My Canon T90, a camera from 1986, still nails every exposure. And since it has a big, comfortable body to hold, it allows me to get so many shots in low light without having to use a tripod.
Loved this! I have to agree there is too much obsessing over the glass. Another reason camera matters so much for film is that they are all old. You will be lucky to get one with everything working as it is supposed to. So newer the old camera the better it would be. I had to run through bodies to get choice of reliable cameras.
Unique! When I was a gaffer it always made me really nervous when the DP would ask me for his stop! I had a basic Sekonic meter with a spot attachment and I guess it was decent enough, but I never wanted to be responsible for doing the DP's job for him.
The Canon Rebel film cameras are dirt cheap and are also pretty good metering wise. Shutter speed up to 2000 on mine. T70, T80 meter well also. Those odd looking lenses for the T80 are sharp.

Another good point 👌 none of my older cameras worked 100% as they should. Always some quirk or function that doesn’t work.
