I was willing to pay for the premiere pass last year just to skip the lines, but they got rid of premiere and instead charged everyone $150. Honestly as someone who goes to cons for industry guests, Anime Expo is still the number one choice as I have a high chance of meeting Japanese industry there than in Japan. However, I agree overcrowding is an issue, but it's been an issue for over 5 years now.

I agree that AX is the best place to network but everyone wants to do that

Imagined wearing a cosplay with a lot of layers and waiting in the line for hours. Same with the anime convention in Singapore here after the pandemic but recently starting to drop off in number since economy starting to recover. And the convention tickets price keep going up each year.

been to every AX since 2010 and saw quite a bit of changes. thing is, for every issue SPJA tries to solve another one pops up. example, people used to line up in the sun to pick up their badge at the con, now they mail them out, but now all those people that used to line up outside the con are now lining up inside the con for the hall to open. now people in social media go haywire about it being some type of hazard but its not at all that way once those halls open.
while the con seems overcrowded, i wouldnt say its "bigger" than SDCC. SDCC estimate their attendees by how many badges they sold while AX is measured by turnstile, so while SDCC reports 130k attendees SPJA reports 300k+ turnstile but last reports counted they had about just over 100k unique attendees for the highest count of the day. sounds like a nitpick but the overcrowding implication, while parts are true with fire marshals intervening, its not at its where i've seen some people tend to claim.
that said, i do wonder if SPJA are increasing prices across the board just so they can go back to anahiem convention and use up all of that space (they only used a part of that space last time they held AX there last i've heard from past attendees) and any sort of "overcrowding" will be next to impossible there. at least, i hope thats what they're planning but we'll see.

Man you'd think that with badge prices going higher you'd expect attendance to go less and less, sucks that it doesn't happen. 2019 was my last AX and although I constantly get a desire to go I can't because of work and a part of me feels happy not dealing with all the crap. I definitely do think they should cap the amount to make it better sad to say just for the reasons you've said. Anyway off-topic but how is LACC compared to AX, do they have an attendance cap and badge deadline or do they suffer from the same problems as AX as well?

Yeah I feel the same I still go because at this point it’s like war lol but LACC honestly has been growing a lot every year but SDCC is comparable imo but they do cap the sales

my first comicon was in 2019- poorly run. they asked the patrons to help, no where to sit, no food trucks until 1pm, no water available, and on the hottest day of july, of 2019...
also, several people had to be taken to the hospital for heat stroke, and i didn't have a car, and they said there was shuttles available. they only had hot school buses taking patrons from 1 part of 1 hotel, to another part of another part of another hotel, not in walking distance.
they also said you could drive from restuarant to resturant, but i had no car, and none were in walking distance in hot weather.
later that night, complaints were piling up. a lot of people were saying the same thing.

2019 was probably the worst year for cons
