    I used Lumion for about 5 years during my studies with almost every project (with some exceptions for v-ray and TM) but i feel they fell behind the competition - i love Lumion and simplicity of the workflow with it but they slept over the revolution... Recently I used TM and D5 and feel they are more refined within RT/PT technology and offer the same or in some cases even more then Lumion at half or third of the price...
    Still can't wait for video comparing all 3 toghether :) You should use same custom materials in all programs to see true difference in how each engine handles scenes.

    I switched over to D5 from Lumion about a year ago for various reasons dealing with large projects; shorter load times, easier to load and manage custom assets & materials, no limits on number of scenes (could only do 10 panoramics in Lumion12), and of course ray tracing - at more than 4k... From all the vids I've scene on Lumion 2023 I still don't think i'll go back. Both D5 and Twinmotion have advanced rapidly compared to Lumion, even now after it's long awaited (and IMO lackluster) release.

    • @LearnUpstairs
      @LearnUpstairs  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for sharing your input, Adam! Much appreciated! These advantages of D5 compared to Lumion do in fact make a big difference. I still believe this update in Lumion has put them back in the fight against all other rendering engines, but I'm looking forward to creating this comparison video.

    Finally! A proper demo from the real expert, honestly their own demo didn't fully showcase the capability of their new ray tracing technology (if u watch on their channel).
    Anyway, I'm more surprised by the exporting time of the eight scenes u mentioned in the video that took 8 hours to render, whereas in D5 Render, I was able to export around 40-50 images of complex interior render (including all channels) which approximately only took 1 +/- hour! My PC specs are a little bit better than your setup (RTX 3060 8GB) with less RAM (16GB)
    This makes Lumion truly left behind by the other applications when it comes to Ray Tracing (some are free or cheaper subscription prices!)
    With the given price, they really have to step up their game and catch up with the other software.
    Great video, nevertheless.

    • @LearnUpstairs
      @LearnUpstairs  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Imadur, thank you so much for the amazing feedback! Much appreciated.
      Yes, the exporting time was much bigger than I anticipated, but then we got to take into account that all those specs are in a laptop format, which is slower than a desktop build.
      I also used Poliigon materials in everything and even included displacement on them all (even though some of them were not necessary). HDRI was in all images as well.
      Not defending Lumion's side here haha, but so that all info is laid on the table. I also got kinda shocked by the amount of render time, but then I thought it was my slow laptop you know.
      Yes, pricing is a huge factor for solo architects or small firms. Thankfully they switched to a more affordable subscription-based pricing model. But it is still very expensive when compared to other engines out there.
      Lots of things to be considered for sure! I appreciate your input. Cheers!

    • @LearnUpstairs
      @LearnUpstairs  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That's the magic of it, Apy-d! You simply add the Ray Tracing effect and play with the Sun or Real Skies to get the lighting going and that's it.
      There's no need for specific settings on other effects to get a realistic result, as it was with the older rasterization method.
      As I mentioned during the video, I've noticed that the Color Correction effect is a great ally to help expose a scene better. But in theory that's not necessary.

      I see them as different types of tools. Totally focused on archviz VS visualization as part of architecture practice.
      I might need to fine-tune that idea for the video. And also, maybe I'll need to bring more hands into this comparison, as I personally don't use Corona or Unreal for example

    • @elsonadounsueno
      @elsonadounsueno ปีที่แล้ว

      @@LearnUpstairs Corona is in a little bit different group of render engines... It is more similar to V-ray where u don't get real time preview of scene - skill cap with those two is much higher but also requires a lot more skill on entry level and are much more time consuming. D5, Twinmotion and Lumion are real time engines that operates on assumption that "what you see is what you get". Unreal Engine I hear more and more people use it for arch-viz and is something in between these two groups - its real time but you need more knowledge to operate. Its kind of step up or side step from Twinmotion and its great thing because you can start project in TM and export it and elevate in Unreal. Deffinitely worth checking out 🙂

    I believe Lumion still has a way to go. It's simplicity and speed for output is what keeps it in the running however having recently seen Twinmotion, Enscape and D5 Render, Lumion is lagging behind. Raytracing is a good step but not great with what other products offer especially with Lumion's price. I do love Lumion however I have found myself flirting with D5 in recent times.

      You think it's much better because it's free and there's no problem with that, but you cannot judge in any way which is better without testing the full release-version of Lumion. Lumion doesn't have every feature, but it has more features than D5 for sure, such as Photo Match, which is essential for rendering objects into a scene. I use D5 Render btw.

    • @LearnUpstairs
      @LearnUpstairs  ปีที่แล้ว +7

      That's a totally valid opinion, if D5 fits your workflow and gets to results you needed, then that's all you need.
      After all, a render engine is just a tool, and properly visualizing a project requires more than mastering the render settings.

Of course I'm talking about a professional context, with experts in architectural renderings. Most of agencies I know will switch to another platform by the end of 2023. Money is not necessarily the problem for them, but they finally wake up and are seeking for photorealism to compete with foreign agencies using other renderers.

  • @Salamon_Zsolt
    @Salamon_Zsolt ปีที่แล้ว

    Unreal is far far better. It wont make this new update sweat EPIC. Unreal is free... so yea...if Lumion would be closer to unreal maybe yes, other than that it's just waste of money and time in Lumion.

      I'm thinking about switching to UE, but is it better then Twinmotion? Since they're basically the same engine, but graphics is still different in them both
      So don't know what to choose

    • @Salamon_Zsolt
      @Salamon_Zsolt ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Mr.LeoNov basically they are the same engine, but real time GI was implemented like 1 years ago in unreal5 and Twinmoation still doenst have that. So if you are really want to be a pro and use the best engine, u should go for unreal. Sooner or later unreal is going to be next gen standard engine for archviz, games and movies, so yea better start now rather than wasting time on twinmotion or lumion, definetly its going to take more time to learn, but you are going to have next level works... anyways whats the big deal with Ray tracing, we had raytracing for like 20 years on lots of render engines, raytracing isnt a big deal in 2023, but Lumen in UE yea that's a big deal and gives us way more flexibility faster render times... so yea it's all up to you what you choose

    In short, Lumion 2023 is bad and also needs high operating requirements and a ray tracing graphics card. Its price is exaggerated. It is like children’s games. It does not have wide options for modifying materials and its images are unrealistic. As for vray, its images are realistic. The program does not need high operating requirements. You have wide options for modifying materials. Its price is reasonable. The best. I don't know why you compare Lumion to vray. At least you could have marketed Lumion without comparing it to vray because you know it's the best.

    • @LearnUpstairs
      @LearnUpstairs  ปีที่แล้ว

      That might be one of the reasons for sure, but I’d say that most importantly is the huge library of assets.
      And also the direct link with architectural programs, so then the design and visualization workflows are linked.
      But if you’re talking strictly about archviz and not necessarily connected to the architects daily tasks, then that might differ for sure!
