Mistakes, I've made a few ... yes I've messed up, sometimes it just means a ruined photograph, sometimes it gets expensive ... Edited with Gling AI: bit.ly/46bGeYv
Thanks Andy. You make me feel better. Your fails put my fails in the shade. I have dropped a camera down a cliff face and broken the lens mount. I have gone head first over a rock ledge as the rock gave way underneath me with my camera . Although the camera took the brunt of the fall, I was more damaged than the camera. The camera suffered a small crack to the monitor and a bit of a scratch to the body. Apart from that it was completely functional. One of the reasons I like Olympus (OM System) cameras is their toughness and weather resistance. The professional bodies and lenses can easily take a dunking and be totally fine.
I guess I'm fortunate not to have damaged myself more than I have ! One of the reasons I went from the 550D to the 7DII was magnesium shell and full weather seal, both of which proved useful!
Thanks Andy, thanks for sharing your, sadly, numerous stuff-up. I too am hell clumsy and my main takeaways were (a) Always get a camera with good IBIS and never, ever buy a tripod and (b) when holding camera equipment, do not go within 50 metres of water. Thank you.
@@Andyhutchinson BTW I forgot to mention that on ANZAC Day, I was walking to the Dawn Service, tripped over some broken pavement and face planted. I totalled my $1,000 pair of spectacles but my OM-5 and f1.2 17mm lens survived the fall. 💪
we all been there :) really enjoy your videos and can't understand for my live why your Chanel has not at least crossed 10K by now. I will support your work no matter how many subs you have since your content is just great.
I guess my biggest fail is having an overly-protective mindset attitude when it comes to camera gear. I tend to coddle my old Canon 6D and lenses, which for landscape photography in Snowdonia and the Peak District means that I sometimes don't go out to photograph in the most dramatic and photogenic weather conditions. This fail is not as dramatic as some of yours, but it has led to me missing some great photo opportunities...
That's a nice bit of the world. Main issue I guess is that the 6D isn't weather sealed, so it's understandable that you wouldn't want to subject it to some of that parallel Welsh rain. :)
Wow! That was one heck of a lesson in the photography school of hard knocks. Looks like you have successfully graduated. So go celebrate with a cuppa. 😁

Blimey, you have just alerted me to things I do that could result in fails! Guess I have been lucky so far.
Thanks Ian :)

In photography, as in life, we learn more from our failures than our successes.
Very true :)
You been watching to much star trek!

@@Andyhutchinson Yes, the 6D plus a sealed L lens will cope with a moderate shower, but... 🤣

Haha! You're a legend! Thanks mate :)
A clever man learns from his mistakes but a wise man learns from other people's mistakes ... Hopefully I've learned something from your experiences 👍
Absolutely - thank-you :)
