Just a bit of info on this performance. It was recorded when he had just gotten over having laryngitis for a week. He was on vocal rest for about 5 days where he wasn't allowed to talk at all and it was suggested to him not to do the concerts but he did anyway and he was still amazing. This concert was one of the first days that he had his speaking voice back.
@Kavan deakan Nobody said Adam is bad and nobody gave him crap, every musician has there own style and Brendons style fits a little better that’s all we are saying, Queen can pick whoever they want
Brendon's such a fucking masterful singer. it's insane. He's one of those singers that are just so inspiring it brings tears to your eyes...especially as a singer myself it just blows my mind how flawless he is.
I wasn’t either. My parents were born in the late 1940s, so I grew up on their music. I didn’t discover Bowie or The Rolling Stones really (I knew other more obscure British bands) until about 2002 - 2003. Got fortunate to see Bowie live in 2004 for my 14th birthday, and the Stones the year after. So when MCR, FOB, P!ATD (this was in high school and I had no idea who ANY of them were or heard any of their songs then I think) hit on the scene, I was playing catch up with 70s and 80s music. Wasn’t until 2015 when I decided to give them a chance that I watched “Emperor’s New Clothes” and fell in love immediately with their old music and Brendon’s solo music (even though he keeps the band name). Same with FOB - I think it was “American Beauty/American Psycho” that made me get into them. And some time around then I actually started listening to MCR (hell, I’m cutting and dying my hair soon and I’m either doing RM’s hair color in “Idol” or pure white like Gerard’s in “Welcome to the Black Parade”), though I need to watch more. I did not sleep on Twenty One Pilots though. Saw them on Valentines Day (a holiday I loathe) just days after they won their Grammy - first time I’ve seen a drummer crowd-surfed while playing drums. And an intermission of challenging a fan to “Mario Kart”. And since “Suicide Squad” had come out they actually sang “Heathens”. And one of the opening bands played “Mr. Brightside”.
Not a big panic at the disco fan but Brendan did a good job with this cover. I like that he made it his own vocally a lot of people when they cover this just tend to basically do karaoke.
@@DemiHavok420 Just a brief question about not being a big fan. How many of their songs have you heard? Just the radio singles or have you listened to everything? I'm just wondering because from most of what I've seen since being a fan the past two years is that many, if not most of the, people who say they don't like Panic!'s music just haven't heard it all.
Can we talk about the fact that he was still getting over having laryngitis? I mean I heard very few, if any, vocal flaws or crack or anything. And for me personally as a big Panic! and Brendon Urie fan, I love how he sings this stylistically. He doesn’t try to heavily alter or take away from the masterpiece Queen made. But he still is able to not focus on trying to mimic Freddie, and make it his own. I love this video, I’m probably responsible for like half its views at this point.. 😂
The little runs, trills and slides are definitely the Brendon sound that differentiates him from Freddie Mercury in this version. He generally adds those to his live performances more than the album versions.
This is one of the best covers ive ever heard of this song just now have been diving into Panic at the Disco and Brandon has one of the most impressive vocal ranges ive seen in a long time its effortless with his high notes and overall tone got alot of respect for him as a person and musician
One thing I really like is how he isn't putting vibrato on everything. That's one thing that's always driven me nuts about classically trained singers, most I've heard just have vibrato going 100% of the time.
Really enjoyed your reaction! Brendon Urie is awesome and I think you would enjoy seeing some of his live performances (his videos are CRAZY as well)! I recommend Brendon Urie’s Popcrush video, that shows many of Brendon’s awesome live performances 😬😬😬 The Victorious performance on Ellen is also a must see 👍👍👍
Way back in the late 1970s, I and a bunch of buddies from my job at the Peach Bottom (Pennsylvania) Nuclear Power Station piled into one guy's car and made the trip all the way to what was then called the Capital Center in Largo, Maryland to see Queen who had just released A Night at the Opera. It is an experience that will remain with me to the moment that I breathe my last. As for this very talented young man, I like that he, as do so many artists doing covers, puts his own spin on it while still paying homage to the original.
I’ve always heard if you’re going to cover a really famous and beloved song, you either have to do it better than the original, or make it your own somewhat. If you try a straight copy and it’s not as good as the original, it just won’t work. Sometimes a performer can be better than the original and make it their own, which is pretty rare. I think Brendon adds just enough of his own style into it, while doing the original really really well, and it just made for a great rendition of this song. You can see where he’s honoring Freddy by keeping it like the original, and where he plays with it a bit just to make sure you don’t forget who you’re watching. It was very, very well done, and I think there are really only a few people that could do this and actually pull it off the way they did. I think it’s excellent.
It's definitely unpopular opinion, but I personally enjoy this cover more than original version. I'm not a fan of Queen and Freddie, they just aren't my cup of tea, but I have huge respect for them. But I enjoy a lot of Panic's work and Brendon is one of my biggest inspirations when it comes to singing, so when they covered Bohemian Rhapsody, it just kind of connected and I fell in love this song, because it truly is genius work, I just needed it from someone who is closer to my style I guess.

I totaly agree with you. For what it is it's great, but its not Freddie, nor should it be. The original is a piece of iconic music that will never be surpassed. But that doesn't mean that others shouldn't try and make their own version of it, as long as it's done with respect for the original. BTW, love your sweater, made me think of the song "Vincent" aka Starry starry night.
Brendon would obviously never try to emulate Freddie, or be as good as Freddie. That's why I'm glad he just puts his own spin on it. And I know he must have been SO flattered to be chosen to do the official cover of this song for the Suicide Squad movie....just to know that he had Queen's approval must be incredible, since he's a huge fan.
