this is unironically the most useful drift guide i’ve ever seen. already figured out a lot of this stuff on my own the past year but finally having a tutorial that actually makes fucking sense is invaluable. thank you for putting the hours in and going above and beyond to try and teach people something new. I really appreciate it.
Very much thanks drunky. Wish I’d elaborated a bit more on each subject, especially towards the end but glad if it helps. Learning the ins and outs is like going head first into magician school.
as a person who has been drifting in beamng for over 3 years and probably 700 hours in the game I will say that it is a very good tutorial. I started with no idea about drifting, I played with mouse steering so it was even harder. At first I drove 200bx which only had welded diff and drifting steering and I only used clutch kick. Thanks to Initial D I started doing mass transfer, when I started drifting on touge sometimes I would understeer at the beginning of the turn, after setting camber, caster etc I understood how important suspension tuning is. This tutorial tells in a few minutes what I had to discover for over a year, watch it and lets drift
I straight up learned how to drive past a cars limits from video games. I first played any controller game, easy, managed to learn oversteer and understeer and how they both affect the car, it's "dumbed" down and simplified for controller on some games, others its more direct (BeamNG, before oversteer update. or Assetto Corsa). basically it's less accurate and you have no FFB, but that forces you to make it necessary to rely on your visual ques. I then got a wheel, cheap but usable with force feedback. I learned how to physically put those ideas of over and understeer to use to go fast or have controlled oversteer. Then I actually bought a RWD car (2019 BRZ) and now can throw it sideways with no adrenaline rush, and do it completely controlled. I do it in my own lane (on tracks obvvvv) I try not to do it with oncoming traffic for safety in case I make an error, but people who say sims can't teach you, are sorely mistaken.
From learning how to properly drive with a manual transmission to learning to drift, I kinda wonder what the next tutorial will be? How to do a proper front or backflip with a vehicle? Joking aside this tutorial sounded very useful heh 👍
I got it because I saw some of my favorite tubers crashing with it back in high school. But the attention to driving physics is nuts and got me hooked on the sim.
This is gotta be the best guide i've seen including this game im not bad at drifting but watching this has opened up my eyes to a couple of mistakes i make. Basically what im saying is your good at making tutorials keep on going
This is an extremely useful tutorial. Thank you Talks. Have my first updoot in months. These concepts are also useful for controlling less-wanted oversteer - something I struggled with extensively when I was first graduating to more tail-happy RWD cars (such as Covet MR).
DAYUM 12/10 this is detailed, and explained deeply, i like the way you explain stuff, also i learned some new stuff i might need for my drifting, thank you for making this
How to drift a fwd car: Ebrake on a turn and floor it (but u ruin your tires) Wait for it to snow or get icy outside, be stopped, turn steering wheel all the way, start moving, full throttle, then move the steering wheel the other way and full throttle again, boom fwd car slid without ebrake (I did it irl it was kinda fun)
@@adbulbinzyed2106 yeah, honestly as fun as rwd drifting is, fwd drifting needs to be a thing too, its much harder and if you do it good its much more rewarding, pulling the ebrake just ruins the tires tho
Hey noise! You may or may not remember me, your totally favorite subscriber cappuccino! It is such an amazing video man! I can’t get myself together to join one of your events, I always enjoyed your content! At this time, I want to ask my guardian to let me buy a wheel, really excited for the wheel I want! (The wheel is a PXN v99, really decent). Wish you the best, see you around in your server, I might as well pop in 🤣
If you don't like self steering yet have a keyboard like me, it is possible to get to a point where you can drift without any assistance, but MAN is it a lotta work and practice. Your fingers will have to spasm as fast as possible to stabilize the car's inertia and steeeing.
But after that it's soo satisfying! Just need to have 2000+ hours in the game and that's it lol. Weird that after all this time I'm still on keyboard ;p
lift off oversteer is probably more stable than using the brake, if you can get the back end out without hitting the brake just from letting off. Unweighting the rear can even give oversteer on FWD cars
I will say, while the BX is alright to learn, the stock drift configs in general tend to have a lot of turbo lag which makes learning difficult. Though it may seem underpowered, I think an N/A 3.0L I-series with no ABS is the best learner, especially for touge. The 3000i has enough power to hold a drift while having no turbo lag, a linear powerband, and beautifully balanced handling.
Eventually I’ll have a tuning tutorial out. But in the nearby future I’m wanting to tackle some previously promised projects. All which take a bit to get around to since I piece things together in my spare time 🫠
It took me a while to learn to drift but after several months, I can happily say I can drift a number of custom configurations decently well. oh yeah I'm also working on a flight yoke, no ffb
i started drifting on the sim now did 2 events irl and ill say that a flick or just a clutch kick entry irl is way more fun than to just yoink the handbrake aha
How do you adjust driver cam following the cars nose more? Sometimes when the car gains too much angle, the camera has a delay : the cam stays looking sideways even after spinning out and then resets
this is why beam is the new go to to learn to drift instead of assetto corsa the physics are 10x better assetto ends up giving you bad habits that can become serous issues and get you hurt irl beam does a much better job cant wait to see beam get better and replace assetto completely
dude, this is funny because i very recently got into sim-drifting with beamng (past year) and have gotten pretty decent, although i dont have the attention span to watch this through fully at this very moment (and i have stuff to do today) its conveniently come out AFTER ive already leaned how to take advantage of all the terms used for each chapter and seems to be a quality video covering everything needed, i just wish it had come sooner :/ ill add it to my watch later and make a mental note to actually do so
Hey! I have a t300 wheel, and the problem is that the self steering is slow as hell, sometimes, when i click the clutch and try to enter a turn the wheel sometimes stays at center, or barely moving. This is so annoying, there is a solution for that? I dont have this problem in assetto corsa, the self steering feels like a dream, i dont even have to rotate the wheel, because its doing its thing
my setting got reset on beamng for my wheel and ever since i can't get the wheel to steer itself, ill turn it up to see but i still dont know the exact setting i had it on before
3:56 for the life of me i can not get the car to not whiplash, no matter what i did, no matter what ive tried i didnt get even remotely close to what youre doing. it literally feels impossible to do because every single time it would just whiplash. i spent 2 hours trying this, and i ended up just getting really frustrated. idk if im just bad or if i just have bad ffb settings with my g29 (i followd your ffb tuning tutorial)
no in my opinion its best to take a naturaly aspirated car that weight no more than 1450kg with around 200hp and only things u do is weld dift stock angle standard tires best radiator u have and thats all u need later try with turbo but make the power low and learn with no handbrake use the wheight of the car
Drifting is done on manual. If you dont have an shifter then use the paddle shifters on your wheel. And dont use a handbrake while learning until ur somewhat okay at it
Tbh i bought the game without any information about it. I played for an hour and went to bed. Imma try and become so much better in this game. I just play on mnk and tbh its quite difficult
Beamng seems like so much fun, but everytime i try do to anything it either freezes or just crashes instantly, i dont even get why 😭🙏 (Yes, my pc is made for gaming, although it isnt the most expensive. And yes, i already put all settings to the lowest possible, its still lagging or freezing) If anybody knows how to fix it please tell me, im desperate ☠️

completly agree
Drifting in beam is so satisfying because you can´t just ram walls and other cars all you want like in assetto without potentially breaking your car.

How to drift a fwd car:

I can send a fwd car like no other. In Beam that is given it’s slightly downhill. Put as much weight as you can above the front wheels :D
you can also weight shift the hell out of it into the turn while controlling throttle and brake i'd say it counts as a drift that way

If you don't wanna spin you can press in the cluthc and if you lower the wheel angle you won't smash the other direction
