I have an C400...and I would choose it over the alexa mini, that I used for some projects before. The options the C400 offers are superior, and the image quality is amazing....
I have the same mindset as far as equipment goes. I have the Canon c70 and R5C for most of my corporate work. I have the FX30 and FX6 for low-light work, for out-of-town producers and for run and gunning. I like have a full frame and and a APS sensor combo to cover my bases on a shoot. I also keep a couple of fixed lens camcorders for conference work and live streams. I will probably stick with Canon going forward for solid construction and ease of use. But they have not made a big enough jump in features to warrant getting a C80 or C400.
Just got the C80. Very happy with it and frankly bowled over by the new digital IS that uses the gyroscope rather than image analysis alone. Only thing annoying is lack of cage options at the moment.
I work mainly in the commercial/doc space too and have been having a lot of these same thoughts. I like that the Canons have cRaw options so you can really go to colour town when you want to. The cost difference between c400 and c80 is something I'm mulling ATM. On balance over three years the form factor is probably worth the extra but I haven't pulled the trigger.
The R5C is magnificent and it came out 2 years ago. Way before it's time. 8K 60fps internal RAW is sort of future proof. Slap an external batt of your choice and go to town. Only cons are micro hdmi, no internal NDs and unbalanced 3.5mm audio.
We live in an era where camera decisions are very tough. It is hard to choose a camera nowadays that is bad. I've been using Sony professionally for the past 5 years, but recently with the release of the C400 and C80, Canon seems to be stepping back into the right direction of keeping up with what users want. Been considering a C80. I look forward to seeing more content in your channel as well as educational training if you happen to make some on the C80. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
I recently got a LUMIX G9ii because while vacationing in Jamaica my Sony lenses were too large and heavy. I was close to getting the Fuji xh2s but couldn’t find it in stock locally.
Very interesting. I do docu style content, ITW and corporate, and my service could be described with one word : Agility.
So I need powerful and and compact cameras for mostly multicam projects, having smal packages for flying, and I’m still happy with what Panasonic S1H ans S5IIX deliver.
Solid codecs, VLOG, stabilization, unlimited recording (I shoot for 3-4 hours with 3 camera last time) and very compact.
Curious to see what they will bring in 2025.
Also curious about what lenses you are using ? (Bonus question : what’s your thoughts on Zeiss Otus in 2024 ?😅)
I recently discovered some incredible videos by the 13 years old Sony F3! And I am astonished by the film look and texture. That could even compete in today's standards
And it's a shame that Sony didn't create something like that. You have ND integrated filters, 444 output, and smaller sizes of files.
I feel quite ashamed how this new era is going so backwards, instead of the opposite.
Because you need to invest so much more in grading skills, software and hardware. All the photo BS that TH-cam nerds are obsessed.
You are loosing so much time in this gear BS instead of creating the video or the story that you want to tell.
I’m not the biggest fan of Sony cameras, but check out the old Sony F35. Big unwieldy camera, but the image is incredible and also has a global shutter I believe. It uses a CCD sensor instead of CMOS which makes it quite unique.
Sounds like the cinematography, production design and grading were what you liked. That camera has very bad dynamic range by today’s standards.
