they were certainly awsome but any new sony at 299 will last longer and outperformed these.... they are kind of old... and requires lots of money to buy this nostalgia... i would if i had it but its not worth it in any scintific way.
Go rob a bank, they cost around $6k cdn or more restored. I bought a Yamaha CR2020 in 1979, my friend bought the Pioneer, and I thought I had the better receiver. Mine is worth at most $800 today.

After about 45 years of advances in engineering and electronics technologies, what's preventing Pioneer from building a current version of essentially the same SX-1980, and pricing it at the current market value? Im sure there would be a heckuva waiting list to get one!
I wish but truth is that it would either be made cheap and nasty or would be priced well out of the reach of most folk, if they were to engineer it correctly

The vintage gear is not designed to be used with a sub. For units that have 2 sets of speaker outputs, you could use one set for the sub, providing the amp allows you to run both sets simultaneously
Looks like fine art, the manufacturers really put in a huge effort in the past.
I have one. Got it in the Philippines in 78. The one thing that I brought and was always glad i did. Also my 69 VW camper is another.
