“Je suis Malade”, now a french classic, was written by famous French singer & songwriter Serge Lama together with composer/singer Alice Dona in 1973. This is based on his own experience and he was the original performer, hence some lyrics are a bit male-oriented (eg my mother leaves me, whiskies, I pour my blood in your body, …). When Serge Lama had a dinner with Alice Dona and told her about his obsessive love that was leading to a road block, she came back home and composed the music in a couple of hours. The morning after, she presented him the music and he wrote the lyrics in … 20 minutes. Serge Lama was the original performer in 1973, it started to be promoted on the radio, and the song was brought to fame only when, a few months after, Dalida covered it. She was an absolute mega star in France, another emotional powerhouse, and this song resonated very much with her own feelings. Her success with this song transformed it into a french classic, and started to make it famous abroad. But it is Lara Fabian that really made this song a very popular song in many countries with her cover in the mid 90s. At that time Dalida had already passed away, but Serge Lama was (and is) still alive. Dalida and Serge were two inspirations for Lara, so she sent an audio copy to Serge of her version. She was unknown at that time in France but he was so impressed with her vocal skills and her emotions rendering that he invited her in France to sing it as a duet during his own Paris concert in January 1995. It was a triumph. So he sat in a front row seat and asked her to sing it again alone. Lara also had made some subtle changes to the song that gave it even more power. “Je suis Malade”, now a french classic, was written by famous French singer & songwriter Serge Lama together with composer/singer Alice Dona in 1973.
This is based on his own experience and he was the original performer, hence some lyrics are a bit male-oriented (eg my mother leaves me, whiskies, I pour my blood in your body, …).
When Serge Lama had a dinner with Alice Dona and told her about his obsessive love that was leading to a road block, she came back home and composed the music in a couple of hours.
The morning after, she presented him the music and he wrote the lyrics in … 20 minutes.
Serge Lama was the original performer in 1973, it started to be promoted on the radio, and the song was brought to fame only when, a few months after, Dalida covered it. She was an absolute mega star in France, another emotional powerhouse, and this song resonated very much with her own feelings. Her success with this song transformed it into a french classic, and started to make it famous abroad.
But it is Lara Fabian that really made this song a very popular song in many countries with her cover in the mid 90s.
At that time Dalida had already passed away, but Serge Lama was (and is) still alive. Dalida and Serge were two inspirations for Lara, so she sent an audio copy to Serge of her version.
She was unknown at that time in France but he was so impressed with her vocal skills and her emotions rendering that he invited her in France to sing it as a duet during his own Paris concert in January 1995. It was a triumph. So he sat in a front row seat and asked her to sing it again alone.
Lara also had made some subtle changes to the song that gave it even more power. Serge and Lara became good friends and performed several other duets later on.

is legendary internationally and has attracted many artists to do a cover, even from non french-speaking countries.
The most recent ones I am aware of are from italian singer Giulia Falcone, from the korean singer Choi Sung Hoon or from the korean band Forestella.
Lara is used to perform the song very differently in each of her tour and for instance the En Toute Intimité, 2003, Paris Olympia version is even more dramatic

Lara even wrote a song for Dimash (Your Love). She is a legend in many many countries and was supposed to be a guest at the Voice Belgium last week-end but had a small accident and could not travel for 48 hours.

Some people listen to her with their ears only which is pleasant enough,but others listen also with their souls. Lara is one of those rare artists who performs from her soul to ours. Be prepared for a ton of suggestions, any song from his concert is great with Perdere l'amour, Caruso and You are not from here being some of my faves. Adagio also from this concert is a masterclass in breath and voice control in addition to highlighting her crystal clear belting ability. Yes, she did work with Dimash and a female opera singer named Aida in Te Amo Cosi, also there is a side by side of the two of them performing Mademoiselle Hyde, by Igor Krutoy. Igor has both of them under his very skilled wing.

Lara is a world class performer and i'm not surprised that she is Dimash's idol.The way she gets into character, tells the story and conveys emotion is just phenomenal. Speaks 4 languages ( French, English, Italian and Spanish) also convertional in russian and portugese , sings in 12 , wrote 90% of the songs on her 16 albums ( 3 in english) more than 30 millions albums sold and at age 54 still the # 1 voice and more gorgeous than ever . 👍👍Indeed this song is powerful. It is the joint work of a woman, Alice Dona, a French composer who created the melody and Serge Lama, a French singer, who wrote the lyrics and who sang it in 1973. The story in this song is quite autobiographical. Its purpose is not to raise morale, but to describe and express the pangs of lovesickness. This song was and continues to be a great success. Serge Lama is powerful when he sings this song but I recognize that Lara Fabian brings a higher melodramatic dimension through the quality of his voice and the quality of his interpretation. You will notice that the pianist who accompanies Lara Fabian here is Igor Krutoy, a great friend and admirer of the singer, but he is also the one who, much later, will discover Dimash and will want to compose songs for him or accompany him in covers of which he is the composer. The most perfect delivery of a song done on stage, live! Voice. Performance. The entire package. She was completed into the song from before she even started singing up to the very end of the video (which you, the reactor, cut short) because it took her quite a while recompose herself and to become aware of her audience. She was transfered into the world of the story through this whole performance

The story of the song: French author and performer Serge Lama was deeply married when he fell in love with Mademoiselle Michel Annie Potier. Serge, in love, began secretly dating his beloved. Forced to hide and live in constant lies, Serge Lama poured out all his feelings in "Je suis malade".
Delilah heard this song on TV once. "Je suis malade", riddled with pain and despair, was close and understandable to the singer. Delilah decided that she just had to sing it! After all, Dalida's own life was full of bitterness and loss. The piece was incredibly suitable for the singer. Delilah recorded her version of the song in 1973. At the age of 54, the singer, having swallowed pills, fell asleep forever. In this regard, her version of "Je suis malade" sounded even more tragic…
In 1994, the song got another revival. Lara Fabian recorded "Je suis malade" for her album "Capre Diem".
