      The cars safe enough to survive are too expensive to crash.
      Number 2 this season crashed before he could develop. Gives you a real sense of perspective on what we have been seeing from "The Midfield Drivers" this era of cars.

    I think there is a difference between driver safety and race safety...
    What we need to do is make the cars harder to drive on their limit. More power, less electronic aid and less downforce. That way we can have more dramatic races.
    Maybe then we will have drivers an their mental and physical limits, seeing who has what it takes to defend in corners, take chances with gaps and also see if they can actually get the car to the end of the race.
    Actual safety features like the halo need to keep coming. Imagine if Senna had a halo on his car... We may have been listening to his views on the subject.
    Basically, keep the drama but keep the drivers too.

  • @Xerdoz
    @Xerdoz 7 ปีที่แล้ว +100

    It already died when they banned slicks. Then they have all kinds of stupid limitations. "You cannot refuel" "You can only use crappy tires" "You can only use X amount of fuel" I wonder when they will ban the drivers because they lose weight during the race which gives an advantage.

    • @DeathBringer769

      Require all the drivers to be fat and heavy, so it slows down the cars, you know, just for added safety ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

    • @SkyForceOne2
      @SkyForceOne2 6 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      Then again, you'd be the first one to complain about their good tires when they dont have to box because they last the whole race.

      You don’t seem to realise that F1 is being sponsored by road cars manufacturers, and some of the things you want on a toad car is fuel economy. Why not develop that economic engine through F1, that way F1 won’t seem too pointless. And as for refuelling, they found out it doesn’t make the cars any faster, it only increases risk,

    • @sukhmaidickoff
      @sukhmaidickoff 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@azeezosho9459 I´m certainly not an expert on F1 - but F1-engines rev with up to 15.000 rpm whereas "normal" cars have their optimal performance between 2.500 and 6.500 rpm. I don´t think that there are many similarities between a F1 engine and a "standard" gasoline engine for a family car - and fuel efficiency certainly is not one of the main priorities for a F1 engine. In addition an F1 engine basically lasts for a few races whereas most people would be offended if their own car couldn´t do 200.000 kilometers without major issues. So you just can´t compare those two engines and I assume only very few technical inventions and innovations from F1 cars find their way to mass-produced cars.

    It can be seen that the race day attendance are getting worse every year. Even the organizers are pulling out from organizing F1 in their country.
    My god! Don't make me start on the V6 engine. F1 is about fast car, fat tyres and loud sound. I went to the Malaysian GP 2017 and sat in front of the starting grid. I didn't have to wear ear plugs during the race start. It is that bad.

It takes nothing away from the challenge. The people who want to see a driver die are just sick, retarded bastards. That is my personal opinion. @@linanicolia1363 No one wants to see people die, but if you make the sport TOO safe, everyone can do it. The point of Formula One is that only the best of the best drivers get in, out of the entire population. If it becomes too easy, then no one will watch F1, and the sport will start losing competition. If it starts losing competition, which it is now since no one else has a big chance than winning other than Lewis Hamilton, it will lose popularity, which it also is now. If it starts losing both, then it will die. The whole point of F1 is to have that adrenaline, that thrill, passion, emotion, drama, and excitement that you get from watching F1, and for the drivers, driving the car and racing against other drivers, their teamates, and their rivals. I agree that F1 should be safe, which it already is, and it can't get any safer without losing competition and popularity. It is good the way it is now. The FIA has imposed enough rules and bans to make the sport safe, and no one should try to make the sport safer, because it already is. And if you drive at 180 or 200 mph average speed, it's not going to be safe anyway, because hey, it's a sport, and the most dangerous one, racing. Drivers should at least have some sense of fear while driving or else it'll just become too easy. Plus, the FIA has already ruined the sport by slowing down the cars, and making them go from around 1,300 hp, with screaming loud V12s (music to my ears), to 850 hp, and lame-ass V6s, which suck in every possible way. Before, people used to think of F1 cars as the ultimate car, the car no one or no other car could beat. Now, it's pretty easy to beat an F1 car in terms of quality (since the parts break off like twigs being snapped in two and can't handle some wheel-to-wheel action), and top speed, and some are getting very close to the cornering ability as well, such as cars like the McLaren Senna.

    • @sentientarugula2884
      @sentientarugula2884 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@thelamboman4085 Wait do you actually think parts break off easier now? I want you to look up some of those 1990's F1 cars with those V12's that you love so much and look at their crashes... they crumple like a tin can. And if you think F1 will become too easy when stuff like a halo is added, please tell that to Grosjean, whose life was saved through the halo and who was one of the most hardworking drivers in F1. jesus christ

    • @thelamboman4085
      @thelamboman4085 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@sentientarugula2884 And you act as if cars don't crumple up now. You put your shoe on the front wing to tie it up and the wing will break. You slightly hit the front wing on a curb, and parts will break off. It runs into the gravel trap and front wing breaks off. A slight nudge from another driver and the car will break off parts. If the carbon fiber is stronger now, it is very thin than it was in the 90's. And who says I'm necessarily talking about the 90's? I never said the halo was bad, it would've saved Senna's life if it was a thing back then, it can be redesigned on something like a 2000's V10 car or a late 90's car, so I'm sure we can come up with a better design and fit it on there. Otherwise, F1 is just too safe, take the Belgian Grand Prix for example 2 weeks back.

    A few modifications to current F1:
    · Rumble strips right next to track limits
    · Strict single-file restarts with a designed area to change the pace (current format is stupid)
    · Bye bye DRS, hello "overboost" - A button pressed by the driver will increase the pressure of the turbo, each driver has up to 90 seconds of overboost per race and can be used whenever. Overboost is banned in qualifying
    · Less people on pitstops, 2 lugnuts per wheel and refueling is back but with Le Mans' rules (first tyres, then fuel, so a car can be moved even if on fire)
    · A full tank should be enough to do around 200km
    · There will be a set of approved cost-effective parts like gearboxes, suspension and brakes. Teams should focus on chassis, body, engines and hybrid systems
    · Front wing and rear wing should be NARROWER than the space between the tyres
    · Wings should have straight top and bottom lips (less turbulence means more overtakes)
    · All winglets are banned
    · Drivers should be able to fire up and restart the engine from inside the car
    · Only 3 engine maps for dry conditions are allowed plus one for rain, one for a safety car and the overboost
    · No race will be redflagged due to rain unless the top5 drivers get below a set average speed minimum (cut the whining!)
    · Each year there will be a randomly selected race with double points and a race length of 400km or 500km (307km all the time gets boring), Monaco is not part of the rotation

      Why would the chance of death make F1 better. You're a fucking psychopath if you enjoy watching something in the hopes that someone will be killed. Danger isn't necessary to F1; it's the racing that makes F1 interesting, not the fact that the driver could die if they make a mistake. If safety improvements can be made without negatively impacting the spectacle of F1 (which no safety improvements I can think of have) then they should be made.

      David then how do explain that in the 70s it was normal that 200k or even 300k people visited the track over a weekend. When today a organisator can be proud to have about 100 to 150k spectators? Even if the racing today is much closer and competitive than it was back in the days?

    Reducing the element of danger and possible death in all motorsports has greatly reduced it's appeal to the masses. Niki said it himself "people will lose interest in the end". It's Human Nature to be intrigued by something that can kill you. I don't care what anybody says or thinks. It separated the great drivers from everyone else back in the day. It's a fact that most won't talk about or admit.

  • @FluppiLP
    @FluppiLP 6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    I think it's rubbish.
    I like to see accidents. I want every driver to get out though.
    I don't want to see accidents like Dan Wheldon, Justin Wilson, Jules Bianchi or even Massa etc
    If you would tell me that no one can die anymore in F1 I would take it right away.
    F1 dies because there is no overtaking anymore on most tracks, because there are too many aero parts that are unrestricted.
    And the technology is too expensive, only Ferrari, Mercedes and Red Bull have the money for buying expensive engines and then developing expensive cars (or developing the engine aswell). Renault is next because they also have a manufacturer behind them with money. Then maybe Mclaren, surely not as much money as the ones above and the rest of the field is struggeling. What would you expect?
    I only watch V8 supercars because the racing is great, the competition is incredible. The tyres are soft, there is refueling, the gaps are small and the racing is thrilling.
    F1 has soft tyres and dirty air. Not worth wasting 90min of my life for a race where nothing happens. I check the results first and then may rewatch it.
    Don't get me wrong, I love watching footage from the 70s and 60s but it breaks my heart everytime there is a fatal crash.
    F1 will stay dangerouse. Just look at the crash of Dario Franchitti. He didn't hit anything and had brain and spine damage. That can happy in F1 aswell.
    But at least accidents like Massa, Justin Wilson, Dan Wheldon, María de Villota and Henry Surtees won't happen again.

    Haven't watched a full race in years. The cars are technically brilliant, but are too good and reduce the drivers to pilots managing systems, add to that the garbage playschool circuits made safe for little seb & lewis to run wide and come back to play and it's all a complete turnoff.
    Rindt, Peterson - visor down going for it, full opposite lock, three pedals/gear stick, plenty of mechanical grip, low aero - the drivers doing the work and living in the moment, that was F1. Perfect. Life is meant to be about going for it and not just racking up a big number and the fake pretence of danger that F1 is now. MODERN F1 IS FAKE, STERILE, CORPORATE, SANITISED, SHIT.
    Sooner road cars are full autonomous the better, the techie kids of today will switch off, big manufacturers will no longer have any reason to be in it so F1 can return to privateers and drivers willing to push the limits and beyond in old school/crude cars.

    I'm not sure what he's saying there. He says he doesn't want safety but then he says that he wants the drivers to walk way from crashes. Danger has nothing to do with the spectacle of F1, it is merely a coincidence of it. I love watching big crashes, but they're much more fun to watch knowing that the driver will be fine. If you're watching F1 hoping that a driver gets injured or killed then you're just sick. I think what he's trying to say, but can't quite convey due to his limited English, is that he doesn't want to see regulations limit the spectacle of F1; he's not saying that safety advancements are bad, which is what every idiot in the comment section is implying. He actually said that reducing the chances of death to 0 is good.
