If you go to Tampico, it is a nice beach town but they have giant speed bumps for no reason and the speed limit is 55 klm per hour. I didn't see them. When i hit it we went airborne and it broke my rack and pinion.
Fyi. You didn't have to keep registering your car in Arizona. I have lived in Mexico for 3 years. My truck tags were expired for a year and they didn't care in Mexico. Mexico cops only look for that sticker on the windshield that you buy at the border for $60 and the deposit they charge depending on how old your car is. My 2005 Trailblazer was $300 deposit and i got it back when I left Mexico. Also insurance is very cheap. But not at the border. Those guy's at the border where you get your visa and car sticker are thieves. Go to a different location to get it and it will be very cheap and legitimate. They didn't say anything at the border going back into Texas either. Hope this helps you?

Been traveling to Mexico since 1976 and never a bad experience. Taught myself Spanish on the road and have been making friends there for over 40 years. Just got back a few days ago. We now take our whole family, grandchildren and all. A Mexican friend told me long ago to avoid drugs and politics and all will be well. He was right. Safe travels!

I have been traveling in Mexico since 1994. I have flown, used the bus, and drove. I have wandered around Mexico City and Morelia without any issue. I constantly hear or read comments from people telling me I am a fool and telling me how dangerous everything is. Usually, these are people who have never been to Mexico once in their life. I have lived here part of the year, every year since around 1996. I am well aware that there are dangerous places in Mexico, just as there are in parts of the USA and especially US cities and certain rural parts. I know a large number of people here in Mexico, both expats and Mexicans. The truth is that Mexico is a country with an amazing culture, good food, wonderful, warm and friendly people, and a great climate. It is a good place to be. It is not a utopia by any means but it is no hellhole either. One thing that I have noticed which is profoundly different between the US and Mexico is a simple thing. In Mexico, when you walk down the street, ride the city bus, walk through the parking lot into a large market or shopping center, or in any area where large numbers of people are present, you will notice people smiling, laughing, and enjoying themselves. They will acknowledge you in a friendly manner even when they do not know you. In the US, in similar situations you observe people looking stressed out, rushing about, and ignoring each other unless they are yelling at each other. The US has become a place full of angry, stressed-out people rushing from one place to another. It used to be quite different in the US but now it is a rather unpleasant place to be. I am afraid to be in any crowded place in the States, there is always an undercurrent of hostility in any large crowd like everyone is waiting for something bad to happen. It is not like that in Mexico.

Oh my gosh! My husband and I, our 13 year old, two cats and two dogs moved from Oregon to Tulum (by truck) in 2016. We got ALL the same rhetoric from family and friends. We also sold 99% of what we ever owned, sold our home, left our jobs and closed accounts, got visas, pet passports, car permit info, and on and on. It took us over a year to get out of our lives. It was sooooo worth it. Mexico is beautiful and complicated and colorful. There was no way to prepare for every eventuality. Yes topes are insane! Paying a bill for electricity can be maddening. WiFi can be abysmal. I couldn’t drive, my husband did almost all the driving because my nerves couldn’t hang. But on the whole we are so blessed for this experience. Thank you both for constantly highlighting the joy and beauty and challenges and benefits of living in Mexico.

My first Mexico trip was to CDMX. Luckily I had a friend who used to live in there and he really helped me to see past the media before my trip.
However, before my first trip to CD Juarez I was legit nervous. Even though I was with my boyfriend who lives there!! He assured me that I would be fine but in my head I kept thinking about things I saw on Google. I'm such a nut! It was nothing like that! I've been there 5 times so far and I love it. The people I've met are friendly and it's just a normal big city. I used to go to Oakland frequently here in California but there were areas I would avoid due to violence. I see no difference between that and Juarez. I say all this respectfully because I know there are real issues and real violence and extortion in Juarez and I'm not making light of that. But for the most part, people are living life and they enjoy their city and it's not entirely like what the media says. 💃❤

@maniac9565 I believe the problem is the rate at which it happens genius you know Mexico has a very high death rate in comparison to the general pop that lives there meaning a very high crime rate. More than many other places. I mean it's easy to say corrupt Mexico isn't as bad as one has heard when you haven't ran into the actual cartels I'd say you are in a 60% chance of running into trouble and even higher rate if you are in a red no travel zone.

    • @incogspectator3042
      @incogspectator3042 4 ปีที่แล้ว

@maniac9565 I appreciate the confidence you had in your first sentence allow me to deflate your perception of what you think you know. The "ones" you are referring to usually know more than the clown lowballing the situation. Perhaps the "ones" who dont know have close friends who became entangled with the cartels. Perhaps that close friend of the person who doesn't know much had an uncle who was being hunted by the cartels and they were going after his/her whole family to get to the uncle. Perhaps the cartels came to the US and entered a high school just to make this happen. Perhaps the FBI was involved. I don't know the "ones" who usually know nothing sometimes might know something more than the ignorant person claiming things based off of nothing. Considering you....probably haven't seen the cartels a day in your life I'm gonna assume that the "ones" you're referring to would be yourself.

I’m a Swede living in Guatemala since 2010. I have tried several shipping services and have found that ICC Logistic is the best one yet.
I buy a lot of stuff on eBay and occasionally at Amazon. Shipping address is in Miami, FL and ICC takes care of the shipping from FL to GUA City.
I get notifications when the stuff has arrived in MIA, when it’s on its way to GUA, and when it’s ready to pick up at the local ICC office.
That said, as a proactive measure, I pre-notify ICC on their website there’s a package on its way.
ICC service is good. If you have them where you live I suggest you give them a try.

I recently traveled to Mexico for the first time and from my boss to my Dr. It was a OMG your going to Mexico! Making you feel like you weren’t coming back cause something horrible was going to happen to you. PlayaDC was beautiful, the people the most hard working, friendly. No one got sick from the delicious food, left the resort and guess what... your just another person walking around.... no one cares. It’s the media and people’s misconceptions. I’m mathematically challenged so learning the pesos and paying was difficult 😩.

I just found this channel and I enjoy watching it. Thank you for the great content. Safe travels to both of you.
I feel that anywhere you go, there are dangers. I live in the US and was born in El Salvador. I travel to El Salvador and I’ve also traveled to Mexico. Sometimes because you don’t experience something bad on one or 2 vacations or one year traveling in another country, doesn’t mean the dangers aren’t there. There are bad people in all countries and tourists can easily be taken advantage of. Just like in the US, you have to keep your eyes open. I don’t mean to scare anyone, but just trying to remind everyone that you do have to be cautious when you travel. Myself being born in El Salvador and having great friends from Mexico, we all know that our countries are beautiful, but we also know that we can’t let our guard down.

I read on some comments on the subject of having two license plates to photocopy and laminate your other plate. (That wasn't on your channel, was it?) Of course, you'd then need to attach it to some sturdy material before mounting. Would work unless it's illegal; not trying to get anyone in trouble with the law, here!! 😄
My own upcoming journey there took a couple important steps yesterday. Thanks for assuring me of the fact that every step involved does take more time and effort than you allowed -- although I must say, I've had several things just fall into my lap to where I think it *is meant* for me to retire there.
Honestly, one of the worst challenges to overcome is learning how to take the looks and negative comments from those with whom I do share my plans, with the grain of salt they require. Because, if you inquire as to whether they speak from experience, you may get, "Of course not!" as a reply, since to some, as you mention, once crossing the border, one dies. 😅
My own previous experience: As a 22-year-old, an ex-Vietnam vet with whom I traveled (we were traveling buddies only; no "benefits" LOL ) drove us to Pie de la Cuesta (outside Acapulco.) This was 1972. I lived in my very own thatched hut. It was $8/USD for the whole month! I slept on a cot and had to take a bucket of water (either from the ocean or the lagoon, depending on which side of the road I was on) to rinse the clay toilet in the hut, after myself. I was awakened most mornings by a local pig, strolling in the hut to see if perhaps there was a spare banana peel or such for its breakfast.
Once, I needed my Mother to mail something to me there, and asked Marquena, the proprietor, the mailing address. She said it was [the name of the place, since razed and replaced, no doubt] followed by "establecimiento conocido, Pie de la Cuesta, Guerrero, Mexico," which meant (as you two know) that the Postman *knows* where it is. 😎
So -- any accommodations besting that scenario will be a wild improvement over my first foray into Mexico (which I have missed ever since I left, so long ago.)
    Viva Mexico!
Thanks especially for this particular video, which really speaks to me.

My husband & I love watching your videos. We live in Hawaii but i'm originally from Dallas, TX and used to go a least 1 or twice a year to resort towns as well as some small towns across the border from San Antonio, and we also traveled to a friends house in Cedral. I completely fell in love with it, the food, the people, the music (even had a mariachi band at our wedding). We recently started going to a country concert in Jan. in the Riviera Maya, last year Playa Del Carmen and this year Cancun. We will go a few days before and stay at Isla Mujeres, and after planning to go to MX City which i have never been to except the airport. We are so excited, but today saw the news about the outrageous cartel fight in Culican. This is very troublesome, and so sad the cartels are above the law.

We are soooo proud of you guys; facing so many fears and yet DOING IT !!! There are so many people we know, especially in our families that are afraid to travel outside of the US. Unfortunately, they believe that the US is the BEST and only place to live in the world. We have been living in Ecuador for 6 years now and LOVE it. We also sold everything , including both houses we had and our 2 cars. The taxis are so inexpensive, it just didn’t make sense to move our cars here and pay for a resident’s license, insurance for our car, etc. plus, we are helping our local community by taking taxis (many have become family to us). The healthcare is THE BEST we have ever experienced! AND THE TOTAL COST OF LIVING
