  • Part 3 of 3, The secrets behind creating the fabled flex tail or “Squid Tail” are exposed for the first time on YT in this how-to series. Ben from Mystic Glassing demonstrates the Pro tips and techniques behind getting that translucent flexible tail on your next build!
    These tails can be any shape or size and any degree of stiffness. Stiffness is determined by the number of glass layers and overall length of the tail.
    This PUPE build includes custom glass-on quad fins, resin splash tint with cut laps, resin pin lines and, cork fish scale deck grip, and of course the deluxe Squid Tail!
    Thanks for tuning in and watch out for part 2 where the “Deaf Ear, Squid Tail Deluxe” is completed!
    YEEW!

    It does not bleed thru when we do pin lines over the lamination surface?

    • @cantigasurfco.8549
      @cantigasurfco.8549  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It does unless you slap on a quick lick of filler and flush it down like i do. If you pinline directly on the textured surface of the cloth it will make an ungodly mess😄

    I really like your work and your videos.
    With the cork cover, you really don't need to put wax on top?

      Gday Mate, thanks for the kind words! The cork feels really nice and grips well if you keep it roughed up with course sand paper but it obviously doesnt have any "tack" like wax. Its better for cruisier shapes like mals and fish but wax is probably better on high performance boards where super grip is essential. Also, the cork is very harsh on the skin (knees, etc) so best on boards in cold waters where you wear a wetsuit. Stay salty mate🤙🏽

      @@cantigasurfco.8549 Thanks for your advice.
      On your boards the cork looks very nice.
      Health and good waves

    It looks amazing! Such a great craft and video editing too! Did the board go to the water already? How does that flex tail performs?

    I've never heard of using a squeegee with a "filler" coat before a full hot coat, but if it takes care of pinholes I'll definitely try that out! What is meant by the "filler" tho, is it the same mixture as regular hot coat?

    • @cantigasurfco.8549
      @cantigasurfco.8549  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Gday Sean, yep, it is the same. Here in Australia we call a "hot-coat" a "filler-coat" but they are the same thing. For the videos i decided to refer to the resin used as "filler" and the action/procedure as "hot-coat"... maybe i need to rethink it haha, its probably confusing too many peeps
      And yeah, if you squeege a little filler resin into the lam before you hot-coat it fills all the little nooks and crannies in the textured cloth surface that can trap a bubble👍🏼👍🏼
