    1. Hot dogs straight from the package are already cooked all the way through.
    2. That is nowhere near enough charcoal to barbecue anything substantial.
    3. How is this any easier than using a charcoal chimney? (and with a charcoal chimney you actually get enough charcoal to get the barbecue hot enough)

Well, considering cake batter is mostly water, it'll bubble for a long time as the water boils off. Most of the "air bubbles" in cakes are actually caused by steam and CO2 generated during the cooking process, not from air trapped in the batter. Would still be interesting to see what effect it might have, though.

Decent idea, but a $5 chimney starter is faster, reusable, and more consistent. This is a lifehack to a problem that doesn't need a solution IMO. It's like all the other "firestarter" ideas like gasoline soaked lint, mothballs+petroleum jelly, sawdust and toenail clippings and whatever else people come up with. Meanwhile, regular folks have a chimney starter from any hardware store and a few pieces of junk mail to help light the fire...

    • @johnbeauvais3159

Taylor Robinson Prince Rupert's drops work because water has a very high specific heat so it can absorb a lot of energy from the molten glass without changing temperature very much. Liquid nitrogen has a low specific heat but it is so cold that the glass instead of cooling at different rates will just dump energy the molecules will attempt to align and the silica will powder.

Against the ney sayers, I liked this video. Informative and even in the end, you call it an "experiment". Not all 'Life Hacks' are to just make doing things faster. But a lot of Life Hacks make doing what you want to do cleaner and healthier. And this falls into that category. Someone mentioned putting "lighter fluid" on the coals. Yes, that can work, however, it's not 100% guaranteed to work; sometimes you have to do it a 2nd time. And, it's petroleum based, which is not natural for your body; and can even cause other problems, not to mention potential odd tasting food. This Life Hack makes starting a charcoal fire much cleaner and healthier. Also, to note, had Grant added some more coal to the 6 that were already there, the hot dogs would of cooked "much" faster. But he was showing a proof of concept, not speed. Two Thumbs Up Grant!!! Keep 'em coming!

Hey grant, could you try to make real true espresso manually or by some easy way? People say small devices like the Aeropress can make espresso, but technically, you can't because you need about 130psi of pressure to force water through coffee grinds to make that espresso and the amount of force needed to do that is not possible by just using your hands. I saw this one guy on youtube basically build a big lever to create that huge amount of force to make the espresso. I know there's also some manual espresso machines out there, but they're like hundreds of dollars still. Could you try to find a more efficient way?

If you add some old candle wax into the egg cartons, it slows down the burn and can make it even better. Unscented is ideal, but scented isn't too bad since it's the remnants of old candles usually.

I had best results igniting a grill using a simple tea light. The wax melts away and coats the coal and because it burns really hot and slow is capable of starting your grill. You can use some paper at the bottom, charcoal, and some tea lights on top of it or in between, light up the paper, the fire will melt and ignite the wax, and the wax will start up the charcoal. Grant could do a great experiment with it.

An easier way would be to put however much charcoal you want in your grill. Spray it with some lighter fluid and let that sit for about a minute. Then just touch a flame to it and your cooking

    Grilling hack with a hairdryer:
Single sheet of newspaper loosely crinkled. Put in grill and cover with charcoal. Ignite paper in several spots. Aim hairdryer at burning paper.
A hairdryer is the single most important tool in my grill toolbox. I use it to blow off ashes before I put the paper in. It lets me re-use charcoal. It blows out the pieces too tiny to grill with. Of course you can't use it for hair after you dedicate it to hair, but I like to root around in the bottom of my grill with it to get all the dust out.

ever wondered why briquettes are so much heavier for the same size bag as lump charcoal?🤔 they are mixed with silica sand... you're buying sand 🌝 , the sand "filler" is used for heat retention (refractory effect).
Lay a line of sparklers on the coal grate, cover with lumpwood charcoal, leave one end exposed, light the end with another sparkler...et viola, the kids love this 😎

The other day I learned by reading the bag of BBQ coal that the coals are actually meant to sit on top on the smaller grill to allow better air flow and it creates a compartment underneath to allow the ash to drop down. But you have placed the small grill on top of the coal just like I always have which actually makes no sense at all.

If you want the flame to be more persistent, try putting a couple teaspoons of vegetable oil in the egg carton chambers and let it soak in. It will act like a candle and burn much longer so you can pile more briquettes on top of your starter package. Any fat or oil will do, even butter or margarine! Using a food based oil will prevent most of the harmful and noxious elements present in petroleum based starters.

Another thing you can use in place of paper is something everyone can get access to: dryer lint. lights fast but burns long so it can easily catch the egg carton and keep it burning. I use to live on a farm and that's how we would burn off burnable trash.

Save your dryer lint. Pack into your egg carton bottom. Embed your briquette in the lint, add more lint. Weave firework fuse through the pack around the briquettes, and more lint on top. Then pour melted wax over the lint/ briquettes. When cooled, light it off.
