    Can you tell us how you are making the deep crown boards please. Thanks.

      That video is on my list for this year. There is a video on the channel talking about them but not making them. Search 'Multi Purpose Crown Board'

    You are so lucky that you don't have African bees in the UK.

    • @andrewallen9993
      @andrewallen9993 ปีที่แล้ว

      The African bees are coming across the channel on small boats, are extremely aggressive, have bigger and more painfull stingers and will kill of all the local bees.

      @@andrewallen9993 At least they are extremely Varroa resistant, In ZA we work with them daily, no problem.

    Is this Apiary still going. was wondering if you did a follow up vid on the veroa experiment. Have not seen this location in your films for a while.

      There is 1 hive left, which is the one on the right. It superseded itself and its currently on double 14 x 12 and I didnt take anything off them. Its chalk brood central. Varroa infested colony died in the first winter even after emergency treatment.

    You go from a solid bottom to a wide open screen and you think your not disturbing them. You just completely changed their inside environment. Humidity airflow everything. You endanger the brood thats in there because of your reckless move.

    • @BlackMountainHoney
      @BlackMountainHoney  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It wasn't a solid bottom. It was an OMF with a correx insert. The roofs had top vents in them and were replaced with poly roofs. The floors had build up of detritus and allowed fallen mites to clamber back in. Its 8c not -8c. Open mesh floors and insulation above is pretty standard. Vents above and solid floors is not a good mix around here. Might work well where you get 2ft of snow

    • @BlackMountainHoney
      @BlackMountainHoney  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Plus I added plastic screens back in below the OMF floor to monitor varroa. There is no change in the type of floor or the set up at all. They just got a new floor to replace the rotten old wooden ones with detritus build up

      @shanehamilton95 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@BlackMountainHoney Hi Lawrence, why is solid floor and vent above not good. Condensation?

    • @BlackMountainHoney
      @BlackMountainHoney  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@shanehamilton95 It can create a chimney effect where it sucks air in from the entrance and out through the top vents. Its not as bad as OMF with top vents though. Sure fire way to make the colony struggle. We prefer insulated roofs and OMF with the insert in over winter. Works for us
