Loggers are well known for doing seemingly insane things to get logs out. I take my trailer up a very steep narrow road with sharp curves around near drop off edges. I’m taking it up to haul the white fir log I quartered with a chainsaw. I will bring the logs down to the Woodmizer LT15 sawmill to cut into lumber.

Never thought I'd gain this level of entertainment as well as some bits and bobs of learning from watching you do what you do, but I do. Always wanted to get into forestry growing up, but it never panned out. Still do wish to get into the field, but until then this'll do. Been watching through your rather robust library of videos and I will say I thoroughly enjoy your brand of humor and the content you cover.
After that first steep drop-off I think those quarters would have started looking more and more like firewood to me! 😂😂😂
Glad you were honest about staging a shot. I appreciate that.
Thank-you for the new tactical element added to my Bushcraft - "Just poke it with a Stick!" Yogi Bear 🐻 Approved.
I got a chuckle out that myself
Super cool video Wilson. Even with the staged ROCK-N- ROLL. 😁
Thanks
You know you've been on a scary road when you get down and it takes you an hour to get over being nervous. Enjoyed the commentary. Thanks for the video.
Nothing some draw horses and a skid can't handle 😋
Thanks for the little road trip. I get to enjoy roads like this and worse working on the transmission lines on Vancouver Island. The views the fresh air and the wildlife make it all worthwhile.
You are a family BLESSED with incredible properties, Michael! It's awesome that you take such pride in your stewardship of the land, and enjoy sharing the processes with all of us! Keep up the good work!!
can you do a video on your great grandfather and his old cabin? How'd he get there, what'd he do, why'd you guys move, etc. Thanks from Canada
Around here, we have some trying out very special ways to get logs out of mountains when otherwise impossible.
Zip line is one thing, then the big one is a zeppelin. I don't know why, but a zeppelin.
That was some lovely white knuckle driving you did there Michael. Reminds me of one of the primitive mountain roads I lived on, as a kid near Wenatchee, Washington. I hated sitting on the drop off side of the car going home or going out. My mom drove a big old Ford station wagon that was as big as a Sherman tank, it barely fit on the road. It still gives me shivers thinking about that road. Stay safe out there!
I was sure you had staged those rocks rolling down😂. Great videos. Thank you.
Me too. Effective though 😊
Stewardship of the Forest! Great show Ol’ Logger!!👍🏻👍🏻
Really enjoyed this video.
Thank you for taking the time to create it.
Good work Mr. Wilson!
3.5 miles and 2500’ feet of elevation gain is crazy
Yep, I reckon cutters&loggers do a lot of weird things for wood, I once cut and harvested a 30’ shaggy bark hickory for a company for free so I could get the wood to cook beef on 🥵
A leaky mountain. Sweet! You've been blessed!
Did I just watch a video of a guy driving down a road? Love the content!
Thank you for sharing your time good video
Great camera work @5:29 😮
What i have learned from getting wood down from a higher altitude is that the way down is more complex and nerv-wracking then getting up. You have 2-3t of wood pushing you downwards - breaks from the trailer are getting hot, sharp corners are especially fun... my way to do it... go slooooow... realy slow and if you smell breaks, give them a rest. ;-)
Yet again, thanks for the great video
Praise God..thats beautiful place out there..nice to see..instead of everyone trying to turn the woods into city. Like whats happening here..now..
I’d honestly be pretty twitchy just taking my pickup up that road. You’ve got a cool hand!
All them back trails look straight up and down to me but be safe😅
Another entertaining video, thanks
family I grew up with had a couple 1 horsepower log skidders that would have taken those logs down to the trailer nicely.
Great Video. Thanks.
sounded like some Oregon pin strips on that never truck of yours
Great video. I had an idea the rock rolling might have been staged.
Well, that was fun and a bit scary, thanks😊
That is a beautiful place!
It looks like the hauling is more scary than logging trees!
Looks like you could use one of those pull behind log arches. Easier to maneuver, take log out whole.
Better call Dee Six and a little road grading.
I can tell how steep it is ….
Your dad skipped out on the test run for a good reason 😂😂😂
Hehehe then do logging in a back yard in 3d and you are doing arborist work. I love wood problem solving
Whether by truck or even an ATV, going down a steep incline is always the scariest.
Backing down sucks way more lol
@@logangarland6434 Good point!
Hello 👋
Nice video very interesting content.
and
What a beautiful mountain full of thick healthy trees.
and
Then your Grandfather’s old cabin!! Supper Cool!!
What State is this?
I’m going to guess Washington, then Oregon, then Northern California.
Am I close?
Thanks for the video, I will definitely tune in and watch more.
BeWell and StaySafe ✌️
Looks like you need a grader and a backhoe to make a pass or two on that road, though it might be too narrow maybe.
Time to invent the tri-wheel or quad-wheel axle. Tri-wheel has three wheels equally spaced under the trailer maybe with the ability to shift the center wheel towards one side or the other to keep balance even if one wheel leaves the ground over a drop off. Now the quad-wheel isn't a dooley but four evenly spaced wheels so that three will always be in contact with the road surface perhaps with air shocks on the inners for re-balancing.
Beautiful land. The road needs a visit from Andrew Camarata. Nice video.
This makes me think it might be good to have an emergency trailer release. If the trailer decides to go off a cliff and you don't want it to drag you with it.
Coming down roads like that is why I have a manual transmission.
I would love to see/hear how you got full sized logging trucks up and down that road!
When I'm on old logging roads I always wonder if it is just time and erosion that has narrowed the road? Or was the road always that narrow and the semi's really did trek the same narrow path?
Nice rally roads.
Steeper and deader 🤪🤪
Would it be feasible to haul the pieces one at a time with the ranger to the switchback site and offload them to the trailer?
I did suspect a bit of staging. At that point, the truck could have been closer to the banking. The trailer wheels would have subsequently not been kicking the gravel rocks down towards the camera. :) Nice video nonetheless.
I'm having thoughts of @MartyT - you need a little excavator!
12-20t with lots of caging, bulldozer tracks and a grapple 😊
thanks, I am building roads with a light crawler (12 tons)manual tilt and angle...any tips on inside corners?
would it make sense to widen certain parts of the road? if not, would that be due to costs, usage or just being impossible?
I might have missed it, but how long does a trip up take?
Build yourself a logging railroad
I was just thinking...how did he know those rocks were going to come down right next to that camera that had to be a pain in the ass to set up?
I thought the problem was you couldn’t back the trailer up. But it looks like you did it the easy way by towing it.
Can't believe you don't have a tractor around there to use.
Sometimes, we firewood guys will do insane stuff just to get the firewood. So you are not that insane. 😉👍
'This time"? ....what you need is hot sausage spaghetti and a bottle of vodka
Hmmm time for a Jeep 😉
I'm thinking you'll do just fine goin downhill loaded; in lo 4-wheel and lo trans. However I'm also not doing the driving 😬. I have driven some of the wests downhill highways in an 18 wheeler. Did have to check the shorts a couple times 😵💫.
Don't know what to say? That's saying something 😅
that's why you should have got a small strong EU pickup 😉
I don’t get the four door truck🤷♂️👻✌️
I think that you need a friend to haul your cat over there and then you could make those roads less scary.
You need to drive faster through the bad spots 😊
Jiminy
You didn't leave the trailer at the top!!
On TV they would use a helicopter!
if bears can smell your camera, maybe you should clean it and handle it with gloves.
14 min thats a horrible switchback... getting wood out of the bush is as important.
Your truck wheelbase is very long. I like cab over trucks like a 4wd Mitsubishi canter better than big utes. But hey if you used to get loaded logging trucks out then how bad could it be?
Beautiful property, I'm available for adoption if you need a brother 😎
A lesser man...or species that identifies as such...would have messed themselves.
You spend a lot of time running back and forth setting up the camera and getting it back.
Can we see your yt channel. Maybe some logging?
@@alaskalograft guess you have no idea how long it takes to set up a shot, retrieve the camera , set up for the next shot and then edit all that stuff to present it coherently. I do have some stuff posted but it is mostly for family but you would know that if you spent more than a few seconds defending your favorite logging personality on a non logging observation.
I’m sorry to say you’re overthinking everything and overdramatizing the rest of it. Find a happy medium and you’ll have a decent page. Try that, sir.
Bad TH-camr! No biscuit!
Thanks for wasting good 14 minutes of my life. I'm embarrassed to say you consider yourself a logger or for even calling this video insane.
what a drama queen
