Two men on the line, gyrational effect overload, pilot handled it expertly towards touch down... bravo!

Vertical take off untill reach a safe altitude.. simple.. from the tree movement, doesnt seem it was a strong wind.. some pilot thinks he can do anything.. end up jepordize the operation

Crazy... What happened to the guys on the line? Looks like they smacked in really hard... The pilot lifted them off without being in a stable hover... Unbelieveable!

You know you're going to be alright after being critically injured in an accident when a bunch of people speaking Spanish are running toward you.

That could have ended really bad, And I'm not talking Michael Jackson bad.

That was a heart stopping moment right there , glad the helicopter and the people hanging on the line made it in one piece but I'm sure the fall rattled some rib cages , is it possible the lawn surface had some sort of cushioning maybe when the helicopter, what if this kind of a drop was on Hard concrete surface , would it have destroyed the helicopter ? , would just like to know from pilots out there ?

The level of maintenance required after that type of hard landing would be the same regardless of the landing surface - grass/dirt/concrete. The crew was lucky the terrain was flat. With the type of hard landing shown in this video, the transmission actually shifts downward and impacts the fuselage. That is much more of a concern for maintenance than the landing gear. The skids on this aircraft "spread" and absorb much of the force from impact as well.

Well, the grass is certainly better than concrete but it’s still going to require the same kind of maintenance and checks after a landing that harsh.
If you’re asking why it didn’t explode into a million pieces. Well, luckily he wasn’t that high up. Aircraft are rugged. They can survive some pretty brutal 1:00 impacts. Helicopters also have the ability to auto-rotate, which means the air rushing up rotates the blades and creates lift and slows the descent of the aircraft.

Describe three idiots: This video does a really good job at it

first of all, I hope everybody is doing fine after this accident. As second, I’m sure the reason was not an LTE (LTE is mostly a product of not sufficient work with the tail rotor power by the pilot, and so as well a pilot error) and I think as well not just because the rope was over the skid. I think the pilot was not trained for it and couldn’t handle this maneuver. He didn’t stabilized the helicopter before lifting the people. after lifting, he didn’t managed the changed center of gravity (I don’t know, if the cog was inside the limits). We rappelling special forces via rope and fast rope over the skid without any problems. But you have to be well trained and aware about the helicopter flight performance and how it reacts in specific flight conditions.
The pilot lost control of the helicopter. not more, not less. luckily he managed it to bring the helicopter down without skipping over. that’s was the only positiv point in this video.

Would have to disagree with you on this one. The older Bell 206s had marginal tail rotors at best. Does not mean they were not safe but any 206 pilot will tell you a rear quartering tailwind can easily cause LTE which are documented all the time by go around landings. The direction of the rotation to the right I am sure the pilot had full left pedal in. This by all accounts looks like a classic LTE scenario aggravated by the momentum hanging below.

@@laz288 I agree with you, I believe it is LTE, it seems high temperature could have been a factor that increases the LTE. High weight and high use of torque.

Id say what contributed to this is having the long line over the side of the helicopter, causing the centre of gravity to be off.

Good catch. That’s probably exactly what happened.

Pilot not a hero. These idiots had the hoist/line over the skid and too much weight on it. It was dragging the machine to the right and being a small machine it couldn’t handle it. Totally avoidable

The 206 is more than capable of lifting 2 humans from the line... The cause wasn't the position of the line (however it could have played a part), but rather LTE. Look it up on google.

That could have gone horribly wrong, props to the pilot for getting it down safely

The pilot is the one that made this bad decision in the first place. And he damaged the helicopter as bad as you can without flipping it from that height. So: no props

    Why would anyone do this??

  • @greatbritishscarface7464
    @greatbritishscarface7464 ปีที่แล้ว

That’s not a crash, it’s a hard landing, good thing the Bell 206 isn’t prone to ground resonance, it is a successful helicopter.
I think it had lost RPM either because the pilot exceeded collective pitch, the throttle was stuck or the governor failed.

Looked like the helo wanted to bring them back in to stomp them after hitting the ground. So I’ve been flying fw/rw the last several years but while I was getting my license I was riding lines to go into terrain for pump inspections. I always wondered how it would go down in the event of. Engine failure, LTE, or just simply out of power. Luckily I never got the answer my self.

Helicopter suffered LTE or Loss of Tail rotor Effectiveness practically impossible to recover from at that altitude especially with two human subjects being long lined

Stupid decision to sling two large adults over top of the right skid(pilot side). The centre of gravity was completely out of whack, and couldn’t be recovered.

That is why you don't have human beings as external loads on a helicopter unless it is absolutely necessary. Looked like LTE which is common on the JetRanger. Pilot was an idiot.

And the stupid award goes to…
Amazing the frame could hold up to such an impact of a hard landing. Bravo design. Face palm to the stupid humans involved in this incident.
