BlazBlue had supers specifically for having full meter and an enemy at low life. Smash had win transitions for some characters and outright deleted people if they took too much damage before some Final Smashes connected.
Since seeing death fist dealing a mere 20-30 damage maximum now, yea I highly doubt they wouldn’t nerf hwo‘s poke damage. + Power crush is basically a broken move now, you will most likely crush characters like hwoarang easily if you know the frames
Large hitting attacks will do chip damage without heat, the rest needs heat for chip damage. They have said that armor has gotten buffed, so we will have to see about what exactly that means.

I don't hate the heat mechanic in theory but it just looks too easy for the opponent to just mash it ASAP and overwhelm you. Characters getting access to Heat Smash/Dash and unique properties on some moves is already strong enough and a pretty cool addition imo. It lasting longer when your opponent blocks/gets hit and every attack doing chip is just silly. Power crush either will become obnoxious to "balance" it out or you're just guaranteed to get opened up by an opponent in heat mode who knows how to play and lose the round. I don't see how that's fun to a new player trying to learn the game. As if defending yourself wasn't hard enough already in Tekken at low to mid level. I also hope they're very careful with what they allow you to put on the "stylish" toggle. Some moves have execution requirements for a reason...

@@concrete490 meters, guard breaks, chip damage etc. In 3D, historically, movement in third dimension arenas should give you opportunity to go through your opponent's defence and perform your own defence well. All these 2D mechanics do the same that must be do movement. But they nerfing it and adding new mechanics. You now cant dance around opponent, you cant do it effectively like in Tekken 5 anymore, the better tactics is use new mechanics while you can barely move on arena. Thats create a feeling that you more closed in mechanics than in 3D space and its more common for 2D games because you cant sidestep as an option, so this option must be exchanged into some mechanic that will reach same point as sidestep: defend you or help in attacking. In Tekken 5 you must move to perform well, in Tekken 7 you must less move and more use your magic abilities that will grand you cheap damage from clever use of mechanics that, i repeat, more about 2D fighting games because then need to have something in exchange of sidesteps, for example.

Seems Harada lost the script. But I called this slippery slope way back with T6 when they gave Alisa chainsaws and characters could actually block them with their bare hands. I said “lol wtf is this?” Now characters can block Nina’s bullets. Lol. This series has gone completely off the rails. No direction, no scope, no sense of world building or consistency. The bloodborne thing is a cool idea, so is the heat system I think, but what I take issue with... EVEN LONGER rage art animations. They need to include a game option that makes them much quicker when selected because it will get old quick otherwise. Animations starting to look abrupt and clunky like in Mortal Kombat, no longer fluid and natural like they usually are in Tekken.

Imo Itagaki was the soul of DoA. Without him there's no point in continuing it. Replace DoA with a new fighter the same way Nioh and the Nioh format had replaced Ninja Gaiden.

Some if not most of these mechanics are gonna need some serious adjustments when they come out. Think how broken rage drive and art was in arcade until they tonednit down.
The Heat System, for the most part, was actually pretty cool up to a point. Yeah we took chip damage now which would force some level of offensive engagement but hypothetically we could still utilize our movement as a defensive option to out maneuver and then punish players who became overzealous when in Heat. And yes we haven't seen much movement but I can't imagine they would have "nerfed" movement to make it worse in any way. Figure it would be about the same as in Tekken 7. And then they showed us Heat Dash....That for me is where it got really concerning because it seems like no matter what movement is going to be like in this game Heat Dash is going to make utilizing it as a defensive option borderline impossible.
I'm imagining Tekken devolving into a "rock'em-sock'em robots" game in the future XD. all characters will have no legs and will be a game of who gets to hit the other guy more will win.
This about to be Tekken's SFV moment, hopefully it doesn't take massive failure for them to realize they are behind the curve and fire Harada's ass but seems like that's the road they're going down.

Looks like they're trying to make Tekken less niche and more mainstream. Trying to take a little of its personality and further simplify and normalize it for higher mass consumption and spectator pleasure. I hate when developers try to take the soul of a game a way. Maybe they'll sell more copies though. We'll see. Some of the new stuff looks dumb. Tekken 7 is a finely tuned masterpiece. It will be hard to improve on.

I get what they'er trying to do but come on meter, advantage like crazy during heat, heat staying as long as you attack, chip dmg (a large amount as well) , healing by attacking. Like holy shit this is way 2 much

I feel like, more than anything, they're making an attempt to offer a counter to korean backdashing. It's been extremely strong for a long time, and using moves that push the opponent far away often don't give much of an advantage to the attacker unless there's a wall. Someone skilled in KBD always gets plenty of room to recoup, so I guess the heat system keeps the pressure on and prevents the defender from getting that room to breathe.
But turning Tekken into the least Looking Tekken game to date is their best way to counter KBD? There had to be a better way to make Tekken more welcoming to casuals without completely costing it its identity. This is insane to me.

It seems heat burst and heat smash do the same thing (rage drive) so replace heat smash with low parry. It doesnt say heat burst/smash have armor, so it looks like defense will revolve around Power crush for mid/highs, low parries, other parries, high/low crush moves, and ofc the desperate rage art at the end of a round. Movement really needs to be fleshed out for this to work i think (or there is some othere defensive mechanic we dont know about)
@@granddaddy_funk movement doesn't equal Korean backdash alone. Backstep sidestep etc were nerfed in tekken 7. It's slower and less distance. In tekken 5 and 3 it was better. If the movement is similiar to tekken 7 players are going to be REALLY irritated

Tekken fans are reasonably suspicious of change, but it seems way to early to be seething. At least wait for a beta test, and then you can have a meltdown.
Not to mention Harada was very clear on his goals for this game in various interviews and articles. He doesn’t want movement dominating the scenes anymore. It’s all about pressing buttons and closing the gap for 50/50 coin flips. Something which a Tekken was never really about. It was all pure raw fundamentals. Fighting with little to no mechanics what’s so ever. That was the appeal. And instead of trying to keep that and tweaking it for a casual audience and new blood, they’re completely abandoning Tekken’s identity and formula all together. People want less gimmicks and mechanics like this not more. It’s just sad to see this series go down this path.

Ppl acting like chip dmg was not an option in the earlier Tekken games. Know your history. Early Tekken (Ps2/ps1) gave you an option to take block dmg. Its not that game changing…besides with updates nowadays they can adjust dmg taken on block if enough ppl complain…

In 3D, historically, movement in third dimension arenas should give you opportunity to go through your opponent's defence and perform your own defence well. All these 2D mechanics do the same that must be do movement. But they nerfing it and adding new mechanics. You now cant dance around opponent, you cant do it effectively like in Tekken 5 anymore, the better tactics is use new mechanics while you can barely move on arena. Thats create a feeling that you more closed in mechanics than in 3D space and its more common for 2D games because you cant sidestep as an option, so this option must be exchanged into some mechanic that will reach same point as sidestep: defend you or help in attacking.
In Tekken 5 you must move to perform well, in Tekken 7 you must less move and more use your magic abilities that will grand you cheap damage from clever use of mechanics that, i repeat, more about 2D fighting games because then need to have something in exchange of sidesteps, for example.

Chip damage has no place in tekken games
Tekken has had chip damage for a long time, but to be fair, you had to ki charge first and that also makes it so you can't block. This meter shit is just heinous.

What happened to the King of iron fist tournament when martial artists from around the globe compete in front of a global audience for riches and to confront a great evil? Seems Harada lost the script.
But I called this slippery slope way back with T6 when they gave Alisa chainsaws and characters could actually block them with their bare hands. I said “lol wtf is this?”

It takes someone special to be impressed with the use of a 1button special into another 1 button special and little to no command normals. EVEN LONGER rage art animations. They need to include a game option that makes them much quicker when selected because it will get old quick otherwise.
Animations starting to look abrupt and clunky like in Mortal Kombat, no longer fluid and natural like they usually are in Tekken.

I dont have high hopes about a possible new VF not end up following similar ideas. Basically taking TK as reference since it's the 3d fg that beat it since the late 90s, and even survived alone through the decadent late 00s period for the genre. Imitate the successful rival is a natural thing.
Imo Itagaki was the soul of DoA. Without him there's no point in continuing it. Replace DoA with a new fighter the same way Nioh and the Nioh format had replaced Ninja Gaiden.

Some if not most of these mechanics are gonna need some serious adjustments when they come out. Think how broken rage drive and art was in arcade until they tonednit down.
The Heat System, for the most part, was actually pretty cool up to a point. Yeah we took chip damage now which would force some level of offensive engagement but hypothetically we could still utilize our movement as a defensive option to out maneuver and then punish players who became overzealous when in Heat. And yes we haven't seen much movement but I can't imagine they would have "nerfed" movement to make it worse in any way. Figure it would be about the same as in Tekken 7.
And then they showed us Heat Dash....That for me is where it got really concerning because it seems like no matter what movement is going to be like in this game Heat Dash is going to make utilizing it as a defensive option borderline impossible.
I'm imagining Tekken devolving into a "rock'em-sock'em robots" game in the future XD. all characters will have no legs and will be a game of who gets to hit the other guy more will win.

Looks like they're trying to make Tekken less niche and more mainstream. Trying to take a little of its personality and further simplify and normalize it for higher mass consumption and spectator pleasure. I hate when developers try to take the soul of a game a way. Maybe they'll sell more copies though. We'll see. Some of the new stuff looks dumb. Tekken 7 is a finely tuned masterpiece. It will be hard to improve on.

I feel like, more than anything, they're making an attempt to offer a counter to korean backdashing. It's been extremely strong for a long time, and using moves that push the opponent far away often don't give much of an advantage to the attacker unless there's a wall. Someone skilled in KBD always gets plenty of room to recoup, so I guess the heat system keeps the pressure on and prevents the defender from getting that room to breathe.
But turning Tekken into the least Looking Tekken game to date is their best way to counter KBD?
There had to be a better way to make Tekken more welcoming to casuals without completely costing it its identity. This is insane to me.

It seems heat burst and heat smash do the same thing (rage drive) so replace heat smash with low parry. It doesnt say heat burst/smash have armor, so it looks like defense will revolve around
Power crush for mid/highs, low parries, other parries, high/low crush moves, and ofc the desperate rage art at the end of a round. Movement really needs to be fleshed out for this to work i think (or there is some othere defensive mechanic we dont know about)

@@granddaddy_funk movement doesn't equal Korean backdash alone. Backstep sidestep etc were nerfed in tekken 7. It's slower and less distance. In tekken 5 and 3 it was better.

Tekken fans are reasonably suspicious of change, but it seems way to early to be seething. At least wait for a beta test, and then you can have a meltdown.
Well judging from what we’ve seen our hopes aren’t very high. The new footage speaks for itself.
Not to mention Harada was very clear on his goals for this game in various interviews and articles. He doesn’t want movement dominating the scenes anymore. It’s all about pressing buttons and closing the gap for 50/50 coin flips. Something which a Tekken was never really about. It was all pure raw fundamentals. Fighting with little to no mechanics what’s so ever. That was the appeal. And instead of trying to keep that and tweaking it for a casual audience and new blood, they’re completely abandoning Tekken’s identity and formula all together. People want less gimmicks and mechanics like this not more. It’s just sad to see this series go down this path.

Ppl acting like chip dmg was not an option in the earlier Tekken games. Know your history. Early Tekken (Ps2/ps1) gave you an option to take block dmg. Its not that game changing…besides with updates nowadays they can adjust dmg taken on block if enough ppl complain…
