Also, it does matter in this context especially because her expertise as someone with a doctorate in public health was being discussed. By not calling her Doctor he was attacking her credentials and authority to speak on the topic under discussion.
She has a doctorate on public health talking about a public health issue, she is talking not only as a concerned citizen but also as an expert. To refuse to call her Dr. is to deny her opinion carries extra weight and merrit. So, yeah, it does matter
That's the gist of it, by refusing to call her title he is trying to discredit her opinion as an expert on public health, quite a douchebag of the highest order I might say.
He thought that she was ignorant when he saw her face and the spelling of her name. His only intention was to dismiss her knowledge and concerns. Too many neighborhoods are being dismantled by private entities and the residents are being dismissed and left diseased and/ or dying. It's a hard sell when you're faced with someone with the knowledge and facts that will thwart your plans. He got handled in more ways than one on this one. Good riddance to him.
This woman is a Karen lol. She's so thirsty to be in the victim Olympics she made a big deal over petty nonsense. Pure nonsensical pedanticism at it's finest. You do realize you're still a mr or ms even when you're a doctor right? You do realize that is literally just a title bestowed on an individual by an academic institution right?
So happy she didn't just let this go. It's about respect. She earned her title and it was important to make it known that she was speaking with a voice of authority on the issues they were discussing.
Exactly, she probably wants to be call that way due to her opinions as authority in a formal work meeting. Now, if she ask people to call her Doctor any single time, now that's delusional.
A Doctorate is a trial in of itself! She has ever right to demand to be called by her doctorate title! She earned that and deserves that it be said aloud by her peers! 👏🏼👏🏼

@@williamhutton2126 my self-awareness is quite intact, sir. We don't know each other, so I am not overly concerned with your snap judgments. Your honorific, as I said, is important. I'd like to offer another perspective. He couldn't verify that she had a doctorate, he could only go off of her claims at a public hearing. She was asking him to validate a piece of information PUBLICLY that she presented, that he had no additional information on. This is a tricky ask to make. What if she had made it up for influence? In this case she didn't, but other people would. What if it was a resident who wanted to pretend to have a title in order to be more influential on the audience? She was not speaking as a doctor (medicine) about covid, they were talking about a water sanitation issue in the community. The simple fact that you say "he could not check if she really is a doctor" is already disrespectful because you are questioning her word and I see no reason to do so. Her response to his disrespect showed a lot of class, and reminded me that I can still respect myself when I’m being disrespected. Kudos, Dr. Rosario!!
She's culturally right, and as long as it stays in the court of public opinion she will win. However the commission went too far with their action. @@jakeholt1572 they are genuinely seeing as a waste of time by productive people. Just people staying on the educational system too long. What they heck will a 13 yr doctorate in public health do for you
Just my personal opinion, but I don't think it matters and is disrespectful to other people with a doctorate degree to place them on a lower pedestal. This is coming from someone who has multiple family members who are MDs and have Doctorates in other fields. The word Doctor comes for the Latin word docere which means teach. Doctors throughout history were those who taught and learned, it never mattered if it was for medicine or not that is a recent interpretation. While MDs do rounds and exams that are extremely difficult, students going for their doctorates also have obstacles. They spend years on their thesis to become an expert and have to defend their life's work in front of a panel of established experts who basically tear it to pieces in order for the student to prove how well they can defend it, because they have to be an expert in order to earn said degree. MDs do amazing work. But doctors are doctors, people who dedicate their life to learning and teaching as the root word suggests. MDs are called medical doctors for a reason. We just refer to them all as Doctor because there's no reason to go around saying Medical Doctor Johnson. Or Public Health Doctor Rosario. Or even Medical Doctor of Cardiovascular Disease Dr. Yamamoto. They all dedicated their lives to learning beyond what they obtain from school. This is just my opinion though, and everyone is entitled to their own.
