Nice! Thank you for the vid. These entry level bike vids are great and I think focusing on the frame specs is very important. A lot of people are looking to find a good geometry budget hardtail for some trail riding.. so these details are important. Thank you
Thanks for the comment and glad you found it useful. Yeah geometry can be a bit confusing for beginners but all they need to know is that it will ride and handle similar (at least for geometry) to bikes at a higher price point which is nice. Take care!
The colors are great, huge selling point at this price range TBH. At least that's my personal experience... 😅 I wish you can hold on, the last years were a stupid high now it's just settling down the industry isn't dying the same people that were here pre-"pandemic" are still here. The ones who left are destroying the used market for awhile but that will eventually even out 🤞
Thanks for the comment and for sending positive vibes our way! Yeah we've been in steady decline since 2022. We unfortunately were not immune to having too many bikes (not as many as some but still too man), new prices crashed, used market crashed, parts market crashed, shops and online vendors liquidating driving prices even lower, it's a wild time and we shall see who makes it out. I think the traditional IBS model will transform into something different over the next few years. We'll see where we are at then! Take care!
@@BikingRoots take care of you too, I'm all in for Canadian small businesses I try to order stuff from places like the inside line or Chromag whenever I can but I'll admit to shopping on all the other marketplaces, trying not to, we have to stand together and help each other even more... 😉
@@LawrenceMacMacster Thanks and glad you are trying to support the Canadian Small businesses! Yeah don't feel bad, I think we all do it. In the end though, the way we buy things now is just different and when things ship so quickly now (and people expect them to) it opens up all kinds of ways to buy things and compare pricing quickly. It is super tough to be a retailer in that environment and get stuck with inventory. We will see how things shake out. Have fun in Canada!
Hi there ! Thanks for the video it really helped me Out , ill be getting it to start , what air suspension would u recomend to upgrade ? Thanks ! From México
Hello in Mexico! Thanks for the comment and question. I would recommend a Rockshox Judy or Recon which has and air spring and a quick release axle and straight steerer tube. The Recon is a bit lighter and has a compression damper and 32mm stanchions so stiffer than Judy. Just keep in mind 27.5 the only wheel option for 120mm option. 29 only goes up to 100mm for some dumb reason. If you need 120 in 29, go for manitou markhor.
@@jurisx85 Right?! That would be cool. I wish brands did that with their less expensive bikes but sadly no, most do not. You'd have to go to the San Quentin for that but that is a different bike with thru axles, etc.
Let me know what wheel size and travel you are looking for. Usually I have or can get the Rockshox Judy, Recon, or Markhor which are all quality name brand forks that have straight steerers and 100mm QR Axles. You can buy on our website and we'll ship it to you. Markhors if you need the 120mm conversion, take a little bit to modify and ship out but usually is the only 120mm straight steerer, QR option in 29er size
Yes, in the past models they did water bottle mounts on the seat tube that were pretty high up. That prevented a long seat post and with the standover on a medium, prevented you from going to a very long dropper because it would stick out above the frame too much and so you had to go to a smaller, less travel dropper. The bend is there, but it should be a bit lower insertion for droppers now (at least on the medium size). Hope that makes more sense!
@@ondrejmanych5688 Yeah if they are placed in the right area. I felt before they were too high. I'd rather have one mounted underneath personally if someone wants/needs a 2nd mount
They are basically cousin brands as they come out of the same factory (as do a lot of brands). Polygon has always been the factory's direct to consumer model, while Marin was the little nicer bike shop brand. Both good bikes, but yes depending where you live you may have both options or only 1! Take care
Yeah that would have been nice, unfortunately at this price point it is tough (but yes that would have set them apart big time against the competing brands for not a whole lot more money)
@@BikingRoots Yah tough but still doable. But even the new higher priced Bobcat 5 does not have an air fork and that costs $1050. I see bike prices coming down across the industry. Trek offering airforks on their new line up of marlin bikes at similar prices
@@danielwu7238 Yep agree completely, they have to be competitive to what the big 3 (and others) are doing if they want to compete. I know a lot of the spec decisions have to be made years in advance with the nature of how supply chains work. I will be reviewing a Marlin soon on the channel (we don't sell them but I'm starting to look at other brands not only the ones we sell).
Yeah If the price was close, I'd go to the newer model too. I haven't ridden on the trail yet (coming very soon) but I will see if I will notice the difference from the last gen. I'm not an engineer so don't always know what I'm feeling in geo especially if it is only a degree but we shall see! Thanks

Great review, very honest. I like that color a lot.
Thank you! Glad you liked the color!

Thoughts on the new Marin Bobcat 4? Worth the upgrade over the 3? If you think so, which color of the 4 would you do?
I already have the 2022 bobcat 4... Marin should have a frame only option.

I need your fork supply info! I can never find straight tube forks…

Just curious, why do you say that it's a good thing that the second cage mount is gone on the size medium?
because of the dropper post. It allows deeper insertion. But they should do a external mounts, I love my bottle mounts:/

Marin is a Polygon for the west market.
Not really. Polygon is shipping direct to consumer. Marin is a bike shop brand

I want the purple 1
Yep, purple looks sweet! Haven’t seen one in person yet but we will probably order one soon
Is it only trail bike ?
You could call it a trail bike/XC bike
I wish Marin would have given us an air fork

The geometry is worth the extra dollar compared to the last gen imo. Not that the older one wasnt good, for a cheap bike like this.

Good colour, but really not worth it over the three.
thanks for your comment, yeah I probably agree with you at least for my area in Houston
