, I am not getting any shutter click when pressing the button. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Hi James, thank you for your question. I don’t know what that can be. It sounds like the advance lever is not cocking the shutter. Do a Google or TH-cam search for your problem. Let me know what you find out. Good luck.

Hello, I have this camera that I bought years back, a few months back I dropped this camera and it knocked the light meter out of position. Is this fixable? Is there someone that can repair this? Or is my unit toast? Thanks
The frame counter on the camera is additive. It shows how many images you have shot, so if it indicates 20 and you are shooting on a 36 exposure roll you have 16 frames left.
@@alantorres6949 when you open the camera back it resets. Try it without film. Fire off a few shots without film look at the frame counter then open the back. The counter should reset below zero.
hello, i just bought the minolta srT 201, and when i pull the rewind knob nothing happens. i don't know much about old cameras but the back won't open at all and i have no idea how to fix it
While pulling up on the rewind knob try pulling the back open. It’s possible the seals are deteriorated causing the back to stick. Let me know how you make out.

Minolta SRT line of film SLR cameras. Can’t beat ‘em! I have the SRT-303. Love it. Great review!
Minolta lenses are great too.

Another thing I like about the 101 is that you can view the aperture numbers inside the viewfinder.

So where does the SRT MC ll come into play. The 201 is identical
It was sold in the US at Kmart and JC Penny.

Is this camera able to shoot movies or is it just photography? (I know nothing about cameras)
It’s a film camera. It will only shoot still images. Only digital cameras can shoot stills and movies.

How similar is the 201 to the 202?
Very similar. The 102 has CLC metering and aperture visible in the viewfinder, that the 201 doesn’t have.
Great video!
Are there any usb on the camera so I can transfer it to my laptop?
The Minolta is a film camera, no USB.
So how would I be able to print it?
I found a digital scanner for film.
@@quesgray3423 you can have the film scanned after it is developed. Most labs do that and they can put the images on a CD or online.

Are you saying it’s not catching onto the take up spool? If so make sure you completely push it into one of the slots in the spool.
