Quite literally! A literal pioneer. A founding member.

Latifah has more talent in her pinky toe then any of the socalled female "rappers" nowadays

Set it off is the movie your talking about
The key 🔑 at the beginning of the videos has a personal meaning
Its her brother's key to his motorcycle. He was killed in an accident
She one of the pioneers, you guys need to check other female MCs. They wrote their own lyrics and had talent
      Check out Monie Love,
      MC Lytle, Yo-Yo, Da Brat,
Salt n Pepa, Roxanne Shante, TLC, Missy Elliott and others from 80's and 90's

This was the golden age of hip hop. . And I was blessed enough to have been thr to witness all of it. . It's a shame it's all gone.

The key the show her wearing on her necklace is to honor her brother that she used to ride motorcycles with. He passed away in a crash. Not sure if anyone mentioned this yet. Also I'm a 47 year old white woman who has had a crush on her for 30 yrs. She's stunning and never ages! Next try "Ladies First" by her

When it comes to Queen Latifah’s acting career after the bone collector she had a no death clause in her contract, so that means any movie or TV show that she does she can’t die. Her death in set it off was enough for me because of how well that she did it. Her character only died in 3 films( Set it off, Sphere, The bone collector)

Latifah's delivery and breath control on the mic was just crazy. I'm just glad to see a younger generation vibe out and appreciate the OG's from yester-year. That Saxaphone sample is crazy. Oh ya and she can write too. This was a time when half of the HIp Hop artists were socially and politically driven.

Important reply song to early 'raunch rap.' A 1993 time capsule. Before Gen-X era, orig. hip hop/rap lyrics were mostly about the 'movement' - not degrading women.

    • @michellelaguerre8760

YES the early hip-hop was about being unique lyrically, and
Competing lyrically without any violence towards one another,, by whatever the reasons they became, East Coast versus West Coast

Queen Latifa is the Queen of hip hop. Never let anybody try telling you any of these young ratchets are the queens of anything other than being tacky and or ratchet.

if you like that kind female power, listen to the sad but empowerment song of Apani B Fly with "A million eyes". She tells the story that she got raped, but she never let them to be her inside of her mind. Very powerful lyrics.

Ya'll need to do a deep dive in Black music period. Other cultures appreciate our greats across the genres, sadly black millennials and Gen Zers don't study our rich musical heritage from the negro spirituals to the mid 1990s. Post year 2000 black music is mostly trash.
