I am going to count this as a win for Kabutops in my books because she is still my third favorite Pokemon overall. I was surprised to see Substitute in the 2nd run! What a great idea. Be sure to take care of yourself. These videos are awesome, but we cant have them without you.

Oof that R2 Champion Heracross is rough to deal with, I can't believe how close it was between the two at the end there!! This was a great series to see and out of all of them I can't believe Armaldo has the fastest time! Happy Birthday dude!! Really looking forward to future runs! (also Aero getting 3rd overall was a bit surprising but glad my favorite fossil Pokémon did so well! hopefully when gen 4 runs start going up Aero will do better in Sinnoh/Johto)

Gen 3 and Gen 4 were games where it wasn't uncommon to see the bar change color, even though the Pokemon taking damage is still actually 1 or 2 HP above that range. I've gotten robbed on Torrent Range thousands of times over the years, because the bar was the right color, but I was at 34/99 HP instead of 33.
That truncation of decimals, janky ranges, and things like that are part of the flavour of these old games I'd say. Sometimes that frustration pays off so much after you reset and crush your way through.
If I'm alone in this then just ignore me but otherwise... PLEASE stop using HP we get it, it's OP but there's so many more creative ways to solo these games. HP again and again is boring:S

Honestly I thought Kabutops got SD early...like before Misty early. Not sure if I'm mixing gens up or what. But besides that, I looked at his egg moves, would Flail have been better? Absorb probably would have been enough for Onix and a low health Flail probably could have OHKOd Bulbasaur. Still not upset Armaldo is the winner, not my favorite but underdog wins are always a nice.
It's unfortunate that he doesn't get Swords Dance until after the Round 1 league. Armaldo stomped because of such early access to it. I definitely considered Flail especially in combination with Endure at level 37 but I wasn't 100% sure on a consistent way to use it where I wouldn't be using Rock Slide instead for instance. It really hope I made the right call but I was very, very close to using Flail in the second playthrough. Armaldo blew me away! That's part of why I love making this content. Little surprises like that.
I think you setting omastars stats to make sure you get HP electric is giving an extremely unfair advantage to it as oppose to it bein truely random. You gave kabutops no such advantage. So i feel your results are a bit skewed compared to what you would exp in a normal playthrough.
I didn't feel that Kabutops needed to invest the time into finding Hidden Power. So Kabutops ran with perfect 31s in every IV, whereas Oma ran with near perfect to grant HP Electric. The final second playthroughs are more about exploring what's possible with a Pokémon than what you would experience in a normal playthrough. That's the way I enjoy playing :) Thanks for your input!
Before I watch i will make a prediction and will edit after it. I predict Kabuto will win. Scott's thoughts showed kabutops was the better of the two in g1 so I can't wait to see which one wins. Edit: Well I was wrong but hey I enjoyed the video none the less.

Good video! I think for categorizing maybe the best way is just by the time ranges, like 3-3.5 hours, 3.5-4 hours etc. may get crazy down the line but makes it a bit cleaner to categorize everything by mathematical efficiency
I agree!! I feel like once I do the re-design I'll incorporate actual times now that I have plenty of data points to play with. It's worked well enough to this point though!

Wow, both runs were well played, you thought about every single detail to make both competitors really interesting to watch.😊 Gen 1 Kabutops was really donating the mid to late game,while in gen 3 it really needed to be careful around certain opponents . While Omastar in gen 1 was just okay and it got better in gen 3 especially with the ability of Swift swim . But one thing that they had in common is the fear form overgrow Razor leaf 😂😂😂. By the way I really like the commentary on that one,the jokes were really on point.😊😊😂 And I hope that you had the best birthday day ever. Keep up the good work!😊
I tried my best! I'm the first to admit that I don't always consider every angle but I really try to. Grass moves anywhere in the game that hit were so nasty!! But yes, the Gen 3 changes to Omastar were fantastic the synergy with Swift Swim was fantastic. It was an awesome birthday thank you! I'm glad that you're enjoying the videos :)
@@Eggsceptional Being 4 times super effective to grass is really bad , because you got a lot of grass Pokémon especially in the mid game.🤔 So that could be tricky.

Eggcellent sir truly Eggcellent, 1st Happy Birthday for yesterday dude, should of said I would of said happy birthday sooner, hope you had a good one. 2nd all hail the Lord Helix, fair enough it only got 3rd overall in the fossil race, but at least it beat the Lord Dome. so close though, both run so well, that round 1 for both was rough, the resets on the rival and misty alone, thank the Lord Helix in the sky for Aurora Beam for Bulbasaur at least. Round 2, you planned well and the difference for both is deeply impressive, sorry you choked on Dome at the end though, it could of drawn even or even a little ahead. I think it was the stat spread and moveset that made the difference with these 2. Omastar had the special attack and the set to back it up, surf, aurora beam and HP electric plus rain dance and swift swim is a hell of a combo, its budget Starmie in a way because you got the speed, the power and some bulk except against grass of course. I know you like your boosting moves, I think rain dance was Omastars boosting here, it gave you the speed it needed and the power surf needed to get you through. imagine if it had thunder, it would be a beast and give Armaldo a run for its money. I like that you embraced Ancient power more for Omastar as well the boosts as rare but are helpful. I'd argue that once you got some PPUP's on it bringing it to 8 pp, it hits the same number of time as rock slide and is thus worth it. I think if Kabutops had Armaldos bulk, it would of won the fossils race, because it has the attack and speed and moveset plus the blessed Swords Dance, but it can't take those special hits plus the double intimidates from the rival really hurt it in the late game, thats the thing with the physical attackers, there is little getting around the intimidates. also, nice going for the itemfinder to get leftovers, glad you went with that, it is so helpful in solo runs. another hint, with the itemfinder, you can get a PP Max on island 2, just to the right of the waterfall on that single square and it can help you find all the random berries scattered around. I'm excited for that you got planned for the next couple of runs before the next VS. I wonder what you're going to go with, I know we've talked a lot about the bugs and poisons and Nidos and the Castform weather VS, but there is so much more to do than just those. how about a Relicanth run, the pseudo fossil if you can call it that, a little fun run to cap off the fossils? also, been meaning to ask, how do you feel about the Hotmons? I see Hitmonlee and chan a lot, but rarely Hitmontop, might be interesting to see. also how about physical Chan VS special Chan, could be painful but interesting
Thank you! It was a great one spent with the family. Lord Helix got a well earned victory that's for sure. The choke on Dome was definitely a let down but I was so pleased when I saw the finish time of 12345. Boom! Instantly a piece of the story. I suppose so, calling it budget Starmie, of bulky Starmie would be true. That's fair with the hit chance of Rock Slide it feels that way sometimes though it would double the PP at 16 fully maxed. I've been trying new strategies trying to diversify and deepen my knowledge and gamemplay. I've been told about that PP Max recently in the current video I'm definitely grabbing it. I'm going to be putting myself through a bit of pain. I really do need to work on my berry location knowledge it's true. Ooph Physical VS Special Chan would be an oddly painful one I feel. The Hitmons will get their 3 way sometime but I haven't quite decided when yet. I'm trying to shift the focus back to a few resource building projects and the like for the videos. I'll think about 3 way VS again soon enough though. I'm going to be going mostly for the ideas that have been most requested. The poll will be up with the next video.

I think you did a 3rd one with Dome it would win but not by much, maybe seconds. that finish time is oddly satisfying though, I'll give you that Bulky Starmie sounds better I think, it can do so much if it wants to. I've given Rock slide PPUP's before, all it did was miss more times, but thats just my poor experience with it. I love the PP Max, it is an instant OP item in its way, there are many PPUP's around the game which are just sitting around hidden like some of the rare candies, I counted at least 9 plus the Max plus whatever the meowth army picks up. Item finder will help, do what I did, during a vanilla run, get it as soon as possible and then explore with it and note everywhere there is something useful. like Thief, it takes time to use properly, but it is worth it once you know. physical VS special Chan will be oddly satisfying in its way though, for 3 gens Chan had the punches and no real way of using them outside of the broken badge boost glitch of Gen 1 of course, so to see a dedicated run to there power would be cool, I am doing a fighting only run sometime soon on my fire red and will be testing it myself, Chan will be my special attacker alongside Poliwrath. the VS will be cool. how about a divided VS. 4 way over 2 videos, Lee VS Top then physical VS Special Chan, it would be a giggle at the least
@@jptheflipper3825 I'm combining convos again to keep things simple! How do you mean switch the categories of moves? Like whether they're physical or special? 4 Protects in a row is absurd. Cloyster stalling me out with 2 in a row was annoying enough! And yeah I know that overlapping movesets is the reality of the games, especially the older Gens, but still. I need a little variety in my life! I'll do the Technician Hitmontop in Gen 4 when I get there. There are already VS that I want to redo in Gen 4 - eventually. I think there were opportunities with both Omastar and Kabutops to improve still but that result was too good not to keep, despite my choke. It's the way it had to be! That's fair actually I've just done some tweaking to the overlay which should branch nicely into my ability to try out doing a Nuzlocke. That'll be a great chance to really slow down and explore the nooks and crannies of the game for my future challenge videos. Hmmm that would be a cool idea splitting into the two videos. The algorithm sure liked that 3 way video though and the Hitmons pair so well for another :P I could always do a follow up like I did with Salamence with a Special Chan to add a bit of fun flavour at the end.
@@Eggsceptional that is what I meant, look at bite for example, Gen 1 it was normal and thus physical, Gen 2-3 it was dark and thus special and then Gen the split happens and it is dark and physical, a hack or patch for Fire Red could make it dark and physical for fire red for example. contextually speaking think of how good Gyarados would be in Fire Red with a physical water move like waterfall or a lot of bug types with silver wind or signal beam as special? 4 protects, the RNG luck was so bad, I reset after that and had 5 minutes chill and a shot of whiskey, it was so frustrating, I hate Quagsire with a blind passion, if you ever run one please name it something hateful for me, I call it Mr. durp because that is all it is. the overlapping movesets is just a sign of knowing what works in a run, there will be times when that is impossible of course. I know I mention them a lot but the bugs will make you think, the 4 Gen 1 bugs you haven't run can quite easily have a different moveset each, Butterfree gets some moves Venomoth doesn't Beedrill gets some unique level up options and Parasect has a movepool that on any other Pokemon would be OP. I look forward to what you do with Gen 4, you'll love it depending on the games you run of course, you you go for Platinum or Diamond/Pearl as they play differently to an extent and would you try Heart Gold and Soul Silver as they are very much the sequels to Fire Red? I like that idea for the Hitmons better, a good 3 way VS is always great, hard on you I imagine especially if any of them become a pain to run, psychic and flying moves will be a bane for all of them as they have very low defense. go with the algorithm thats better for you and your channel and I wanna see you grow more and more and having a extra video like salamence to go with with it will make it all the more interesting, especially after seeing you run all of them as physical attackers.
@@jptheflipper3825 Those are very good points but I'm hoping that I can answer a lot of those questions by advancing a generation instead. I do want to keep things as close to the original experience as possible, despite playing on 4x gamespeed with perfect Pokémon every time :P No kidding that sounds like a ridiculous rough run. I agree that knowing what works lands you in the same moves a lot of the time. There's just so few! It's not always the answer but most of the time, yeah. It's yet another reason I'm excited to break into Gen 4! I will likely try Platinum at some point but I will start my Gen 4 series in SoulSilver likely. I just love the remakes and the first 2 Gens of Pokémon were my favourite - probably because I grew up on them. Even though I'm totally hooked by the run button. I agree! I think the 3 way between the Hitmons with a follow up "bonus content" special Hitmonchan would be a good way to round things off.

I didn't feel that Kabutops needed to invest the time into finding Hidden Power. So Kabutops ran with perfect 31s in every IV, whereas Oma ran with near perfect to grant HP Electric. The final second playthroughs are more about exploring what's possible with a Pokémon than what you would experience in a normal playthrough. That's the way I enjoy playing :) Thanks for your input!

Good video! I think for categorizing maybe the best way is just by the time ranges, like 3-3.5 hours, 3.5-4 hours etc. may get crazy down the line but makes it a bit cleaner to categorize everything by mathematical efficiency

Wow, both runs were well played, you thought about every single detail to make both competitors really interesting to watch.😊 Gen 1 Kabutops was really donating the mid to late game,while in gen 3 it really needed to be careful around certain opponents . While Omastar in gen 1 was just okay and it got better in gen 3 especially with the ability of Swift swim . But one thing that they had in common is the fear form overgrow Razor leaf 😂😂😂.
By the way I really like the commentary on that one,the jokes were really on point.😊😊😂

I tried my best! I'm the first to admit that I don't always consider every angle but I really try to. Grass moves anywhere in the game that hit were so nasty!! But yes, the Gen 3 changes to Omastar were fantastic the synergy with Swift Swim was fantastic. It was an awesome birthday thank you! I'm glad that you're enjoying the videos :)

Eggcellent sir truly Eggcellent, 1st Happy Birthday for yesterday dude, should of said I would of said happy birthday sooner, hope you had a good one. 2nd all hail the Lord Helix, fair enough it only got 3rd overall in the fossil race, but at least it beat the Lord Dome. so close though, both run so well, that round 1 for both was rough, the resets on the rival and misty alone, thank the Lord Helix in the sky for Aurora Beam for Bulbasaur at least. Round 2, you planned well and the difference for both is deeply impressive, sorry you choked on Dome at the end though, it could of drawn even or even a little ahead.
I think it was the stat spread and moveset that made the difference with these 2. Omastar had the special attack and the set to back it up, surf, aurora beam and HP electric plus rain dance and swift swim is a hell of a combo, its budget Starmie in a way because you got the speed, the power and some bulk except against grass of course. I know you like your boosting moves, I think rain dance was Omastars boosting here, it gave you the speed it needed and the power surf needed to get you through. imagine if it had thunder, it would be a beast and give Armaldo a run for its money. I like that you embraced Ancient power more for Omastar as well the boosts as rare but are helpful. I'd argue that once you got some PPUP's on it bringing it to 8 pp, it hits the same number of time as rock slide and is thus worth it.
I think if Kabutops had Armaldos bulk, it would of won the fossils race, because it has the attack and speed and moveset plus the blessed Swords Dance, but it can't take those special hits plus the double intimidates from the rival really hurt it in the late game, thats the thing with the physical attackers, there is little getting around the intimidates. also, nice going for the itemfinder to get leftovers, glad you went with that, it is so helpful in solo runs. another hint, with the itemfinder, you can get a PP Max on island 2, just to the right of the waterfall on that single square and it can help you find all the random berries scattered around.
I'm excited for that you got planned for the next couple of runs before the next VS. I wonder what you're going to go with, I know we've talked a lot about the bugs and poisons and Nidos and the Castform weather VS, but there is so much more to do than just those. how about a Relicanth run, the pseudo fossil if you can call it that, a little fun run to cap off the fossils? also, been meaning to ask, how do you feel about the Hotmons? I see Hitmonlee and chan a lot, but rarely Hitmontop, might be interesting to see. also how about physical Chan VS special Chan, could be painful but interesting

I suppose so, calling it budget Starmie, of bulky Starmie would be true. That's fair with the hit chance of Rock Slide it feels that way sometimes though it would double the PP at 16 fully maxed. I've been trying new strategies trying to diversify and deepen my knowledge and gamemplay.
I've been told about that PP Max recently in the current video I'm definitely grabbing it. I'm going to be putting myself through a bit of pain. I really do need to work on my berry location knowledge it's true.
Ooph Physical VS Special Chan would be an oddly painful one I feel. The Hitmons will get their 3 way sometime but I haven't quite decided when yet. I'm trying to shift the focus back to a few resource building projects and the like for the videos. I'll think about 3 way VS again soon enough though. I'm going to be going mostly for the ideas that have been most requested. The poll will be up with the next video.

Bulky Starmie sounds better I think, it can do so much if it wants to. I've given Rock slide PPUP's before, all it did was miss more times, but thats just my poor experience with it. I love the PP Max, it is an instant OP item in its way, there are many PPUP's around the game which are just sitting around hidden like some of the rare candies, I counted at least 9 plus the Max plus whatever the meowth army picks up. Item finder will help, do what I did, during a vanilla run, get it as soon as possible and then explore with it and note everywhere there is something useful. like Thief, it takes time to use properly, but it is worth it once you know.
physical VS special Chan will be oddly satisfying in its way though, for 3 gens Chan had the punches and no real way of using them outside of the broken badge boost glitch of Gen 1 of course, so to see a dedicated run to there power would be cool, I am doing a fighting only run sometime soon on my fire red and will be testing it myself, Chan will be my special attacker alongside Poliwrath. the VS will be cool. how about a divided VS. 4 way over 2 videos, Lee VS Top then physical VS Special Chan, it would be a giggle at the least

4 Protects in a row is absurd. Cloyster stalling me out with 2 in a row was annoying enough! And yeah I know that overlapping movesets is the reality of the games, especially the older Gens, but still. I need a little variety in my life! I'll do the Technician Hitmontop in Gen 4 when I get there. There are already VS that I want to redo in Gen 4 - eventually.
I think there were opportunities with both Omastar and Kabutops to improve still but that result was too good not to keep, despite my choke. It's the way it had to be!
That's fair actually I've just done some tweaking to the overlay which should branch nicely into my ability to try out doing a Nuzlocke. That'll be a great chance to really slow down and explore the nooks and crannies of the game for my future challenge videos.
Hmmm that would be a cool idea splitting into the two videos. The algorithm sure liked that 3 way video though and the Hitmons pair so well for another :P I could always do a follow up like I did with Salamence with a Special Chan to add a bit of fun flavour at the end.
@@Eggsceptional that is what I meant, look at bite for example, Gen 1 it was normal and thus physical, Gen 2-3 it was dark and thus special and then Gen the split happens and it is dark and physical, a hack or patch for Fire Red could make it dark and physical for fire red for example. contextually speaking think of how good Gyarados would be in Fire Red with a physical water move like waterfall or a lot of bug types with silver wind or signal beam as special?
4 protects, the RNG luck was so bad, I reset after that and had 5 minutes chill and a shot of whiskey, it was so frustrating, I hate Quagsire with a blind passion, if you ever run one please name it something hateful for me, I call it Mr. durp because that is all it is.
the overlapping movesets is just a sign of knowing what works in a run, there will be times when that is impossible of course. I know I mention them a lot but the bugs will make you think, the 4 Gen 1 bugs you haven't run can quite easily have a different moveset each, Butterfree gets some moves Venomoth doesn't Beedrill gets some unique level up options and Parasect has a movepool that on any other Pokemon would be OP.
I look forward to what you do with Gen 4, you'll love it depending on the games you run of course, you you go for Platinum or Diamond/Pearl as they play differently to an extent and would you try Heart Gold and Soul Silver as they are very much the sequels to Fire Red?
I like that idea for the Hitmons better, a good 3 way VS is always great, hard on you I imagine especially if any of them become a pain to run, psychic and flying moves will be a bane for all of them as they have very low defense. go with the algorithm thats better for you and your channel and I wanna see you grow more and more and having a extra video like salamence to go with with it will make it all the more interesting, especially after seeing you run all of them as physical attackers.
@@jptheflipper3825 Those are very good points but I'm hoping that I can answer a lot of those questions by advancing a generation instead. I do want to keep things as close to the original experience as possible, despite playing on 4x gamespeed with perfect Pokémon every time :P
No kidding that sounds like a ridiculous rough run. I agree that knowing what works lands you in the same moves a lot of the time. There's just so few! It's not always the answer but most of the time, yeah. It's yet another reason I'm excited to break into Gen 4!
I will likely try Platinum at some point but I will start my Gen 4 series in SoulSilver likely. I just love the remakes and the first 2 Gens of Pokémon were my favourite - probably because I grew up on them. Even though I'm totally hooked by the run button.
I agree! I think the 3 way between the Hitmons with a follow up "bonus content" special Hitmonchan would be a good way to round things off.
