They went to Japan to film the MV. It’s not his friends dying but he finally realizes he already died.
It is not only a song for about suicide, but should be about reincarnation. The main character, the boy, he chose to suicide….because of his girlfriend who died as well because of some reasons. To look for the atman of his girlfriend, he chose to follow the way of her. But he cannot found her even his soul is already in the way as the lyrics mentioned some places in Japan. Those places they planned to visit together but they finally cannot make it. 不生不滅、徘徊mean his atman repeated again and again in loneliness since he cannot meet her atman in the unknown spiritual world. Finally, he understood the truth of life. The background music is a Buddist song Da Bei Zhou “the Greatest compassion Mantra” which is to help every sentient on earth to achieve liberation from suffering and samsara- the process of death and rebirth.

In this song , he is doing what he has planned with his girl friend when she is still alive. He dies also but still cannot meet her.

it’s about suicide. It’s not really a breakup song. The name is from a poem , “when you reach the end of a river, sit and watch the cloud rise” ,by Wang Wei.
