  • Kiting on a foil board with a Ram-air (foil kite) vs Inflatable. Which one is more stable? Pros and Cons.

You are best at explaining how it works. Thanks,

for bidirectional board (twin tip) the foil kite can generate more speed compared to inflatable kites?

Wave kites also do that in some extents.

I have heard on a foil kite you use a different power stroke to get up - fly the kite from 3 o'clock to 11 to start. is that correct?

It will depend on the size of the kite and the wind conditions first and foremost. In very light wind, you may nee to down loop the kite to get up and going whereas in higher wind, you will fly it much more like a SLE kite. Where you fly the kite while riding will also depend on the conditions and there is no "one size fits all" answer.

This was good info but you only covered about depower

How do you get a ram air out of the water ?

the Flysurfer Soul water-launches very similar to an inflatable, mostly by gently pulling the top steering line with the kite leading edge down, or reverse-launch

Ok, so now i am hearing that the foil kites are too fast and you can only use them effectively if you are using a high performance hydrofoil and racing.
I am learning how to foil with a beginner hydrofoil that is slow and also I do not like to go too fast. Based on the premise stated above I would not benefit from a foil kite as i am ridding slow compared to other more experienced riders.
Can you comment on this please?

Hey Simon, I have used the foil kites on the slow and fast foilboards. The benefit of the foils is they hang in the air and more stable in the light conditions as well as their slower turning speeds help as well when your depowered. The foils can ride slow or fast, its all in how you fly them, its not like they will out run you if your riding slower. Remember Im talking about the wind speeds in the lighter range. For the higher wind ranges, I would say above 20mph is a complete different idea..
