Born in 1823 in a village called Neradin/Servia, Nikola Bizumic was a poor young man with a rural peasant life, working looking after pigs in the mountains of a region called Fruska, northern Serbia.
He was a restless 12-year-old boy and one day he got tired of working on the farm and so he ran away to the city of Irig.
Once there he got a job as a barber's assistant at Petar Javonovic's barbershop. And he became a young apprentice of the profession and then a professional.
When cutting his clients' hair with scissors, he had the idea of ​​building a machine that would add value to the barber's business, that is, it would speed up the cutting process.
He did not find any support from his master, so he left him and moved to Ruma in 1836 (age 13). Even there, he was unable to obtain 100 forints to make and patent his idea.
He stayed in Ruma for a while and at the age of 32 Almost without money, he left his homeland in 1855 and went to London, where he found financiers for his invention, which soon began to be produced and exported.
The British immediately recognized the possible benefit of their machine. In just ten years, all of Europe began using his machine.
The success was enormous. Bizumic was even given the prestigious title of Noble Lord (given by the English monarch), and in order to succeed in the business world, he adopted the typical English name - John Smith.
He became very rich with his inventions and died in 1906, but as he had no heirs his fortune remained with the government.
