GREAT , exact info ! Always makes my day --- Thanks ! Mtn Mel , Ret USN SERE here. In 1968, I saw our Negritio P.I. jungle Troopers use same style spear, made of bamboo , with (1) tip. During my duty there 75- 78 , I updated them with sm. spring steel rode and (3) point tips - Ha, they called it their " Automatic Model ! Later we made take down models from gun cleaning rods - for our Pilots kits. Really love your info - style - high interest and how STRONG you are ! Mel Deweese, W. Co. tipi camp .
We used a flat waxed cord, but any thin strong cord would work. It should be wrapped tight in four or five places so the prongs don't slide. When we start each wrap we leave a length hanging loose so we have something to tie off to after wrapping. Other than that we didn't need to use any special tying techniques. Just wrap it very tight with a small thin cord in multiple places and it should be good to go.
Huge suckers in my neck of the woods….sw New Mexico Gila River caught many back in the day with rod and reel with worms or grass hoppers swatted on the bank with switches…..wow really brings back the memories..thanks
Almost forgot, also used hellgrammites which are nymph stage I believe dragon flys….found under rocks in the shallows….but watch out cause they have mean jaw pinchers…. Lol
This channel is severely underrated.
