I enjoyed going there with my mother or gran, the elderly would sit around the fountain talking and gossiping, like they did, the fountain had, if I am right 1pences & 2 pences in it, Bought my 1st watch at a shop in the balcony, a swatch-watch, enjoyed a burger and milkshake at Wimpy's i can remember Burton's below Wimpy's and the veg store on the corner, a record shop, & i think there was a holiday shop but not 100% on that, Anyway, it was a lovely place back in the 70s and early 80s, THEN. They arrived and it went-down hill faster that a lead weight falling, Now the Arndale is as welcoming as a turd in a swimming pool, The best road in Nelson now, is the one leading out.....
Used to get the bus from Colne with my sister to shop in Nelson - late 60s early 70s. But we soon started taking the White Lady to Manchester too. But Nelson was scary last time i was there - homeless in tents - Market day there's no English anymore. 🤷🏻♀️
I wonder how many brown envelopes, carribean holidays and smart motors were circulating to get the centre built. Hasn't even lasted a lifetime hasit? Falling to pieces, riddled with concrete cancer, empty and devoid of anything useful. Now millions will go into the rebuilding.
It looked smart at the time. I would have gone from Colne as a child in the 1970's. We thought the space age had landed it was so modern. Not really sure why Nelson town center had died a death.

Nelson '62 is the most moving and poignant film I have ever seen.
I still find the town has an air of nostalgia about it for me, whenever I visit.
When did you last visit? In your dreams 😊
@@joesmoke9624 I did visit recently. How right you are.
@@MrMjp58 👍
@@joesmoke9624 change the paradigm you change nelson as it was before. It simple as this :)
@@yoyuepz Sweeping statement.
Well it's a right mess now. The "shopping centre" made Nelson centre a ghost town. Now it's little Baghdad.

This may have been downloaded from here and burned on to DVD which was then fraudulantly copyrighted.
They'd have been better leaving the original buildings as the Arndale now looks terrible.

Soon to be demolished I'VE been informed !?!?
Looks horrendous.
Nelson is much better now ; diversity is our strength.
