That’s the best way of studying! It’s called active recall! 😊
Cheers for the tips, I'm revising for air law - subjects as dry as toast
same here, cant stand it

I used the same method and passed my PPL exam here in the US, first try! Already studying for my IFR exam, even though I have not been in a cockpit. Will do that when my daughter starts school next month. Working around life’s sweet challenges... Meanwhile flight simulators are detailed enough to allow me to put theory into “action”. My logic; I will really get the most out of training once in the air, along side my flight instructor. Might save time and money too - theoretically anyways. Cheers and keep up the awesome work Ben 👍🏻
Passed AirLaw, HP, ACGen, Comms and Ops in first sitting using those tips! Worked for me!
Totally agree. I did exactly the same, read all the books over the past few months then swatted up using the App. Passed all my exams in a week. Great advice!
cheers mate, im studying the traditional way chapter by chapter, it feels like endless
I did exactly what you said, got the book and the app, I only had the book for two days and got 1 question wrong which I kind of knew the answer too but still got 95% in the actual exam, thank you for sharing this!!
my ground school instructor created the App, helped me 100%
what is the app?
This is old, but really helps for my current situation. Cheers Ben!
Ben, good tips mate and great to see your journey develop.
I can’t get the link to work ( it says no longer available)for the apple app so I don’t know which one it is to investigate further - any tips?
Thanks Scott
This is very good information! 7 exams in one month is unbelievable, congrats! I took much more time to do my PPL exams, I think this method will help me through my COM and ATPL exams. Thank you so much!
Thanks mate, will be starting my PPL journey next year so this is great to see! Keep up the good work :0
I completed all my ground school exams in February 2023 - but here's the problem for those visiting the site in 2024. In ~2021, the CAA changed the format. In the past, they'd select 16 questions from a question bank of 120 questions so pre- pandemic, you could really study and pass one exam per week.
The CAA went from one extreme to another. They went from very simple to having to study the books in its entirety. Not only did I study the question bank and the questions within the book, I also found a question bank from an academy in Austria. Now, some questions, e.g., wind from the Adriatic sea, is irrelevant for us, but 90% of the questions were based on our PPL syllabus and I'd find out of a collective 260 questions, I'd get about 2 wrong.
Now, a bit of background of who I am. I have a HND/BEng (Hons.) in aerospace engineering and 2 * MSc so I know how to study - and I still failed Ops and Flight Planning (I passed them second time around though). There are even some questions that aren't even in the books. My CFI even said one was an ATPL question. My flight instructor couldn't answer 25% of the questions - because instead of testing knowledge from the books, what they're doing now is introducing very similar answers so it's more about English comprehension than aviation and quite honestly, I was utterly vexed because of this.
This is really good for anyone just taking normal exams, great!
Thanks so much Joe! Hope it helps you :)
Great video.... As usual! Well Done matey!
Thank you, James!!
I’m starting next year. I was given the books recently by a friend who has gotten his PPL and I’m studying now so I’m more prepared in the future. This seems like it would help a lot and like to thank you for sharing this.
Cheers Ben. I'm doing my PPL/H .. just loving it.. 👍
How long does it take to get ppl licence? And how much does it cost on average?
Hi Ben
Just wanted to message you and say thanks
Yesterday I took my air law exam and passed 100%
I was worried that just reading the books was not working for me.
The iTunes app sorted me right out thanks again
I down loaded two but found ppl tutor to be the best by far
Cheers Barry
Well done that is brilliant!!
This video is great! I was just about to read and study all the theory by heart... Saw your video just in time, I hope it helps for me too!
+Giancarlo Antonioli Good luck!
Great Video !!! Really helpful especially for someone who is just about to start their PPL :D Thanks Ben!
Unless you have many years experience flying aeroplanes or you have a photosynthetic brain. There is no chance of answering over 80% of a 12 question exam paper correctly from a 350 page book. This is the method I have been using and it worked fine for me so far. I still read the books and refer back to the subjects when I get questions wrong in the app. I see nothing wrong with this its a great way of learning. Failing the exams over and over again costs you a lot of money and will only demotivate you learning to fly.
Great video. I'm doing POF tomorrow. Got the app and hopefully the same or similar questions come up.
Good luck!!
Got 100% in POF and decided to do Communications last minute and got 95%. Great advices.
Hi I’m in the early stages of flight training. what is the most up to date study materials / Question database for completing (EASA) PPL Theory exams ? Deirdre, Ireland
Great video. What software do you use to mix the video and audio?
I use Final Cut Pro X!
Thanks!
The links to the app for the ppl revision are not working, can you please tell us the names of the APPS? Thanks
Really enjoyed this mate! Good technique
Thanks chaps!
The link to the app is no longer working. Anybody know the name of it or have a link for the Apple version?
Video on how to use the CRP 5 for the Fuel calculations and TAS please
Great video, and well done on your skills test!
Thanks buddy :)
Studied PPL theory for 3 weeks by myself. Applied for an exam of all the 9 subjects for the same day. Got an exam date exactly today (09.11.2019.) and passed over 90% everything. Not rocket science, just sit down, study and answer questions.
@My Account I have been using CAE Oxford ATPL books. And we had lectures as well as CBT.
@@sztojanbarna you used the atpl books for the ppl theory?
@@exiled_trihard I used Google :D
For PPL and ATPLs as well. Good luck!
Hi Ben, I appreciate it's been a few years since you made this video, but I hope you can find time to answer a quick question. I'm absolutely new to all this and trying to find the cheapest way to get a license and fly - so self-study is very attractive, but I've been put off by a statement I found in CAP 804 - "FCL.025 ... (a) ... (2) "Applicants shall only take the theoretical knowledge examination when
recommended by the approved training organisation (ATO) ". Well, if I self-study, I wouldn't have an ATO to recommend me, so how could I take the exams? Did you come across this or does it only apply to certain circumstances? I'd love to know how you got around it!
Dude....this is really good advice. Thanks! Ill let you know if it worked for me aswell :)
Hi Ben really enjoying your videos. Heard about you from 2 guys one plane. Looking forward to seeing more. Would be interested to hear from you how you funded the PPL amd any checkride tips you have and perhaps more info on the skills test. Thanks again mate!
Good advice.

It's my garage not flat!!
Plane Old Ben I did guess that, as I meant to type Flat - LoL
Says the app is not available in this region. Scotland
Hi Ben!....can i get only the app and not the book? It's the same?
Thank u for the answer
For the thicker text books on revising which do you recommend? As I'm starting out my ppl do you recommend getting a pooleys ppl kit or something like that?
Hi Ben,
I think the app you are referring to in your video is the "EASA PPL Exams" with "PPL Success" written on the thumbnail image of the app. Is this correct and if so is it still worth getting? I'm in a similar position to what you were in and want to get the remaining 7 wrapped up ASAP.
Thanks,
Matt
Hi thanks for your video. Just one question i found those books got very little revising materials at the beginning. Can you please explain.
Really worried about failing the exams, I’m only 8 hours in and just wondered when about when I would have to complete my first exam. I’m only 16 and have not yet gone solo

Hey man, any apps for people doing exams in Ireland?
Ppl tutor
Thanks passed my air law and ops 100% today
The links to the app seem to not work now, what was it called, or who developed it as perhaps it's been updated now?
I think its the PPL Tutor app
I’m studying from Australia and my question is, if I can use this app also for the CASA questions.
I’m not sure, maybe things are different.
I'm really stuck with meteorology and air masses and all the atmosphere stuff could you give me any advise
Thanks
Ben followed your advice and have passed most of my exams with 100% or indeed high 90s. Just got navigation and flight planning to do, any tips for those?
+Stephen McDermott Well done on passing so far! Navigation and flight planning is quite logical, if you have done well so far I think you will do ok!
hi i just want to know that is it possible to pass a skills test even tho u have only passed 2 exams like airlaw and ops...or do you have to pass all the exams 1-9 before you are eligible for a skills. ?
Currently doing my studying for the EASA PPL Exams. Which books go with each exam?
Hi I'm just starting out on my ppl journey what is a good headset to buy once to last thanks
A standard set of David Clarkes are always good for when you are starting out. Not too expensive and will last an age. My set is around 3000hrs and 7yrs old now and still going strong.
Lightspeed Zulus and Bose A20s are great with their ANRs if you are looking to fork out a little more.
Can I share this with Bob McPhee? He'd be delighted his app helps.
+Jon Mercer Sure!
Hi ben please what’s is the name of the app
Ben Should i get the aviationexams.com app or the one u recommended which is pretty cheap compared to the avacs ?
I found the ones I have worked really well. Not really heard of Aviation Exams. Let me know how you get on!
