But as the chips are down Mayweathet is undefeated in his pro carear , not to slight Ray he is a great Champ but truly Mayweathet JR deserved to be recognize as a greater Champ.
Do you know that Leonard beat his father, Sr? I strongly feel Leonard would have been too big for Jr and if he, Jr, ever tried to open up on Leonard, he'd risked being knocked out. Jr would have been forced to fight, and then we'd see what kind of fighter he truly was!
I wish people would stop doing this... Comparing the old era with the new era. We would never know..just a lot of opinions..who owned there era...that the best we could do....
I don't think Floyd would do to well against someone who could match his speed but with much greater reach and power. I'd make Leonard a bout a 2-1 favorite over Floyd. Against Thomas Hearns I wouldn't see any potential path to victory for Mayweather. Hearns could match Floyd's speed, he has twice the reach, and 10 times the power. Hearns would be a nightmare matchup just like he was against Duran and Pipino Cuevas. Hearns destroyed them little buggers with no reach.
some of you beloved mayweather fans wake the fuc up smell the coffee floyd was ok can i said good boxer i give him that but come to really fighting i mean taken blows head up knock down get up to win like a real great fighter does e.t.c. others words what has he done to call himself greatest ever please never been in a real fight i mean real fight don t allow his self to be tested maybe chop chop corley and that was nothin
Too much fan fair and coverage for Leonard on his first fight. Not saying he wasn't a great fighter .. he certainly was ... (not at this time he wasn't though). Once he hit the pros the sport / media / country made his path to a belt open .. and widely covered. Kind of over-kill so early for a guy on his very first fight IMO. Other fighters with comparable skills had nothing of the sort. For example .. Marvin Hagler made $50 (as opposed to $38,000) his first pro bout (supposedly) and Hagler had basically 50 (49) fights before he even got a title shot (because he was being ducked). Not taking away anything that Leonard did not earn .. but I can certainly understand the frustration many other fighters had over Leonards red carpet walk in boxing all through his career. Not saying Leonard did not deserve more of all that than most fighters .. he did .. I'm saying it was simply far too much.
Not really he was one of the most storied American amateurs ever. In a time where the amateur ranks were respected and full of fans. He was already considered a great fighter
@@itsthehouse8462 I know all that .. I lived during that time. However he got like 10K - 50K his first fight (various reports) and others got $50 - 500 dollars. Sure he was so much better than the rest .. but not so much better than all of them and to that point. Leonard got people to invest in him as a pro (boxer / entrepreneur) and once his career gained ground he quickly paid them off (back). He was perhaps the original of this type of thing and for that I must take my hat off to him. Othwerwise .. this was how it basically went down ... America was looking for another 'darling' because Ali was wanning (starting to) at that point. They adopted him and hence he got more cash (he def deserved more ... but not like THAT much more and all kinds of TV as someone with no belt) than he deserved in his first 20 fights IMO. He was a great fighter and deserved the millions he got later but 10-20K then is like an easy 40K now. Hard to imagine anyone ...even a gold medal winner deserving of TV and that kind of cash in their first few fights no matter who they are (IMO) because of the simple fact that until they get to become a champ or high up in the division they are all basically the same status .. Personally I think it was too lopsided on his behalf before he won a belt He deserved the riches he got later IMO but not the money he got money immediately IMO (again only because so many other didnt get any where near a tenth of that (and they did so with no coverage). He didn't even plan on turning Pro initially after 76.
These guys are tiny in real life, I almost got into a fist fight with Leonard back in the day bc he thought I cut him off on 495 and he signaled for me too pull over so I did... This was a 140 lb bout. If Ray Leonard had come around ten years after this, he would have fought a dozen bouts and won the 140 lb title first.
Leonard won the fight outright, but Vega stood his ground, took many shots that would have put a fighter down, hats off to him.Tough as they come.
The best fighter of all times Sugar Ray Leonard
Met Ray in Birmingham England 3 weeks ago we talked about his idol Bruce Lee
