    Can’t wait to get mine. BRN4 I saw was machined well in critical areas, finish was a little rough in areas not essential to function, only aesthetic and as a machinist, doesn’t bother me. Uppers this type run $1,000 more. Can’t wait!

    I would like to see what your recommendations are for the hand guards. Length/manufacturer, ext. I ran a HK416 in Iraq and Afghanistan. I would like one for myself but I’m not willing to pay HK $4K-6K for one. Thanks for making a fully assembled upper.

    Very nice and cool...but $1200 for an upper without a handguard...i know it's fashioned after the 416 but I'm guessing MI handguards won't work...which is a deal breaker for me..and the price....omission MI does make a handguard for the 416... the cost of the upper is the only issue now.

      Barrel length and dimensions are wrong. Nevertheless, the real bayonet lugs are like $70. Chrome lined M27 profile Nefarious Arms barrels are very rare and $700 when you find one, but they're the only M27 profile barrels available period currently.
      These are NOT 16.5" long. they're 16.1s. Even if you pinned one, without an extra long muzzle device the bayonet would fit wrong/look weird

      @printingwithpeek4897 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @grinch5979 The MCX is closer to what you would expect put of an AR15. Smoothness doesn't translate to better function, just so you know. Also, it being lighter to charge back isn't necessarily a good thing. There's one guy on here who designed a trip lever for the BRN 180 to operate in a select fire capacity, and you get bolt over runs and failures to feed. He ended up getting Wesbaun 25% increased weight recoil springs.

      @xz569 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      Having both, IE 416 and 417, and BRN -180 upper, the BRN is a better civilian, lighter and just works. The 416/17 is very front heavy, as they are built on mil spec, IE DMR/thick barrels to make them last longer etc. So I prefer lugging around AR15/Brn 180 over the 416/417 (yes, the 417 is a 308 and really heavy to do standing precision shooting with, but we do that with it) And the 416 is the fully automatic edition.
      If they could reduce the front weight, it would be nice, but the 416/17 is just a good military weapon, it is not a good competition rifle.
      For you that have this for self defense? Yeah, 416 any day of the week. As it requires little to no real maintenance, and can run dry even with very few problems.

      1100 is very affordable in today’s standards of 416 clone uppers. You want to see “pricey” then get an actual MR556 upper because this is actually a good price til competitors come out with their own 416 clone upper.

  • @Honezjr
    @Honezjr 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

    Considering this is a 416 style upper, it makes no sense to not include a handguard since this platform is unique from the AR-15 dimensions. Brownells should’ve teamed up with Geissele and included their handguard out of the box. If it had a Geissele handguard and was $1299, it’d be a much better value.

      Bro, if you think $1200 isn't already a value for what you're getting, you're on crack. PWS uppers, alone, cost more than this, and they're manufacturing this for brownells. That's not really an argument that you can objectively make, when MR556 clone uppers go for a minimum of $1500. These are also already upgraded components as opposed to piecemealing upper components after buying a basic upper for a 416.

    • @billydanzz

      piston ARs are a dead end that just kinda wanders forward aimlessly. All of the factors that make them successful have nothing to do with the gas system, except for about a 5 year period in the early 2000s before Mk18s were made reliable.
      that, plus being a 5.56 SBR from a company previously supplying a bunch of SOF and police with MP5s, basically it was a catalogue replacement for the MP5, and in that role the weapon is absolutely excellet.
      you've got to remember who is selling each type of rifle and how.
      Who sells DI ARs? Historically, Colt, LMT, KAC, Colt Canada are about it. So if one of those companies can't politically or in scale meet the needs of a contract, the DI AR15 is essentially failed for reasons completely and entirely unrelated to the gas system.
      Who sells the HK416? HK. Made in Europe, well made (as the other companies I mentioned are as well), already sold tons of firearms to SOF and police for decades before, used to tailoring them to those customers.
      Colt has been playing catch up in silly things this entire time. Handguards, handguard length, fire selection, integration with suppressors, etc. Colt fell into memes like barrel swaps and rifles you can convert from 7.62 to 5.56, competing with what failed on the SCAR even.
      late 2000s-2010s, they were popular for having a free float handguard and being well made. (USMC, Norway)
      or, for over the beach capability (USN and some other SOF)
      late 2010s-present, they were popular for being made in europe and having AR15 ergonomics. (Germany, France)

      It’s not a standard assembly, the gas key has been modified for the op rod to strike it and the internals are different and the bolt is different with no gas rings.
