- This is an introductory tour to the places to see and experience in and around Death Valley National Park. We've all heard of Death Valley. Maybe, some of us have been attracted to the name Death Valley because there might be a hint of danger and adventure. Others may have been attracted to its unique features, such as its colorful geology and history. But what is in Death Valley, what does it look like and where is it located? In 1985 I camped in death valley with a friend and his family for weeks. His father was a geologist and was studying river beds and the rocks within them. Camping underneath the stars in death valley was a amazing time for 5th grade boy. Thanks, to Patrick and his family for the memories.
Used to stay at furnace creek campground every October /November growing up. It's been 35 years. Thanks for the video/memories.

Thanks for your comment! That music is not Tchaikovsky, however I used his Nutcracker Suite on the tour we did of "Zion in the Snow". It seemed fitting.
The composer of this piece is Bach. It's called Toccata and Fugue in D Minor. It is an awesome piece of music and reminds people of Halloween or Frankenstein movies....or maybe even Death Valley.

It's so funny that everyone has a love/hate relationship with the music. It is one of the most well-recognized pieces by famous composer Johann Sebastian Bach. It is synonymous with scary and forbidding places - like Death Valley. Remember, "death" is in the name. Perhaps I'll do a tour of Racetrack, where the rocks move, and set it to music by the Rolling Stones........or would that be the Sliding Stones?
I believe the piece of music being played is called "Toccata In D Minor"

BackRoadsWest is correct on the music score: Bach - Toccata and Fugue in D Minor. Commonly known as the Phantom of the Opera. Mozart was not known for his organ music but was a master of violin -- A Little Night Music.

Music is Toccata and Fugue in D minor by Johann Sebastian Bach
I was there in the late summer of 1972 . My Bro' in law Frank picked us up at Salt Lake City and we drove down to Springville, staying a couple days with LDS family, then ano' 100 miles or so to LDS Temple at Logan, a beautiful B'ldg. It was already getting very hot..then ano' 500 mile to Las Vegas thro' Death Valley, & past Furnace Creek. He wanted us to experience & see where some of the hottest temp's on earth were recorded. He knew it would be hot, but that's Ok he said.( aha ) little did we know, but it became so incredibly hot that day. Frank being in USAF had lots of 'gadgets' on board, and the station waggon thermo' showed 182' deg.( Not engine temp) .he kept saying as we got thro' the valley, it had to be a mistake. Turns out that Furnace Creek had just recorded (1972) a Temp of 201deg a few weeks before, and so I found that our outside temp gauge was accurate.
Being a visitor from England UK, thoughts of ; are we going to die ? worried me..( Is this why they call it Death Valley, what are we doing here ? as my Sis in Law was in total panic & already in a feint.
I could also see, Frank was scared but he just put his foot to the floor and we flew on for about 6 hours. We got to his AF base house in Las Vegas about 11: 20 pm. A scary " I was there "situation & I just did not know it, which I've never forgotten, although the events of the day went quite out of mind on my first sight of Vegas, as we came over a ridge to see all across the horizon, the multi-coloured city lights and scrapers ablaze, searchlights tracking the sky, revealing a giant 'Welcome to Las Vegas' billboard atop a skyscraper showing 72deg -11:12 pm.. Awesome.
i don't believe when you say there were recorded temps of 182 F and even you say 201 F....this must be from devices where somehow the sun heated up some adjacent metals that were touching the thermometer???
@@videoluvr4204 That is acceptable & understandable disbelief, but if you care to check the Official records for Furnace Creek, late summer 1972, you will find I told the Truth. I'd forgot about it for many years & only discovered the recorded figures by chance from a you tube Video, about some strange events at the Furnace Creek Ranch in '72. I have to admit, I recalled it was extremely hot but I also was amazed, but lived thro' it.

It is the opening piece used in Walt Disney’s “Fantasia” (1940).
At 5:01 you incorrectly name the ghost town in Titus Canyon. It's Leadfield, not Leadville.

Thank you! To my knowledge, since this is classical music composed in the 1700s, there are no copyright rules. However, whoever published the music can claim a copyright. Bottom line, in a music piece such as Bach's used here, it is very difficult for anyone to trace back who published the music. TH-cam hasn't rejected "classical" music for me, providing it is over 50 years old.

You're welcome! Yes, there are 2 or 3 major strike-slip faults, like the San Andreas, that basically formed Death Valley and the mountains surrounding it.
I thought the music was the intro to death alley driver by Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow.
I recommend bringin hell of allot water it gets up to 100 degrees and higher u will go through 20 gallons in no time.
I know Death Valley, and this is an awesome intro to the sights and the feel of the spot.
But please: Correct "Mosiac Canyon" to the proper 'Mosaic Canyon'.....

I watched all of the videos by the Creator of BackRoadsWest1, he names the city or area, but NOT the State in the USA. I like his videos....But I need to see the State the Places are located in, because I don't know everything in the USA.

Thanks for the critique! That video is almost 10 years old, one of my first. I need to update it with the various things you pointed out, which people have done over the years. I just need to get there some day after all the roads are fixed. Never been to Eureka Dunes; rather remote. We've spent many long weekends at the B&B in China Ranch - great memories.
@@BackRoadsWest1 I know the area well since I live in Las Vegas. My favorite drive is Titus Canyon. Also, since I've been to Rhyolite numerous times, I bought some years ago a woodcut illustrated book entitled "Rhyolite: The True Story of a Ghost Town" by Diane Siebert (2003). As for the Eureka Dunes, that's where I lost my wedding ring. (It's a long story!)
@@david.e.miller so you lost your wedding ring in Death Valley and we were married in Death Valley, Beatty actually. We did our wedding pictures in Rhyolite. Along with updating the Death Valley video, I'd also like to update our Titus Canyon video tour. We used to live south of DV in Victorville. Now we live outside St. George, and there's more interesting things to see up here, plus we've been all over DV so many times.

@@david.e.miller yea, I'd like to update video using the new camera we use that's mounted on a gimbal for smooth footage. We actually live outside Zion in Hurricane. Ironically, I conducted a 10 person tour of the Narrows yesterday. Great weather and conditions.
I lived in Death Valley from Feb. 1979 to October 1979 and March 1981 to July 1981. I miss it, and if it weren't for my crappy health, I'd go back to work there. I hate Fresno, and I wish I were there instead of here!

A fugue follows the tocatta secrion. one part prested then another and another: very much " layeting". Again, the music is J.S. Bach Tocatta a d fugue in d minor. compare this choice to the mindless "loops" presented to as a "musoc"... I laugh and I cry...

Joseph, in case you haven't seen any of the other videos on this channel, they follow a similar format, which is a brief explanation in the front, then it leaves you to enjoy the visuals with music. Most people comment that they prefer this style as opposed to someone explain a bunch of stuff. It's a visual presentation, not a documentary. Great photo documentary, but I had to mute it all the way through, can´t stand the music from this chap, sorry! to me, Death Valley resembles serenity, nothing to do with whatever Bach had in mind at the time he composed that piece. Great video, otherwise.

Terrible music choice. This is supposed to be fun not a funeral.
I realize a lot of people out there have no concept of music history and that's sad. That music is the popular Fugue in G minor by JS Bach, a well-known 1700s composer. It is typically used in fun "haunted" situations, like haunted houses, and Death Valley has its share of haunted places. Oh, and in it's name in case you didn't realize it, "Death". Funeral music (where death is also a theme in case you didn't catch it) was composed by another famous composer, Frédéric Chopin, however Chopin's music is not in this video. So, before you shoot your mouth out about music, make an effort to understand what's behind the music and what it's being played to.
