This Video is One for the Archives❣️ how very fortunate we all are, Brian, that you shared your family story with us. I am very touched and honored do you learn your family‘s history and all that does is make me admire you and your brother and your son that much more for hanging on to the farm, especially this year that’s been so difficult without rain and that you went out and harvested and bailed the hay & were so grateful for every single bell knowing it would help to get you through the winter. It puts a whole different light on what farming really means to why you do what you do and everything you do becomes so important in the success of the farm. I am just overwhelmed and I think partly it’s because my family we’re farmers who came from England with Percheron horses and Morgan horses and apple seedlings, Who is my grandfather knowing that those items would help to build and pay for his farm and he built 10 farms in Central Iowa they were quite large. Anyway my Parents are Both gone, and my Grandparents are gone, & my wonderful Great- Grandpa & Grandma just started it all are gone but the hard-working, where are you teaching I love goes beyond the land I have learned. We are no 4+ generations past my parents which means seven generations of the man who came to America and believed in the farming life and we were so fortunate to have his vision and his passion for the land, as well as many years of joy on that farm. It was a sad day 20 years ago when my Grandfather, at the age of 97 & My Grandma, age 95, Were moved into the nursing home After my lumberjack strong grandfather fell out of a tree trying to remove a branch growing over the corner of the house. It was my aunt who had no love for the land and executor of the estate, who sold Our Family Land & it was a Distressing day when that happened but even more so when we drove by and saw the new owner had bulldozed down every Cattlebarn and beautiful horse barns, every building on that land including grandma and grandpa‘s home until everything was flattened and it was if they never were there. Don’t ever let that happen to your farm ever. Don’t trust the people you think you can and let one person be in charge of something as important as your family land and farm. My dad was working for farms and raising a family of 12 children and building a life and a business on the side for himself in the future of his family and didn’t want any part of paperwork but he said later had he known what his Sister would do just for a bigger gold & diamond ring on her finger, He would have slowed down His Work, & Stopped to Do as His Father asked, “ pprotect the land from government and others (including family).” It is so wonderful to see brothers and father and son farming together and loving it. Many people don’t understand why we work as hard as we do but I have truly enjoyed watching Sonne Farms Family working together and loving what they do it’s such a successful rate even through droughts❣️❣️❣️❣️ Great song is a day by the way ... doesn’t get much better than CCR😇♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
Love watching the two of you work together and listening to your dad and the song of the day doesn't get much better than that especially when your my father passed away 5 years ago and didn't tell us he was sick and I was in the hospital when he passed away 5 years ago and a year later my mom passed away so it's just my brother and I. And you look back in life and you wonder why you fought all the time, which now you know it was stupid for doing it. I love this channel watching father and son working together farming together, I wish I could of had it that way.

Im getting my chance to do some of that this week with my grandchildren here visiting. Telling the old stories was just what you did in my day. We talked! Nobody buried in their phone or computer... we talked as our "entertainment." So what a good time to share right? Out feeding the cattle and pigs, messing with baby chickens and baby piglets... and sharing the old stories. What a great life. 🥰

I liked the family history of how your family came to South Dakota. My mom and her family settled in Platte and a cousin still farms the land. We owe a lot to all the farmers and hope and pray for good crops this year with all the up and down weather.

As you were going by the couple of trees near the beginning of the video, I actually wondered why those trees were there. Usually I figured that it could have been on old farmyard. . . . then you mentioned that you recalled an old house being there. 😊 Back in 2006, an uncle held his farm auction. In his closing remarks before they had a special event, he mentioned that he had taken over 5 farms in his day. Those farms were reverted back to parts of his fields. . . . then he showed a bit of emotion. . . . He said, "It is my turn now."
Cole shakes the nozzle and says, "can't waste a drop" as the last drop goes on the ground. lol I hope "you people" have a bountiful harvest starting in a few weeks.

Thanks Brian and Cole for all you do and helping folks like me relive my youth growing up on a farm (in Delaware) grandpa was a Holstein breeder and when he passed, dad took over the farm and we switched to grain farming. I'm relearning some things that I forgot (or too young to remember) about cattle farming

My pepe (french) grandfathers house was 200 years old and we still had the 5 foot saw blade. He told the story when the saw blade came off the saw and went up the 1/4 mile field and hit the side of the house and stuck in...What a story...

The family history was very interesting,nice to know how people got started in farming.I know why you wore gloves while cleaning the cow water,we had raised hogs for 30 years and remember how that awful smell would stay on your hands...almost as bad as stepping in rotten soybeans(nasty).Hard and dirty work being a farmer;but would not of traded it for the world......
I watch a few different farming YT channels that have cows. I know breed has something to do with it, but your cows are the healthiest and happiest looking cows out of all of them. Your cows are the only ones that come running when they see you. California likes to claim that happy cows come from California, but this channel proves they come from South Dakota.

I’ve watched you guys from time to time until a month or so ago. Just finished all of your past and current videos. The history about the Sonne’s was interesting. Went to school in NW Iowa and watching just brings back such found memories of my time out in the heartland. Been to SD, ND, MN, NE and KS
Brian, loved hearing your family history. I know a little about my husbands Sioux Falls family history. It’s his Mom’s side. She met his Dad when he was a Drill Sergeant in the Army. She worked in a drug store in Sioux Falls and she actually was a Rosie the Riveter during WW II in SD, he came in and one thing led to another and they married and he brought her to Abilene, Texas where my husband was born. One of her brothers worked for the railroad and her father was a barber in SF. We have all his old barber tools. I harassed my mother-in-law about her Yankee accent which several words she passed down to my husband. I’m like what did you say? He tells me…you know what I mean!! I should really be talking with this southern Texas accent!! When we went on vacation to Deadwood, Mt Rushmore and Custer State Park we planned to go back to Sioux Falls but never made it. My MIL always was just fascinated when I made iced tea. She wanted to know how I got it to taste so good and it be so pretty and clear. Brew it on the stove and let it steep and use good water. I learned real quick why she was fascinated! First restaurant we went into I ordered iced tea and my husband LET me! It was kinda dark in the restaurant so I thought they’d brought me a Coke so I wasn’t going to bother sending it back. One sip and I realized it was the strongest most bitter lemon flavored instant tea I’d ever had! I almost spit it all over my husband who comes back with…oh, I forgot to warn you about the tea!!! Jerk!! I then got why my MIL loved my tea so much! I miss that woman so much. We had so much fun together. I think now all he has are cousins in SF. My history is easy …….Native Texan. Ya’ll have a good day “you guys” stay out of trouble!😂😜

I enjoy the family history Brian, thanks for sharing. This is how we told stories too on our farm in New England. My pepe (french) grandfathers house was 200 years old and we still had the 5 foot saw blade. He told the story when the saw blade came off the saw and went up the 1/4 mile field and hit the side of the house and stuck in...What a story...

Loved the "smell my finger" moment. I could see a similar interaction between my son and myself happening. I enjoy the "Brain time". I think we need more "Jeff time" as well. The family history was very interesting,nice to know how people got started in farming.I know why you wore gloves while cleaning the cow water,we had raised hogs for 30 years and remember how that awful smell would stay on your hands...almost as bad as stepping in rotten soybeans(nasty).Hard and dirty work being a farmer;but would not of traded it for the world......
Jill, my husband and I also raised hogs for about 25 years and yes after I cleaned out a hog waterer the first time I wore gloves after that.

I watch a few different farming YT channels that have cows. I know breed has something to do with it, but your cows are the healthiest and happiest looking cows out of all of them. Your cows are the only ones that come running when they see you. California likes to claim that happy cows come from California, but this channel proves they come from South Dakota.

I’ve watched you guys from time to time until a month or so ago. Just finished all of your past and current videos. The history about the Sonne’s was interesting. Went to school in NW Iowa and watching just brings back such found memories of my time out in the heartland. Been to SD, ND, MN, NE and KS

Brian, loved hearing your family history. I know a little about my husbands Sioux Falls family history. It’s his Mom’s side. She met his Dad when he was a Drill Sergeant in the Army. She worked in a drug store in Sioux Falls and she actually was a Rosie the Riveter during WW II in SD, he came in and one thing led to another and they married and he brought her to Abilene, Texas where my husband was born. One of her brothers worked for the railroad and her father was a barber in SF. We have all his old barber tools. I harassed my mother-in-law about her Yankee accent which several words she passed down to my husband. I’m like what did you say? He tells me…you know what I mean!! I should really be talking with this southern Texas accent!! When we went on vacation to Deadwood, Mt Rushmore and Custer State Park we planned to go back to Sioux Falls but never made it. My MIL always was just fascinated when I made iced tea. She wanted to know how I got it to taste so good and it be so pretty and clear. Brew it on the stove and let it steep and use good water. I learned real quick why she was fascinated! First restaurant we went into I ordered iced tea and my husband LET me! It was kinda dark in the restaurant so I thought they’d brought me a Coke so I wasn’t going to bother sending it back. One sip and I realized it was the strongest most bitter lemon flavored instant tea I’d ever had! I almost spit it all over my husband who comes back with…oh, I forgot to warn you about the tea!!! Jerk!! I then got why my MIL loved my tea so much! I miss that woman so much. We had so much fun together. I think now all he has are cousins in SF. My history is easy …….Native Texan. Ya’ll have a good day “you guys” stay out of trouble!😂😜
