I've read the Dune series three times now, and as much as I loved the first book, I will have to warn, the ongoing series itself doesn't feel to equal to the first book. Heretics and Chapterhouse in particular felt like a slog. Not that there aren’t great moments, given the era it was written in. As for series: Stormlight & Mistborn Era 3: The Ghostbloods (whenever that will be), Song of Ice of Fire, Kingkiller Chronicles, Gentleman Bastards. Just started Suneater. I am rereading the Realm of the Elderlings. And finishing off the Dark Tower series books 5-7 (just finished rereading 1-4). I'll probably continue the Dresden Files--finished Deadbeat a few weeks back.
The Gentleman Bastards series really popped off for me with The Lies of Locke Lamora. Have you read and Ryan Cahill? That is a series I really am tempted to start.

And the Green Bone saga is amazing! I have Vicious but I haven't read it yet. And I need to give Red Rising another try. I couldn't get into the writing.
Not a fan of long series myself, but love your enthusiasm. I will not be continuing Stormlight Archive after having read the first four books. Just too long and repetitive for me.
Off topic but im currently reading before they are hanged (second book of the first law trilogy) and I saw it on your shelf. Was wondering what are ur thought on the trilogy and on the series as a whole. Also I have a suggestion of a series that you might like. Its called the realm of the elderlings. Its basically fantasy version of sun eater. Its a first person slow burner where we see the growth of the main character throughout his journey. Beware though its really slow and the author takes her time building up the world and her characters.

I can only read one series at a time and I’m currently reading Rhythm of War (about halfway through and OMG the tension)! I plan to start Rage of Dragons next and then Mistborn Era 2 (and then I’ll dabble in some standalones)
Hey Smitty... You are missing a great series from Bethany Jacobs...the 1st book is These Burning Stars (chef's kiss...Six is a bad mother- shut your mouth!) and the 2nd book due out October 2024 is titled On Vicious Worlds. I will drop everything to read this series!!!!! This author is new and is exceptional!!!!! The characters are folks of color at least in my mind they are 😉. Check it out!
Some great series on that list. For me: *Fantasy* Dandelion Dynasty / Ken Liu - 1 book left Discworld City Watch / Terry Pratchett - 7 books left Malazan Book of the Fallen / Steven Erikson (re-read) - 9 books left Memory Sorrow & Thorn / Tad Williams - 2 books left Realm of the Elderlings / Robin Hobb - 2 books left Second Apocalypse / R Scott Bakker (re-read) - 3 books left Wars of Light & Shadow / Janny Wurts - 9 books left Wheel of Time / Robert Jordan - 13 books left *Historical-Fiction* The Last Kingdom / Bernard Cornwell - 10 books left *Sci-Fi* Sun Eater / Christopher Ruocchio - Only read 1 book *Western* Lonesome Dove / Larry McMurtry - 3 book left
I’m still trying to get through Game Of Thrones. I have 10 chapters left. I honestly don’t think he will finish writing the series though. People have been waiting like 11 plus years for him to finish The Winds of Winter.
OMG! Let’s Go Rangers! A fantasy booktuber who loves my blueshirts! I just subbed! I am in the middle of Tawny Man, the Hanuvar Chronicles, The Saratine Mosaic, the Last War, and the Bound & the Broken. Also the better alternative to Suneater which I DNF’d, Deathstalker! Hunger of the Gods is even better than Shadow of the Gods!!
I'm reading a lot of older SF and fantasy right now. Reading A Princess of Mars from Edgar Rice Burroughs' "Barsoom" series, The Elric Saga by Michael Moorcock, and I'm starting The Sword of Shannara by Terry Brooks sometime next month.
I agree about The Fifth Season. I also need to finish the rest of the series 😩. This was also a reminder that I need to get Brandon Sanderson off of my TBR. Also, Child of Blood and Bone started off so strong, but I didn't love the second book. I'm going to read the third one just to see how it all ends, but I'm nervous...
I thought about making 2025 a year to get caught up on the "big series", specially Wheel of Time, Malazan, ASoIaF, and now Sun Eater. Not sure if I'd get burnt out though.
I'm currently in the middle of...14 series?! I didn't think I had a problem, but maybe I do.. The letter grade is my priority to finish/continue the series not necessarily how much I enjoyed the books I've read (like Red Rising. One of my favorite series but I like how book three wrapped up so I'm not in a hurry) A+: The Hierarchy: can't wait for the 2nd book A+: Dungeon Crawler Carl: On book 5 and it's just as good if not better than the previous 4. This series is just candy, I love it. I feel like I could always be listening to one and never get bored. It scratches my video game and reading itch at the same time. Had to actively take a break so I could have something easy to go to to get out of a potential reading slump later and it worked A: The Sun Eater Series: Just started the second book. Without the hype I've heard it'd probably only be a B. A: Stormlight Archives: Waiting for Wind and Truth. For some reason when I'm not in the series my anticipation for next book isn't very high. As soon as I start reading the next one though, I'm hooked B+: Bloodsworn Saga: Waiting for book 3. I LOVED Shadow, but Hunger was just ok to me so it dropped down to the B's B: Harry Potter: on book 4 but not started yet B: The Bill Hodges Series. Most definitely will finish, but not in a hurry C: Red Rising: on book 4 but not started yet. I wish I was more excited but I've heard book 4 is just ok so it's been a year since I finished book 3 and I still haven't started. Read the first 3 in one week. C: The Green Bone Saga: Finished the first and not in a hurry for the next. Didn't capture me, unfortunately C: The Locked Tomb: Read the first book Gideon the Ninth. Really like it, but not sure I crave more of that world than I got so unsure if I'll continue C: Star Wars Jedi Apprentice: on book 5 but haven't started yet (rereading for childhood nostalgia) D+: The Kingkiller Chronicles: I read The Name of the Wind and LOVED it, but not in a hurry to finish because is he ever gonna write book 3? Doubtful lol F: Ender's Saga: Read book 1 but won't continue F: Wayward Pines: Read book one and probably won't continue; it was good but didn't capture me
Love your videos. New fan here. I am rereading STORMLIGHT in anticipation of the new book (in audiobook format this time which has been interesting). I’m also currently (slowly) reading all of Agatha Christie’s books in order. Next up for me is Malazan and Suneater. Bloodsworn is high up my list.
Dungeon Crawler Carl by Matt Dinniman - Based on some of the things you’ve mentioned -characters, compulsive reads, you should check this series out. The first book bumped Project Hail Mary down a notch in my list of favorites. The synopsis sounds corny, but it pulls people in quickly, and a few weeks later you’ll have burned through the whole thing. Officially it’s ’litrpg’ but has fantasy and sci-fi ish elements. I’d encourage you to give it a shot. It’s 6 of 10 books with #7 by December), released since 2020 as an online series, then indie paperback on Amazon, was recently picked up by Ace for mass market publication this year, and also announced that has been picked up for video production in collaboration with Seth Macfarlane. Thanks for your videos, I’ve largely found myself agreeing with your comments about many books, and have added several to my TBR list based on your suggestions.
Also in the middle of GOT and thinking if i should continue the villains trilogy. Arc of Scythe is my all time fave! What a great trilogy and the companion short story book called Gleanings is also a treat.
Currently Stormlight Archive and The First Law World are the only series I'm reading. About 50% thru Rhythm of War and going to start Best Served Cold (arrived yesterday). The Bloodsworn Series will come soon. My reading has dipped just a bit due to other things taking priority (but that hasn't stopped me from buying books apparently), but I imagine October will pick it up for me.
A lot of series in there I'm interested in! I've read all of A Song of Ice and Fire (finished A Dance with Dragons a few months ago), and and now back to Wheel of Time (on book 5). With this one, after having taken a break following book 2 to read Mistborn Era 1 and other books, as of now it is the only series I'm reading until I'm finished. Stormlight Archive is my next priority though, since I have all of the books!
Hypothesis: YA novels of the last ten to twenty years that are primarily fantasy with little or no romance (like the Hunger Games) are less likely to disappoint fantasy fans compared to YA romance-first-with-some-fae novels (the Twilights). Laini Taylor's Daughter of Smoke and Bone trilogy has both fantasy and romance (but in a modern day setting with flashbacks to older times) but does not read like it's for a highschool audience.
As a library reader who's waiting on books I feel the pain of having multiple series open. The one series I'm hyped on is The Poppy War by RF Kuang (who also wrote Babel). Book 1 was so good for me and I'm on hold for book 2.
With so many options out there, I hesitate to pick up a book if the series isn’t finished. I think my biggest “fear” is simply forgetting what happened previously or losing that connection that made me love the series to begin with. How do you “jump back in”? Do you read the previous book again or watch YT recap videos?
Nice man, you sold me on rage of dragons will check that out. Good call getting back to greenbone when you can. I liked jade city, but by the end of jade legacy i realized its one of my all time fav series. maybe #2 just behind first law
in the middle of a song of ice n fire, bout 2 finish clash of kings yessir , finna do the stormlight books next hyped asf fr but also thinkin of doin a flintlock fantasy like powder mage also
Currently only have one book left in Stormlight Archive and Dungeon Crawler Carl (at least until the next books in those series drop). I’m one book and one novella into the Suneater series. I’m also one book into the First Law Trilogy! I’m usually pretty good about finishing series I start, but I started juggling pretty heavily last month😅😂
It’s a really fun time, I’d definitely recommend. One of the few series I’d say the audiobook truly elevates the material as well. Jeff Hayes is phenomenal.
I just finished my second read of the Scythe series and it’s so good. It was one of the series that got me back into reading. I’m currently in the middle of reading the Mistborn series (book 2), Red Rising (book 5), Death Tax (Book 4) and Forth Wing (Book 3 soon). I like to finish a series once I start it. I tend to read a book or two in the series and hop over to a standalone before jumping back to the series. I recommend looking at Ready Player One (and Two). Such great Sci-Fi books. Death Tax series is underrated and is coming from a newer author that has created such a fun world. And for YA style reads I enjoyed Steelheart by Brandon Sanderson.
@@Smitty1423 it's written by Andrew Givler who has a channel here on TH-cam. He has a booktube channel as well as a video game channel for younger audience called "Sigils". It's cool to hear an author talk about their own book on TH-cam!

my highest priority atm is The Bloodsworn Trilogy!!! i am SO PUMPED for The Fury Of The Gods!!
@@briggyswigs it’s soooo good can’t wait to read Hunger than go to Fury
@@Smitty1423i am so so excited!!!
From a fellow serial series starter, you should check out Empire of the Wolf trilogy by Richard Swan.
I’ll have to look into it!
I can only read one series at a time and I’m currently reading Rhythm of War (about halfway through and OMG the tension)! I plan to start Rage of Dragons next and then Mistborn Era 2 (and then I’ll dabble in some standalones)
Rhythm of War is soooo good and Rage of Dragons and Mistborn are 2 of my favorites
The scythe trilogy has a book called gleanings and it’s a lot of short stories from that world
I gotta check it out
Age of madness > First Law. Must read
Have to check it out!
Thanks for adding this to my list!
I second this! Absolutely love These Burning Stars, favorite book I have read this year!
Some great series on that list.

Damn idk if I should thank you for taking the time to write this up or not because now I have some new series to look into lmao
@@Smitty1423 it's a blessing and a curse haha
I definitely think you'd vibe with some of these, especially Robin Hobb.
I’m still trying to get through Game Of Thrones. I have 10 chapters left. I honestly don’t think he will finish writing the series though. People have been waiting like 11 plus years for him to finish The Winds of Winter.
I am a serial series starter too 😅
Haha Yepp!
Nice list and go Rangers!
Another booktuber confirming why I feel like Will of The Many needs to be my next read... just a little unsure about the first person pov
Yeah you should def check it out
I DNF this book :( I felt like the author could have cut out a good fourth of the book and nothing would be lost. Just took too long to take off
@@phyziks09interesting, I felt hooked early on just by the idea of Will
I'm reading a lot of older SF and fantasy right now. Reading A Princess of Mars from Edgar Rice Burroughs' "Barsoom" series, The Elric Saga by Michael Moorcock, and I'm starting The Sword of Shannara by Terry Brooks sometime next month.
That’s fire!
Haha Yepp def gotta check out Sanderson but also kicking myself for not continue the broken earth trilogy sooner
I thought about making 2025 a year to get caught up on the "big series", specially Wheel of Time, Malazan, ASoIaF, and now Sun Eater. Not sure if I'd get burnt out though.
I have faith in you!
I'm currently in the middle of...14 series?! I didn't think I had a problem, but maybe I do..
The letter grade is my priority to finish/continue the series not necessarily how much I enjoyed the books I've read (like Red Rising. One of my favorite series but I like how book three wrapped up so I'm not in a hurry)
A+: The Hierarchy: can't wait for the 2nd book
A+: Dungeon Crawler Carl: On book 5 and it's just as good if not better than the previous 4. This series is just candy, I love it. I feel like I could always be listening to one and never get bored. It scratches my video game and reading itch at the same time. Had to actively take a break so I could have something easy to go to to get out of a potential reading slump later and it worked
A: The Sun Eater Series: Just started the second book. Without the hype I've heard it'd probably only be a B.
A: Stormlight Archives: Waiting for Wind and Truth. For some reason when I'm not in the series my anticipation for next book isn't very high. As soon as I start reading the next one though, I'm hooked
B+: Bloodsworn Saga: Waiting for book 3. I LOVED Shadow, but Hunger was just ok to me so it dropped down to the B's
B: Harry Potter: on book 4 but not started yet
B: The Bill Hodges Series. Most definitely will finish, but not in a hurry
C: Red Rising: on book 4 but not started yet. I wish I was more excited but I've heard book 4 is just ok so it's been a year since I finished book 3 and I still haven't started. Read the first 3 in one week.
C: The Green Bone Saga: Finished the first and not in a hurry for the next. Didn't capture me, unfortunately
C: The Locked Tomb: Read the first book Gideon the Ninth. Really like it, but not sure I crave more of that world than I got so unsure if I'll continue
C: Star Wars Jedi Apprentice: on book 5 but haven't started yet (rereading for childhood nostalgia)
D+: The Kingkiller Chronicles: I read The Name of the Wind and LOVED it, but not in a hurry to finish because is he ever gonna write book 3? Doubtful lol
F: Ender's Saga: Read book 1 but won't continue
F: Wayward Pines: Read book one and probably won't continue; it was good but didn't capture me
Ahh thanks for ranking them this is gold
Just wanted to say that I discovered your channel some months ago and I love your content, keep up the good work :)
Greetings from Spain
Ahh let’s go thank you! I need to get to Spain at some point
Good stuff. You gotta get into First Law.
Word!
Sun Eater Gang
Gang gang
Love your videos. New fan here. I am rereading STORMLIGHT in anticipation of the new book (in audiobook format this time which has been interesting). I’m also currently (slowly) reading all of Agatha Christie’s books in order. Next up for me is Malazan and Suneater. Bloodsworn is high up my list.
You got a good list coming up!
Does Sun Eater get better? I'm about 50% through book one and it's pretty slow. I'm interested but man, the pace is killing me.
Yeah book one is a lot of setup it really takes off in book 2 but you have to get through book 1
Nice Rangers jersey at least its not the Islanders. Go Bruins.
Haha right!
@@KingMooCow I’m down to read it for sure it’s been on my list since everyone keeps recommending it to me!
I also prefer series to standalone. I really like the ones you mentioned, nearly all of them are new to me and I’m excited to try something new!
@@TashaxMack so dope let me know how it works out for you!
Also in the middle of GOT and thinking if i should continue the villains trilogy. Arc of Scythe is my all time fave! What a great trilogy and the companion short story book called Gleanings is also a treat.
Can’t wait to get through Scythe!
@@grabsgranite3188 nice! Here is to an absolutely incredible October
Nice! You’ll have books/series to keep you occupied for awhile!
I finished the first book of Gideon the ninth and audible offered me a refund because of my review.
Omg lmaoo
Hypothesis: YA novels of the last ten to twenty years that are primarily fantasy with little or no romance (like the Hunger Games) are less likely to disappoint fantasy fans compared to YA romance-first-with-some-fae novels (the Twilights). Laini Taylor's Daughter of Smoke and Bone trilogy has both fantasy and romance (but in a modern day setting with flashbacks to older times) but does not read like it's for a highschool audience.
Very interesting
As a library reader who's waiting on books I feel the pain of having multiple series open.
The one series I'm hyped on is The Poppy War by RF Kuang (who also wrote Babel). Book 1 was so good for me and I'm on hold for book 2.
Dope love the library!
With so many options out there, I hesitate to pick up a book if the series isn’t finished. I think my biggest “fear” is simply forgetting what happened previously or losing that connection that made me love the series to begin with. How do you “jump back in”? Do you read the previous book again or watch YT recap videos?
Depending on how long ago I read it but I usually just jump back in because I may not remember much in real life but I remember stories
Nice man, you sold me on rage of dragons will check that out. Good call getting back to greenbone when you can. I liked jade city, but by the end of jade legacy i realized its one of my all time fav series. maybe #2 just behind first law
Ahh can’t wait!
Wow, over 13k followers already? I been watching since 1k
Well i guess its because you have a swag, ranger shirt and looking sexy AF
Yeah it’s been a wild ride!
I think I'ma graduate college before finishing the stormlight archive and I'm just starting my third year 😅
Lmaoo this is too funny
in the middle of a song of ice n fire, bout 2 finish clash of kings yessir , finna do the stormlight books next hyped asf fr but also thinkin of doin a flintlock fantasy like powder mage also
So dope
You should make a vlog finishing the series you’re in the middle of!
Not a bad idea!
That thumbnail is the look of a man drowning, lol. Throw him a liferaft of the next book in the series!
😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
i would not have guessed you as a 4th wing reader🤔
Yeah I picked it up randomly last year and surprisingly enjoyed it. Not the sequel so much tho
same lol
What did you think of Kingdoms of Death? :)
Thought it was incredible…dark but incredible
are you planning on diving into the realm or the elderlings ?!
At some point!
Same here, so now I don't feel weird reading 4 series.
Haha you shouldn’t!
Typical Smitty banger 🤞
We here!
Just getting back into reading what fantasy book/series would you suggest reading first
Mistborn!
@@Smitty1423 👍
Currently only have one book left in Stormlight Archive and Dungeon Crawler Carl (at least until the next books in those series drop). I’m one book and one novella into the Suneater series. I’m also one book into the First Law Trilogy! I’m usually pretty good about finishing series I start, but I started juggling pretty heavily last month😅😂
I gotta check out Dungeon Crawler Carl
Loved Ready Player One! Will look into the Death Tax series
@@Smitty1423 it's written by Andrew Givler who has a channel here on TH-cam. He has a booktube channel as well as a video game channel for younger audience called "Sigils". It's cool to hear an author talk about their own book on TH-cam!
Thank you for the suggestions i have a long list now.
I just finished James Islingtons The Licanius Trilogy. It has become my favorite fantasy series! Highly recommend it since you love the The will of the many which i am going to be getting today!
@@mrgoodbar2592 will have to get to it!
@Smitty1423 I will say that the first couple of chapters in the first book are a little slow but it ramps up in pace pretty good after that.
You read series like I watch anime 😂 too many to keep up with lol
😭😭😭 too funny
I love series! I’m always in the middle of several, lol. Right now I’m working through:
The Faithful and the Fallen, by John Gwynne
Shadowmarch, by Tad Williams
Beartown series, by Fredrik Backman
The Three-Body Problem trilogy, by Cixin Liu
Harry Potter.
And I’ve got some standalones going on in between. 😁 I love that I will never run out of books!
Same! Like will never run out!
Curious what your thoughts are on The Wheel of Time series? I just started it!
Also yay fellow hockey fan!🎉
@@abbywhitmire4786 haven’t checked it out yet!
My main focus currently is the Sun Eater series - I've just started Kingdoms of Death and ooh boy I'm loving it!
When I'm caught up my plan is (in order):
Bloodsworn Saga
Stormlight Archive book 5
Age of Madness Trilogy
Mistborn Era 2
Hyperion book 3 & 4
And Im reading Beserk when i dont feel like reading lots of words 😁
Kingdoms of Death goes so crazy it’s absolutely insane
I’m obsessed with Fourth Wing !!! I already pre ordered the 3rd book ! January can’t come fast enough.
