    I ran an experiment at my band's show at Riverside Casino on September 3rd to see if I could multitrack record some of our set through our Behringer XR18 mixer into an iPad and using GarageBand as the DAW. The process worked great!

    That one tip about turning on automatic was the one thing I really needed, thankyou

    Awesome video!
    Is there anyway to export the individual audio tracks from GarageBand to mix in your DAW of choice? Would love to know. Keep rockin'!

    Hi . I’m hoping you can help 🤞 I’ve tried to mirror your set up . However I cannot get GB to recognise the x air as the interface . Did you have to alter any settings in the mixer or on GB ? Or was it simple plug in and away to go ?

      I would have to look again, but I’m pretty sure I ran into some roadblocks and addressed those in this video. I’m currently on vacation and away from all musical equipment. I’ll have to check this out in September.

    That's an incredible mobile studio! Looking to do something similar, but as far as I can tell the XR18 has way better mixing capacity than GarageBand, so would use the iPad simply as storage.

      Thanks for watching Heiko! We usually record onto my laptop and use the iPad just to mix the mains and in-ears through the X-Air app. I’d avoid using the iPad as storage as you’ll run out of space REALLY fast. I’ve been multitrack recording and filming all our shows for like 2 years and I now have MULTIPLE hard drives with all the data from the shows saved.
      Have you checked out the video I made about recording our shows?

      @@DavidPaigeMusic Thanks both for the videos and your insights. I won't be recording full shows like you do, but one song at a time which is what you seemed to be doing in this particular video. I don't have the XR18 yet, but from what I can tell it's quite powerful and should work well also for the final mix-down. Looking forward to playing with it!

      @@heikobarnholdt7313 the XR18 is great as a live mixer and as a powerful audio interface. You won’t need the XR18 anymore once the tracks are inside the recording application you’re using - be it GarageBand, Logic, Pro Tools, Ableton, Davinci Resolve, or whatever you’d like to use. All of those applications have their own mixing capabilities inside the apps. Some are more limited than others, but once you’ve captured the audio with the XR18, those files can be mixed anywhere!
      To clarify, you won’t be able to use the XR18 to manipulate the mix of your tracks during or after recording. This mixer can be used to create great mixes for live application AND it can be used to send your separate tracks into a digital audio workstation (DAW). But you’ll have to use that DAW/application to mix.
      You could also get someone on Fiverr to mix it for you, I’m sure!

    Hey David! Great video - and excellent song choice & performance 🤘I've got a question - I know you can record into the XR18, but can you easily playback from the iPad to do a virtual soundcheck? I've done it from my Mac alot - but an iPad would be way more convenient, does GarageBand see the multiple outputs to send to individual tracks?

    Ok cool! I just did it on Saturday. Worked great. Recorded 10 individual tracks and the main outs as well! Sounded awesome. One problem. I was planning on letting it run for the whole show but after the first set I find the recording had stopped and a dialogue box came up saying “maximum song length reached” any way to make it record longer?

    • @DavidPaigeMusic
      @DavidPaigeMusic  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great! I’m glad you got it running!
      I ran into the same problem. Look at 2:03 to see where I fixed that when we tracked this show!
      To be honest, multitracking 10 tracks for an entire set MAY be outside an iPads capabilities, but I haven’t tried that long of a recording yet! Please let me know if it works!

    Hi David thanks for posting this. My band is trying to do this as well. Did you record your live mix or was this direct from the mics?

    I got one question left: is it possible to route metronome to one bus channel on the XR18 from Garageband?

  • @drumharm

    I know you have to set up output usb routing in the behringer mixer app. Do you have to do something similar in garage band?

  • @drumharm
    @drumharm ปีที่แล้ว +1

    While trying this in my behringer mixing app, even set to multitrack recording, I cannot arm more than one track at a time. Is that because I’m not hooked up to the xr18 right now?

    • @DavidPaigeMusic
      @DavidPaigeMusic  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, you will have to hook your iPad up to the mixer, then set the mixer as your inputs, and then enable multitracking, and then you will be able to arm multiple tracks. It was a little confusing for me the first time I tried it as well, which is why I wanted to see if I could track the whole band at the same time!

      @@DavidPaigeMusic Hello! david! i have an Ipad (5ta gen). I use the usb cable, but i can see the channels in the track when i try to select on input channel i only have the "mic" (ipad mic) channel. It is neccesary to select the interface in any app configuration? thanks.

    Do you have to enable “multitrack” recording in garage band?

    This is awesome, do you know if you’re able to record an entire show using iOS?
