    I've participated in only two Drum Circles in my life. The first one was by accident in Venice Beach: CrAzYYYY! The second one happened a while back with a group of beautiful people inside The Integraton in Landers (High Desert), CA. Both times were magical. When a certain rhythm starts getting a hold of the group, the participant feels that he/she is communicating with others and experiencing another dimension in our humanity.

    I dont know the guy personally but have watched him work many times and just because someone does not sign an autograph or accept your spirit board.. does not mean he is a F' a-hole... He is a professional and does a lot for many people and has worked very hard at his discipline...

    Looks like they could just be special drums provided by the school for people who don't have drums.
    I like the idea of this, helping people who don't know how to drum, or naturally find the rhythm by ear, learn how to pick up rhythm from the basic rumble.

    its an old argument and will probably never be resolved.
    in my opinion, the best most energetic and free freestyle circle will hit poinst at which the groove is losing momentum and some kind of change is necessary but no one knows what or when. some players will start to try and impose a new groove, and it can work fine. but sometimes the competition and confusion take ages to settle and sound ropey as hell. sometimes its better to have a point of focus for a change to preserve unity

    A DRUM CIRCLE becomes "a place" that one wants to visit over and over... In order for this experience to take place, one needs the right kind of open-minded individuals, non-judgmental, life-loving and of course, a soulful and natural venue...

    I understand how many folks dig the whole unstructured free form vibe. My experience has shown that tends to devolve into a monotonous mess all too often, unless the majority are very experienced percussionists. I like the idea of a leader of sorts to keep things moving in a good way. Admit it. It was getting kinda boring until he stomped his feet down and provided structure.

    what was that beginning song that was playing before they started drumming it sounded good! please let me know

  • @Trypno
    @Trypno 15 ปีที่แล้ว

    Yeah but you also have to remember that some people can't just pick out the natural rhythm of a drum circle by ear or vibes, so classes like this can help those people at least get a grasp on group rhythm and learning to play off of each other.

    what are those blue drums in the video

    • @KalaniMusic
      @KalaniMusic  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Evan Pillow Those were a prototype of a drum I designed called the Flex drum, later to be copied by the REMO corp. as the Versa drum. Flex drums were made by Toca, but have been discontinued by that company. The original Flex drums, which are very light and durable, are now available from The Drum Factory , located in Bali.

    This is not really a drum circle - it's more like a conducted drumming experience, but it still looks like fun.
