Emily Henry is EASILY one of my favorite authors but I don't think I would recommend them, personally, to people who want to get into reading. Colleen gets such a bad rap these days, but she is arguably THE reason that so many people are reading again and this booktok and booktube spaces have blown up. She is the gateway, like you said. I think because her books are gripping, and they're not all fluffy romances, there's always big secondary plot that adds to the "drama" so you're not really bored. My friends and I started a book club earlier this year, and our 2nd book was Happy Place and I had already read it but everyone else hadn't and there were a lot of mixed feelings and a lot of them were newer readers. And I understood why. They are slower paced, less plot and more literary/women's fiction vibes which to a new reader isn't always as enticing as a Colleen book that just kind of captivates you from the beginning. Archer's Voice, 100% agree. Great starter book!!
Absolutely love your videos!! I completely agree on your "It Ends With Us" analysis. Blake was confident throughout the entire movie and I just felt like there was very little character development from Lily versus in the book when you can tell - as the reader - how she was changing and how her experiences affected her character moving forward. I was also sad about the missed marks and the important dialogue scenes between Atlas/Lily and Lily/her mom. Those two scenes in the book HIT for me, while in the movie it felt like just kind of an afterthought to add. I am excited for "Verity" though!!!!
