むかしむかし、あるところにおじいさんとおばあさんがおりました。
おじいさんは山へしばを狩りに、おばあさんは川に洗濯に行きました。
すると川上から大きな桃が流れてきました。
おばあさんは桃を拾って、家に持って帰りました。
おじいさんが帰ってきて桃を眺めていると、桃がポンと二つに割れて、
赤ちゃんが飛び出してきました。
二人は赤ちゃんに「桃太郎」という名前をつけました。
桃太郎は元気で優しい、力強い男の子に成長しました。
遠いところには鬼ヶ島という、鬼が住んでる島があって、
方々の国から鬼たちが奪い取った宝物があるという話を聞きました。
そこで力試しに桃太郎は、鬼を懲らしめに行こうと決めました。
おばあさんに力だでる「吉備団子」を作ってもらい、鬼ヶ島に出発です。
途中、犬と猿と雉が吉備団子をもらって、お供についてきました。
船に乗って鬼ヶ島にやってきた桃太郎、犬と猿と雉。
雉が先回りして、門の鍵を開け、いざ出陣。
桃太郎たちは鬼を退治して、宝物を取り返しました。
そしておじいさんとおばあさんのところへ無事に戻ってきました。
めでたしめでたし。
Once upon a time, there was a grandfather and a grandmother.
The grandfather went to the mountains to hunt for shiba (Japanese knapweed), and the grandmother went to the river to wash clothes.
As they were washing their clothes, a large peach floated down from the river.
Grandma picked up the peach and brought it home.
When the grandfather came home, he looked at the peach and saw that it had split in two.A baby jumped out of the peach.
They named the baby Momotaro.
Momotaro grew up to be a healthy, gentle, and strong boy.
There was an island far away called Onigashima, where demons lived.
Momotaro heard that there was an island called Onigashima, where ogres lived, and that there were treasures that the ogres had taken from various countries.
Momotaro decided to go there to test his strength and punish the ogres.
He asked his grandmother to make "kibi dango," which would give him strength, and set off for Onigashima.
On the way, a dog, a monkey, and a pheasant got Kibi Dango and accompanied him.
Momotaro, the dog, monkey and pheasant came to Onigashima by boat.
The pheasant went ahead and unlocked the gate, and they set out for the island.
Momotaro and his friends defeated the ogres and retrieved the treasures.
They returned safely to their grandfather and grandmother.
And then, they returned safely to their grandparents.
