Appreciate you - the crew. Thanks for showing up week after week. Speaking of a good environment... y'all continue to keep it positive and uplifting here on the channel and I hope you know how much that means to me. Thank you.
If there is any students from this school watching this take this quote to saftey meeting for me "A man should not be judged by the mistakes he makes in life, but the devotion he puts forth to fix them." My grandpa wrote that and I live by it and got it tattoed on my arm
Twenty-five thumbs up for Western Welding Academy, their setup, their attitude, their staff and their patriotism! If I was 40 years younger and still had both legs I'd want to go back to school there!
Back when I finished high school in 1972 the county school system had a trade school that taught welding, inside machinist training, car repair and house framing. The ones that took welding learned how to put the ground clamp on a whole can of welding rods and to weld a whole can of welding rods to the bottom of the can, not much more it was where they sent all the goof offs in the schools to get them out of the class rooms. That is the reason my dad would not let me take up the machinist course in high school After working for one year and saving my money I went back to the local Junior College and took up a one year machinist trade course. There I found some of my high school class mates taking the Junior College one year machinist course even though they had taken 2 years in high school. The first week our instructor who was a retired inside machinist started instructing us on some of the things we should learn how to do. One of the boys that went to though the high school course called the instructor out on one of the things that he said he would show us how to do, saying the high school instructor said that you could never do what our instructor had told us he would show us how to do. The instructor asked the student why he was at the Jr. College trade school if he had already taken 2 years in high school. The student said every where he went to apply for a inside machinist job and putting down the high school trade school down as experience they all told him to go to the local Jr. College and take their one year course and then come back and they would hire him. Two more in the class had the same problem getting a job out of high school. Ten months later I had to drop out early because I had to go to work because my dad got sick and my saved money had ran out. I went to work in a town 40 miles from the college, after 8 weeks on the job the company went to the Jr. College and hire all the students that wanted to go to work. Some of them were old retired military that were just taking the course to get the VA benefit and were not willing to go to work. The instructor makes all the deference when learning a trade. Having a instructor that read it out of a book that got the job because he had a college degree over someone that worked in the trade make a lots of difference. There is no reason a high school trade school can not turn out a good pipe welder after 2 years, other than the mind set of these highly educated school superintendents that look down on the trades as a place to send goof off student that will never go to college. I had enough money saved to retire at 58 while some of the class mates that went to college and got music degrees are still having to work now at 68 just to keep the light on, sad so sad how the schools and colleges mislead young people.
I'm only a self-taught hobby welder, if I can claim that, but I just wanted to say that if I were to go to a welding school, I think that Western Welding Academy is a place I certainly would like to learn serious welding. The academic structure, the positivity of Tyler, the brotherhood approach to the school, Honor to the Flag, abundance of tools and equipment, so many things that impress me make this what I would envision as a first class welding school. It's amazing to see how many states are represented in the school. If those folks come from that far away to attend, it must be fantastic. Thanks for the tour.
It is so inspiring to see all these people willing to learn and work hard to become skilled in a well paying trade. That is what this country is all about.
Private schools are expensive, seeing that pipe rack set up was cool,2" sch 80 in the rack is a tough one, where being smaller helps.Good work Austin, inspiration is everything.
I’m enjoying seeing what the school has to offer. I’m a welding student, currently enrolled out here in CA. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the welding academy for having their students and staff showing respect to our flag by saying Pledge of Allegiance everyday. We said it everyday when we were little and we should’ve never stopped. I loved hearing this. Looks like a great school!.
Tyler seems like a great guy and great teacher ! Love how he told each student how good they were doing. That acknowledgment goes a long ways for someone's confidence. Good stuff. Great video!
I know this is an older video, but this is the video that helped convince my son to attend WWA. When he saw the video, he came to me and said that is where I'm going and there was no changing his mind. He has since completed the course there in Gillette and is pipelining out in W.TX living his best life right now.
Austin! I watch you every Saturday or Sunday morning while drinking my coffee. Didn’t think I would enjoy this video when I seen it but man was I wrong. We need more people like Tyler. He needs all the publicity he can get.
What’s up Mr Kee, Brian Utterback here! Took welding from you back in 2014-2017. I’m actually attending this school right now. Crazy how you follow Austin too.
That's the #1 issue I have in the welding industry that I struggle with constantly is Fabrication. Like Aaron said, having a good attitude is Everything for success! This welding academy really teaches that aspect about welding employment, the better you can Fabricate, the better chances you'll find employment as a welder, and keep employment Metal Fabricating as a welder. LoL I can weld really good, I just struggle when it comes to fabrication, and a good attitude is the Key to getting better. Thanks for the videos. More please!
Students and others, If you ain’t burnin you ain’t Learnin’ !! Take it to heart now., there is always someone better then you in the field, in my 13 years I can proudly say there is always gonna be someone better than you in your craft, strive to be the one above! You will always have a flaw cuz no weld is perfect when you learn this you can and always will be pushing for 100%! God Bless you all 😊
I wish my school had a head instructor like him he seems very friendly and dedicated to helping the students. Tig is kicking my butt this semester lol. Love the content keep it up man. 👍
1734ish just depends we were really underpaid in my opinion. They paid us 36.00 an hr and paid over time 72 hours a week on a w-9 , and they furnished nothing and paid no per diem.
Austin, two questions: A. Are you taking up crocheting? B. If so what will be your first crocheted item up for sale in your store? Lol, another great video.
Got to come back to your video but want to comment just on the title and cant agree more. Being a Pipeliner is great but keep in mind adjustments need to be made in life, and specialized skills are great but for many reasons we need to keep eyes open and willingness to bend. Even if piplinine is booming things can happen where you cant travel out not always a matter of being lazy .
Looks like a very nice facility to learn how to weld in . We have similar up here in Canada . I really like the area that gives you hands on in pipe fabrication . It is as you said a lead into more work . This is a far cry from my first welding school which was a down hand school put on by the UA and the alberta government in 73 . It was a old condemned building full of Lincoln 200s exhausted out side and when everyone was fired up the welding smoke was so bad you couldn't see across to the other end of the building .ventilation was 2 open garage doors either end of the building . Primitive as it was it was the best thing to learn to weld one could get at the time for pipeline down hand welding . They believed in those days head down ass up and weld weld weld . There was almost zero tolerance for guys late or blowing shifts. It was serious business, they believed they were training future tradesmen how to weld with a work ethic. Good vid Austin
Gives me chills seeing that racks, going straigh to school after work and in SW louisiana that was not the best time of life. But it paid off when i got into the real world
I've been an electrician and self employed electrical contractor for over 45 years. I've wired and worked on everything from apartments to custom multi million dollar homes in Park City to Oil Refineries. Construction, maintenance, instrumentation. All non-unio. But I'll be damned if I can get two pieces of metal to stick together. I should have learned how to weld. I tried in high school but just didn't have the touch. What's funny is the best welder in the class in highschool barley had a high enough grade point average to graduate, but jeez that guy could weld. My best friends at the refinery jobs were welders. They say the welding crowd is a pretty tough bunch to work with. Not so if your electrician. I didn't get any crap from the welders. Why? Because they could weld anything, but without power or problems with the generator/welder who they gonna call? When I was one of the first guys to get laid off they all came by and wished me the best as I walked out that night. But I loved being an electrician even when I was freezing or sweating to death.
It's it true! A person can only hold themselves up for so long with a negative environment. A good environment is key. Thanks for the well wishes. Hope you are well also.
Great video Austin👍👍!! Educate yourself if you want a future, schools can only teach those who want to succeed and are willing to put in the time to learn. Thanks for sharing with us about the schooling that’s out there for those who want a future!!
Grade school is just the start . Secondary schooling will give you a better living ,and as with every thing in life only effort will get you to the finish line . good comment
Should’ve went here. I’m a school in eagle river right now, it’s good and all, weld all day. But not really hand on experience like this not just in a booth, but in these little rigs they got to simulate the field. And no pipe that big. But I’m in it now gotta see it through and a lot of state funding is really only way I can afford it, couldn’t do something out of state like this that far
What a great video. It would be awesome to do a walk in. Payb the guy for 1hr of his time burn a few rods. You men are truly inspiring, what a great opportunity you offer, makes me wish is were young again.
So I was just accepted to WWA as of last week and positively can’t wait. I live in Indiana and will definitely have some hardships attending but for the level of training and professional leadership WWA has, it is totally worth it. I’m scheduled for a May start right now, but man I’m fired up after watching this! I may have to just move my start date up....
i just recenlty found out about this school when i went to finish up my tech cert for welding i have always wanted to get into pipe welding but never new where the place was....how long has the school been a thing? cuz if it was around back in 07? i may of been a pipe welder....also like your pipeline welding videos has really put a new view on the whole pipeline welding life
Wish i could give this 2 thumbs up man. I went to Tulsa Welding School and honestly watching how this school works kinda makes regret i didn’t go to this one instead. But on another note guys where are the safety glasses??? 😭
My buddy just graduated from there. And says that school sucked. They’re focusing on union related jobs. And they don’t focus on mainline/ downhill welding.
I thought about going to western welding academy when I was a helper. But after talking with my welder and bruning rods at the campground everyday till I puke he finally gave me his seal of approval the next job I worked across from him not from behind him.
I gotta know...is that giant Stainless thing a BBQ? Man, if I didn't live so far away, I'd come visit you guys to take a tour if nothing else. I love me some pipe welding! Saw you first on tik tok. Grumpyoldman1959 is me. Keep on keepin' on, guys!
Well i saw this video about two weeks ago, and immediately called WWA and talked to Tyler and Lucy. Ill be moving from colorado in about 3 weeks to attend. @austin ross
Some of the best welders I've ever seen were women. I remember in Vo-Tech there was a woman that produced some of the best welds on aluminum I've ever seen.
31 yrs ago in voc...my teacher an instructor was a woman short an wired N tough as nails...weld pipe structure an all metal types from boat rail aluminum to stainless in pharmaceuticals...best course N instructions iv ever had
Schools are great but up here in Canada the schools dont really care about teaching its more about how much money can they get out of the students , put 2-3 classes of 15-30 students every 3 months thats not teaching , and then in if u cant afford to go to school cause lost job or family issues whatever they say the going pull your apprenticeship
hey guys i have a questions. im thinking about buying a engine driven machine to practice pipewelding n hopefully rig weld. what do you guys think i should start out with ?
@@Ruben901 Sadly i cant find any near me.. Im in florida. I been trying to get a 200 but i think ima have to settle for a ranger 305g What do u think about that machine?
@@enrique1765 I own one myself, it has a great duty cycle and can handle heavy duty jobs. It does waste alot of gas. So by the end of the day, you will have to refill the tank. I have not welded on the pipeline with it, but it can handle a 10 inch pipe. The machine is air cooled, not water cooled like the old sa200s, which means that the ranger will most likely break down overtime. But if you keep up with its maintenance, it should last you up to 7 thousand hours! Ive seen one that had 9 thousand hours and still going strong.
So dude is repping a UA Pipefitters shirt, running a non-union shop? All these things that he talks about teaching, you can learn through a UA Steamfitter/Pipefitter apprenticeship program, and most likely much cheaper and earn more after with better benefits. You also learn much more about piping. This looks like a good school, but wondering why he is repping union, running a non-union school.
That's why they call us welders cause we can fit pipe we weld pipe we can fit structural we can weld structural hell we can weld any thing from a broken heart to the crack of dawn were fabricators were welders we a breed apart
Yup pipefitting and structural work is more difficult. Not the welding so much but getting everything lined up and angles etc etc . On the pipeline you just weld pipe together. Sometimes the first crew will tacks and do a root pass then one crew fills then the last one caps. That's how my company welded pipe for a while.
Appreciate you - the crew. Thanks for showing up week after week. Speaking of a good environment... y'all continue to keep it positive and uplifting here on the channel and I hope you know how much that means to me. Thank you.
Where did you get your hat from ?
Im a veteran owned business down in Alabama and im having trouble securing work for my rig welding business. What can I do???
Anytime boss man, we appreciate you and Kayla for the videos. Y’all have changed my whole aspect of welding. Thank y’all
Do you work for yourself because I know welders who work for a company and they never get laid off
Is he a contractor because I know welders who don't get laid off
Crazy I ran into this video. Wyoming born and raised and I start at WWA in April!

Loved hearing Michael Henderson's story. That's how you make it, keep pushing towards your goal.
me too, he's now my teacher and teaching me the ropes of welding.
2 THINGS - GREAT WELD FROM THE GIRL (first time) AND YOU WOULD NEVER GUESS THIS GUY ONLY HAS A 9th GRADE EDUCATION - well spoken and he's the boss
What a great presentation of the school. Mr. Ross you keep being you. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.

This is exceptional - Tyler has put together one of the premier welding academies. Learn from the best.

I’m a retired welder and I used to love took welding stainless steel.
Love seeing people in the trades. Awesome video.
Seeing that flag and hearing they stood to pledge allegiance made my heart feel better. I needed that!!. Thank you!!
Wyoming is the highest paying welder state. I’m from Houston had the honor to work in Casper . Me and my wife always talk about moving up there.
What do they pay rig welders up there?
1734ish just depends we were really underpaid in my opinion. They paid us 36.00 an hr and paid over time 72 hours a week on a w-9 , and they furnished nothing and paid no per diem.
And they also didn’t have rig pay.

Austin, two questions: A. Are you taking up crocheting? B. If so what will be your first crocheted item up for sale in your store? Lol, another great video.

We seriously need something/someone like this in the UK. I am finding it really tough to learn here.
Great place to learn!!! Welders will always be needed!!!👍🇺🇸
Going to this school right now, and I can’t recommend it enough. Great instructors and overall a top tier school
Great to hear from students and past students. Glad you have loving it
The only place where they literally hold your hand to show us how to weld lol, great job man. If you ain't burning (rods) you ain't earning
Do you require a high school or ged stupid question just need to know im definitely paying out of pocket
This place is awesome and Tyler seems like a great guy. I’d love to go to school here.
Bright future! Awesome job and training guys, wish I could make it out there some day
You know your in the presence of a tradesman when the head nod of agreement just keeps on going

TRI-TOOL pipe prep and cutters best o the best.... Great Video as always by Austin Ross and top shelf Interview !!!
5:45 totally true, is easy find welder that can make a good work, but find good fabricators is way harder ,in any work the 90% of work is fabrication
Looks like a great welding school and Amen at 18:00 ! There are no problems .......Only Solutions " Wink " Keep up the good work Austin !
Maybe that is why I am such a natural as people told me when I first started out. I have beautiful handwriting and am good at free hand drawing.
Tyler is a top bloke
it's heartbreaking to think about all the small business owners like him that are permanently gone
That is cool to see a black man in that school out there in Wyoming!!!
You need to add bloopers more often, great video and great school

Had me at old glory... Merica!
Rico C Lincoln SAE-200
And older model sa200 or a diesel sa-250. Tune it up nice, replace a few parts here and there and it may probably go for another 10 years
@@Ruben901 Sadly i cant find any near me.. Im in florida. I been trying to get a 200 but i think ima have to settle for a ranger 305g
What do u think about that machine?

I own one myself, it has a great duty cycle and can handle heavy duty jobs.
@@Ruben901 does it weld like butter?
Also did u try tig welding with the machine?
Do you sell a tig torch? Thanks for your response

I’m an electrician and These vids make me want to go to WWA
Love this vidya , cmon
UA forever
Do apprentices from the local union train there?
Excelente video
That's why they call us welders cause we can fit pipe we weld pipe we can fit structural we can weld structural hell we can weld any thing from a broken heart to the crack of dawn were fabricators were welders we a breed apart
Yup pipefitting and structural work is more difficult. Not the welding so much but getting everything lined up and angles etc etc . On the pipeline you just weld pipe together. Sometimes the first crew will tacks and do a root pass then one crew fills then the last one caps. That's how my company welded pipe for a while.
Ua steamfitter in canada been off since last september lol
Pls tell me m doing welder study
Can I study in welder course in usa
