    Thanks for the video. I just recently picked up a 9/0. Sent it to Penn for maintenance and to have it converted to a left hand reel. Can't wait to use it.

    People mainly use these reels for large sharks off of the beach or piers. You can also use them for large game offshore.

      Salty Scales what rod do u have for the 9/0 just bought the reel but don't know what rod to get, want one that can be used for beach fishing for shark or to catch a Goliath grouper bottom fishing

  • @Saltyscales
    @Saltyscales  11 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    You can spool them with moi moi monofilament or dacron. I prefer braid and a top shot of mono. Typically 80 to 100lb braid.

      very good thank you. Im thinking of getting a trolling reel for baja targeting sail fish and maybe tuna dorado ect...I was hoping to get away with using the 9/0 loading it with about 300 yards 100lb braid and the rest 70lb mono....any suggestions would be greatly appreciated ..thanks again.
      Obviously the price for the 12/0 is much more than for a 9/0 on ebay.

    Can you cast the 9/0 (inshore)

    • @DustinBaileyOutdoors
      @DustinBaileyOutdoors หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You could cast it but it might be difficult. A penn squidder would be perfect for inshore casting. You should also check out the 1/0, 2/0, 3/0, and even 4/0 senators. They would be easier to cast. If you wanted the extra size and strength of the 9/0 I would get it and try to cast it. Worst case scenario you could put a float on it and let it drift to where you want it. Good luck 🤞🏻.

    • @Saltyscales
      @Saltyscales  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      I personally love a custom Calstar, seeker or St. Croix. For land based you probably want to stick with a 7.5, 8 foot rod.
