I have been a fabricator for over 30 years and yes I hurt my back and had a hernia from handling 5/8 by 6 flat bar steel while walking.. deadlifting weight versus walking with weight is a big difference. Some people it goes right into their jewels I was lucky and it was off on the side
These days I have limited hours due to popped wrist and finger tendons and carpal tunnel, all work-related.. I ignore it the best I can and keep on going...

Sending healing thoughts to Charlie. So glad you bought him a truck. FYI. Bugs have their batteries in a totally stupid place. You must ensure you use a robust battery cover. As a kid my family had a bug. After a long drive, our bug caught fire from the battery sparking on the underside of the rear seat. Guess who was sitting above the battery.
That truck will be a cool build anyway. One of the things I like about your channel is that you do practical builds. So an awesome work truck is something I would watch for sure.
One thing I hate is when bad things happen to good people. And Charlie definitely qualifies as good people. Hope he has a complete and speedy recovery! And awfully nice of you to buy him that truck as well. Nice to see such a tight-knit group as yours that helps each other all the time.

I was a mechanic for 50 plus years, 5 back surgeries, 8 shoulder surgeries(need shoulder replacements now) and 2 hernias not to mention all the cuts and smashed body parts. A lot of the interior parts are still available new from Ford, and they are relatively cheap. For example, the whole door card is only about $170, arm rest $30
I've been driving an 06-6.0L fleet truck that has been extremely reliable, with none of the dreaded 6.0 issues. My only advice is that the oil must be changed more frequently than the intervals stated in the original manual.

Sarah, if you want to try a Hail Mary on the seat cover for Charlie's truck. Try dyeing the seat cover a color close to what you want. You would have to do both seats, but it's cheaper than seat covers, and if it doesn't work, then you can get seat covers. I would try it, good luck.
This is awesome and congrats to Charlie for having such a great friend! A great project for sure. This kinda makes me want to keep my 04 F150 with 400K on it and still runs great really no rust for an east coast truck with he original engine. I will be watching closely 😀

i would incorporate a downrigger on the rear corner of the truck where the crane is mounted. i worked out of a virtually identical truck in the oilfield and with the weight of the crane added if you try to pick anything heavy or if you have the boom extended it'll really pull in a rather unnatural manner on that corner of the frame. just a simple trailer jack will make a big difference.

Also the turbos are known to sieze the variable geometry ring and cause massive overboost blowing the headgaskets and intercooler hoses.
