Windsor was of particular importance to the Norman conquerors given the significance of the River Thames as the main trade route from the capital to the country. And it's imposing towers and battlement loom large from every approach to the towns creating one of the most spectacular skyline also was created from once- separate village and towns.

    2. Windsor is the oldest continuous European settlement in Ontario, with roots going back to 1728 and the founding of a Jesuit mission near present day Assumption Church. From these beginnings, Windsor grew from a collection of French farmsteads along the Detroit River into four major communities.
11th Century: Windsor Castle was originally built by William the Conqueror in 1066 as part of a defensive strategy to dominate the area following the Norman Conquest of England. The castle was constructed on the banks of the River Thames, strategically placed to protect the western approach to London.
Windsor is known not only for its castle but also for its charming town center, historic buildings, and its role as a popular tourist destination.

    2. Windsor was incorporated as a village in 1854 (the same year the village was connected to the rest of Canada by the Grand Trunk Railway/Canadian National Railway), then became a town in 1858, and gained city status in 1892. The Windsor Police Service was established on July 1, 1867.

2.Windsor Lake, known as Lake Hollister until 1907, became the site of a plentiful ice business in the early 1880s. By 1886, over 2,000 tons of ice from Lake Hollister was sent to Denver and used to refrigerate railcars for the Union Pacific Railroad.

2.)Windsor is situated on the left (south) bank of the Detroit River, opposite Detroit, Michigan. Settled by French farmers shortly after 1701, when a fort was established at Detroit, the city was known as “the Ferry” and later as Richmond before it was renamed in 1836 for Windsor
