I just love the vibe that Radu and you give when you team up, either for duels or when you try to beat some records, streaks and such. You have such a chill vibe, so relaxed, appreciating each other's thought process. Other pros tend to get hectic when playing together. You're like the opposite, getting more chill, trusting in your mate and oh, you're both awesome at the game
Dumb system with how they count points. People guessing on top of eachother ruins the whole concept of a team duels. What was wrong with counting the closest guess?
the idea is that they want to reward people for committing the correct region when the other team sends one in the right region and one somewhere else.
personally i enjoy the original more but i think there are reasonable arguments to be made in favour of the new system as well.
This seems to be the popular opinion, but I actually HARD disagree. I watched all the rainbolt tournaments and found the fact that it only counts the closest guess as a huge problem that gets exacerbated even more the more players you have per team. hedging is just way too powerful. "It's probably here, but we can go here, here and here just in case and there's no downside."
this new system forces people to make a decision - commit all players and get max points, but risk being wrong and getting blown out, or hedge somewhere else and lose some points if you were right.
Being absolutely certain and going all in on a location should be rewarded accordingly.
@@chriscastle1629 I agree with the sentiment: Encouraging a discussion and a commit makes a lot of sense. But on the flip side, on the lower ranks, people sometimes don't know which continent a difficullt map is (less common during the 2v2 duels as they're almost always in a city in my experience)'. So hedging is more fun there. I think it should be split, old system until gold.
@@chriscastle1629 yeah, and i would also add that the idea that the "team" aspect gets diminished is not true at all - arguably MORE teamwork is required to come up with the most reasonable guess(es) now that you can be punished for not committing to a certain region with your team.
i think the reason i personally still prefer the original system still is that it seems like the punishment for hedging is quite harsh. in reference to your second paragraph - oftentimes the latter ALSO results in being blown out, especially when multis are in play. i just wonder if perhaps there would be a way to make it so that if one player is close but the other is far, it'd sort of ease the amount of damage taken, such that hedging is risky but not AS risky as it is now. i have no idea how the math on that would work and it'd probably even be too complicated for the devs to even consider implementing, but yeah.
I really think a hybrid would work best: count 30 - 50% of the more distant guess for each team. Incentivises the commit if you're sure, but makes smart hedging much more viable and useful.
They really need to change the system to how pros have been doing team duels for ages now. As a viewer it's also way more interesting than just watching people guess the same spot.

It's kind of boring how they have to guess in the same place every time. It feels no different than playing solo. Only one guess.

2v2, 1 ‘Noob’ 1 Pro in a team, the lower level players have to identify the country within a minute or so and the Pro has to guess within that country :)
(Idea is based on those chess tournaments where Beginner says what piece to move and Pro moves it)

To devise a system that’s in between the two extremes. That would take the full points of the closest and only a portion of the points of the further ones depending on their distance. In that case it would still make sense to double-send if sure and hedge when not sure. But the hedge would be with a downside to the distant hedger.

Yeah it's crazy to me that they didn't do something like this. Make it 100% of the closest one and only 50% of the other guess for example. That way you reward certainty but also provide an incentive for creative hedging.
When I was young in central Dalarna they changed the main road through my village to red, it was much much more rough than the standard asphalt at the time and my bike riding knee scrubs were much more severe. The red roads became more and more popular here but they are since a couple of years being replaced with very smooth deep black asphalt. 170km new black asphalt is being laid this summer in and around my home town of Borlänge and to the north and south. E16 through Borlänge heading northwest to Djurås and RV70 to Säter heading southeast, along with a number of smaller roads around the compass.
The red roads are very wear resistant as the road surface is stone pebbles embedded down in asphalt instead of an asphalt surface, so they have stayed for a long time in the rural areas.

My thought was to make further guess deal not full damage but like 50%, this would make hedging more interesting but also worth 5k-ing for both players when felt confident

This format would work for a slightly different 2v2 game mode where you're randomly assigned a partner with a similar ELO, and you both guess separately witihout communicating, but for this type of team duel where you're working and discussing the roud together it is much less interesting than the original format of 'closest guess'.

I queue 2v2s with a friend who’s newer to the game and loves team duels, but this new scoring system has completely ruined it for us. If I don’t tell him exactly where to guess, we get completely demolished every time… but telling him where to guess ruins the fun and makes us both demotivated to play.
I think maybe this works in a competitive setting where people would be in more of a consensus as to where to guess, but when it comes to newer players, rewarding the closest guess is better because it’s easier to be safe, so it’s not as punishing if you’re wrong. I think they should revert it.

It should have a multiplier for the closest guess. Could have the max guess be 4k with a 1.5x multiplier so you can still do 10,000 damage.

Hilarious how the devs put a post on Reddit asking the community if they’d rather it go by best guess or totals added together and people almost unanimously said they’d rather it be closest guess, and they just went for the thing everyone said they didn’t want :-P

Interesting with the combined HP, pretty much can't have one player hedge. I'm not sure that's in the true spirit of the game, but only time will tell.

Can someone help explain why the new format is mathicaticly bad? It seems like it would be fine to split guesses, unless its a for sure 50-50 between 2 spots. Maybe im just dumb.
5:08, RC 5k's but they still lose points cause Z8 hedged, cause the points system is exponential its always better to try have 2 close than 1 close 1 far for hedge, even if the 2 people get it wrong sometimes, especially if you're good, sending together will always come out on top
