I'm so excited for this episode. One of my dad's favorite movies, and he unfortunately passed away in 2013, so it holds an extremely special place in my heart. I love it for so so many reasons but i also think of him everytime I watch it. A true Rewatchable
I knew it! Finally, I love True Lies so much. True Lies has low key one of the funniest scenes in a movie. When the harrier pilot asks Schwarzeneggers character if shooting missiles at the truck will set off the nuke and he tells them no and then turns to Tom Arnold’s character and does a funny face like, “Boy, I really hope not”.
@@MRide3000 I'm curious why you were so compelled to write this in a public forum, like its wild. Keep it to yourself and just unfollow this channel, no one wants you here.
This is Arnold's last great movie imo. It's incredible action, funny and has great chemistry with Jamie LC. It was the end of his Apex (from Predator-True Lies). A historic end to a historic run
This is the first action movie i ever saw. A guy had a tv in his backyard where he'd invite people to watch movies for 5 pesos in my town back in the Dominican Republic. I also watched Terminator 2 there that same year and learned years later that it had been released before true lies. Funny how good movies touch us in a way that brings back memories of one's life when we first watched them
So stoked you guys finally did this one. As for the “why is the daughter listening to Cream” thing though. She’s listening to the Living Colour cover, that was the promo song for the movie, and was pretty massive on the airwaves in the build up (remember having the cassette single and hammering it here in New Zealand). Her listening to it on the motor bike is a blatant homage to T2 with GnR on the motorbike. Love the Pod keep em cranking.
You guys miss the forest for the trees in the bond discussion. Goldeneye is the second most important bond movie outside dr no and the most important/best bond film in the last 40 years. If goldeneye wasn’t a success after the dalton run, there are no more bond movies. On top of that it’s amazing.
I'm so glad they mentioned the obvious stunt man in the horse scene. I've been laughing about that for years. Also, Apex Mountain; 1994 is the best year for movies of all time.
I love the look Van and CR give each other when Bill puts The Fugitive on the non-sequel list and they are trying to explain to him that US Marshals is a direct sequel 😂
1) you clearly can NOT put it on the no sequels list. Just a ridiculously stupid take. 2) I totally get where Bill is coming from. US Marshall’s feels more like a spinoff than a sequel.
@59:00 talking about music/no music in the scene. They probably have an earpiece in, so they can hear the music, and move to it, but it's not "out loud" in the room where it would mess with their dialogue. That allows them to dance to the beat better, but also allows for easier sound mixing later.
They planned a sequel to this movie, a script was even ready with James Cameron returning to direct and Arnold returning to star. But then the 9/11 attacks happened and the plot had a similar set piece to the actual 9/11 so they had to scrap it. Cameron said that after that Terriorsm was something not be made fun of after 9/11.
@@bhaveshdubey4488 Arnold was actually in a a film around 2001 about a terrorist bombing a building. Can’t remember what location the film was set in but because of the subject matter they had to hold the movie back a year and it eventually bombed in the cinemas, excuse the awkward pun.
The whole cast is just stellar at selling the physical comedy/sight gags (ha CR said it right as I’m typing this). Both of the standout moments in memory are on the pole. Tom Arnold “taking cover” and Jamie Lee Curtis “being sexy”. Also honorable mention to the unnamed cameraman who runs out of batteries 😂
This one is a banger, nowadays this type of action masterpiece is a bullshit throwaway flick straight to Netflix, starring 2 stunning leads with 0 chemistry who were paired up via algorithm.
Sadly you completely nailed it. They simply don't make action movies like True Lies anymore. And the Netflix ones are such poor imitations. I haven't even bothered to watch Six Underground, Red Notice, or The Gray Man because I just assume they're all bad.
@@spencerkindra8822 i thought it was a decent flick, you should check it out- maybe i would compare it to Matt Damon's Bourne films if anything. The other ones you mentioned i havent seen- i had zero interest to watch Red Notice, because im not really big on The Rock or Ryan Reynolds.
The three wizards of the Rewatchables. It's almost a drinking game how many times Van Lathan looks at Bill after a hot take like he's got worms coming out of his eyes. These three crack each other up, and me, everytime. I'd watch a Nell if it was Simmons, Van Lathan and CR.
I totally agree regarding renaming Dion Waiters award based on Bill Paxton's role in this. Dude absolutely CRUSHED that character. Arguably the best part of the entire movie. RIP
When you're asking what they were trying to make, you guys are neglecting the most important thing about this movie: True lies is a remake of a French film called "La totale". La totale is so good that True lies coppied an enormous percentage of it. That is the answer to "what were theyy trying to do".
It feels like a no brainer that True Lies should have a sequel, BUT, in some ways I am glad it is kept as just a secular film. I can understand Bill's take that this being the best Bond since, really, the biggest truth is that this film shows off how good Arnold is at acting and with the right director. Very much like Total Recall-which involves the Spy genre-as Harry Tasker he is allowed to be a Bad ass, a Dad, charming, jealous, concerning, emotional. Most of all, it shows off how naturally good at Comedy he is without being forceful, cringy, or, trying too hard. Example, when he is explaining Crimson Jihad's intentions when they are recording the video, its a great example of how he weaves the seriousness and comedy
My hot take is Arnold is actually a really good actor. Not like on Daniel Day Lewis level, but really good. Him playing the Terminator, in T2 is a really good performance. He has to be warm and charming while still playing an emotionless cyborg. He pulls it off.
Weve had so many bad portrayals of Terminators, or actors playing some kind of emotionless robot or whatever. But Arnold is great in both the first two Terminators. He's frightening and intimidating in 1, then he's charming and funny while still being intimidating in 2. With the exception of Robert Patrick, every other actor playing a Terminator has been bad at it, or at best serviceable but forgettable.
I was so excited and worried at the same time. Excited cause i love this film and worried that Mallory Rubin would ruin the pod with an appearance from her. But alas she did not ruin this one thank god. Awesome pod thanks guys
I think you guys should do a Rewatchables on Last Action Hero because that movie, all the satire and critiques on Hollywood, Movie Stars, Big Budget movies, etc., you can STILL apply it to this day. And, Arnold really gives a damn good performance especially when Jack Slater comes into the real world. The self analyzation, Arnold was doing this way before it became a thing actors do on SNL for laughs. I chalk it up to Arnie's ego, but, if he moved the released date of LAH a week or two prior to Jurassic Park, it would have fared better at the Box Office
The sequel to True Lies is a Netflix series called Omega Sector staring Arnold Schwarzenegger as the head of OS and his daughter is the new head spy working with the 3rd guy in the van they go on missions around the world
0:28 the best Bond movie of the last 40 years is either Casino Royale or GoldenEye. Skyfall is really good but it's not as good as either of those movies. But I think the best non-Bond movie that feels like a Bond movie of the last forty years is The Rock because it's an unofficial final film Sean Connery movie.
Arguably Arnold's greatest performance, but Predator is still my favourite. The ending, with Dutch beaten and broken after losing his entire team, is something else.
Agree with you guys 💯 that The Rock never had or never will have the star power of a Schwarzenegger or Stallone. These guys were truly "the last action heroes" of our (Gen X) generation
