Canary Wharf is so modern, spacious, clean, and quiet. 😃 It was interesting to see Chase, Citibank, and KPMG there. 11:15 The dogs are so cute! 🐕 Thank you for sharing this informative and relaxing stroll, AK! 🤗
This is in my top three AK walks: the sullen beauty and interplay between predictability and utter unpredictability (watching that lady make her bus) were mystifyingly transcendent. Your acerbic and semi-British wit held forth as you revealed both new scenery and some I'd visited watching Woody Allen's Match Point. A tour-de-force!!!!! 👏 🎾 🏭
Thanks for another great tour AK. I visited Canary Wharfe in mid November to meet with my daughter whoo works for KPMG there. In the summer the skating rink is removed to reveal a park where they erect huge TV screens so people can have lunch relaxing on the grass watching the Wimbledon tennis tournament, cricket or other sports. I was impressed with Canary Wharfe too. Hope you have or did have a safe and smooth flight back to New York. Please visit us here in Old Blighty again sometime, your tours are awesome. The Royal Botanical Gardens at Kew (commonly referred to simply as Kew Gardens) are pretty stunning, as is Hampton Court Palace to name but a few.
I love London! It's so modern there. Where you were was so stylish architecturly and modern, very pleasant in the eyes. I loved this tour AK! I would definitely visit there if I were to go to London! Thanks for sharing this very informative tour 😁 🎄
Since I commented on your Fortnum & Mason video that it reminded me of going there on my first trip to London 1985, I'll chime in here about my second trip in 1993. I had read about Canary Wharf so took a train out to see it. While the initial few skyscrapers had been built, a lot of the lower rise construction to the west had been suspended for years due to the early '90s recession, so it was a sort of semi-ghost town vibe. I visited it again in 1999. Actually went out to the Greenwich Observatory, then walked the pedestrian tunnel under the Thames to the Isle of Dogs (a cool trip if you haven't done it yet). The Wharf was much more built up and alive by then, but not nearly as much as now, obviously!
Canary wharf 'new' financial centre, was developed over span of 3 to 4 decade....it's making a striking impressions. Many prestigious world class companies have their presence here....very modern and luxurious setting...a bit of quiet amidst working day...weather was not kind enough, this is autumn! AK really walked through this places...he must be tired...thanks AK for bringing us along this modern part of London...🎉😂😅
Looks quite nice financial district.Canada Place looks great with those christmas decorations 2:51 🎄Beautiful christmas tree at 4:05 overall great looking place ,nice restaurants and stores😎I’m impressed 🙂Thank you for sharing this enjoyable walk A K🙂👍!!!
Well over 100,000 people work in over 16,000,000sqft at CW. There haves to be good facilities - transport, catering, retailing etc to attract those people and their employers.
I think the DLR contributes to that a lot. Elevated rail going between skyscrapers is very much a Chicago thing. It’s more common in most cities to run the trains underground in the city center and leave above ground for the outer regions. It also reminds me a bit of Miami, which also has elevated trains in the downtown.
Random trivia: This used to be a wasteland/development plot about 40-50 years ago. It then boomed with skyscrapers and offices in the early 20th century and a lot of the famous banks and financial companies decided to settle here. It's mainly a commercial area for businesses, although there are a few new apartments in the surrounding areas which cost a fortune to rent or buy.
It wasnt. It was a huge dock that they have gradually filled in. All the many bits of water in the video are the dock including the slippery bridge part.
Though u said it is similar to New York and Downtown Toronto it is far cleaner than both and definitely has more green areas and trees directly on the streets even though a financial district. It is just better
"Wow, what an incredible virtual tour of London's Second Financial District! 🏙 This video is an absolute feast for the senses, offering a front-row seat to the dynamic energy and architectural marvels that define this bustling financial hub.

You're welcome, I really enjoyed my time in Canary Wharf and seeing all the skyscrapers
Reminds me of downtown/central Chicago (rail bridge, water and skyscrapers)

Much appreciated, Canary Wharf is a nice area and it's good to know about the transformation in the summer!

Thanks for all the info! It sounds like much has changed!
I am British and didnt realise there was that large covered mall under the buildings in Canary Wharf, very reminiscent of Osaka, Tokyo and Toronto.

I wanna visit London so badly, I don't know when it it'll happen but it should in the near future.
Best part of London, lovely walk thank you.
Great stuff! It's Beautiful. Thanks for sharing.
If you had gone a short distance further you would have come to the thames with a fabulous view upriver to the skyscrapers of central london.
Those doggies were cute. :) ❤
I now know why this is called the “Isle of Dogs.” “Of course Isle of Dogs, dogs are great! Why wouldn’t I love them!”
@@jasonlescalleet5611 I read some years ago why they call it that but I can’t remember. I’ll have to look it up again

That's good to know!
Excellent video thanks
The New York of London
The isle of dogs. lol. I’ve always liked that name, I thought it was quirky , cute and catchy.
It's a quirky name for sure!
Henry the Eight kept his hunting dogs there
👌🏻 great job
Thank you!
Reminded me of Chicago a lil bit😅😊
It really does!

CW was just docks in the 80s. Everything by London standards is very recent.
Notice how people tend to walk on the left side similar to the way they drive? Haha it’s strange when you see it for the first time

How did they come up with the name "Canary Wharf"?
It was named after the Canary Islands.
@@ActionKid Ah, OK. Makes sense. Thank you, AK. Cheers! :)
Where the ships came from with bananas.
@@mmccartney6579And I think “canary” shares the same root as “canine”: a link to the Isle of Dogs, perhaps?

Where is the third Financial District? And the 4th and the 5th?
3. Financial Quarter, Leeds
4. International Financial Services District, Glasgow.
Third Financial District is Mayfair. That’s where all the Hedge Funds are based 💰
I'm not sure
@@ActionKid just joking.....
It’s Nine Elms and Stratford
2:23 complete and utter height mog, bros a 4/10 in face but still gets the girl
I personally find Canary Wharf completely soulless
I can see why, it's a lot of tall buildings and not much of a residential community.
I use to work there. It can be but at the same time, in the 80's it was a wasteland so I think it's transformed quite nicely tbh
Huge transformation from what it was before.
